    Get PDF
In line with its mandate of poverty reduction and sustainable development, the WorldFish Center is orienting its research towards high impact scientific activity. Identifying such activities is the task of prospective impact assessment, in turn based on impact pathway analysis. The paper describes a framework for analyzing benefits from aquatic resources research, the relevant research categories, pathways to impact by category, and indicators along each pathway that can be estimated in order to quantify probable research impact

Seed morphology of Iberian Species of the genus Aconitum L.

    Get PDF
New records of some vascular plants collected in the Alt Emporda are given. Most of them are new for the floristic catalogue of MALAGARRIGA (1976). Two new combinations are proposed: Atriplex tataricus L. subsp. tornabenii (Tin.) Blanche, Molero & Rovira and Centaurea microptilon Gren. & Godron var. emporitana (Vayr. ex Hayek) Blanche, Molero & Rovira

The areas of distribution of 24 species of Mediterranean-stepic character (included in this term are Ibero-Mogrebine, Irano-Turanian, Saharo-Sindian species, as well as species endemic to arid peninsular zones), are delimited, of which the nordeast boundary in the Iberian Peninsula is placed in the Catalonian Region. In the elaboration of these areas, unpublished data collected by the authors has been used, as well as data gleaned from bibliographic references and herbarium material

[eng] The recent discovery in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula (southern and central Catalonia) of three populations belonging to the Euphorbia esula E. virgata complex (Euphorbiaceae) prompted us to conduct a macro- and micromorphological study to ascertain their taxonomic identity. Only two previous records of plants from this complex existed in the area and these were gathered in 1908/1909 (previously identified as E. esula subsp. saratoi ) and in 1930 ( E. esula s. l .). Our results indicate that all the material examined (both recent and old samples) can be attributed to E. virgata , a taxon whose main distribution area lies in eastern Europe, and whose southwestern distribution limit lies in northeastern Iberian Peninsula. The macromorphological characteristics vary somewhat between populations and some individual plants bear a strong resemblance to forms that are usually referred to E. × pseudovirgata , a supposed hybrid of E. virgata and E. esula . It is not possible, however, to confirm the presence of this hybrid in the region without further studies. After this study, E. esula subsp. esula should be excluded from Catalonia, Valencia and Aragon. The present-day populations we attribute to E. virgata are highly localized but dense. They are found in herbaceous habitats with clear anthropic influence (abandoned fields and the edges of roads and tracks), on deep, fairly dry soils. These habitats are similar to those typical of E. virgata in eastern and central Europe. It is likely that the populations are temporal and indeed in two of the three recent localities it has been confirmed that they date from after 2005. Current data suggest that this is a non-indigenous species, but in view of the fact that it was detected a century ago, the possibility that it is a rare indigenous species with itinerant populations cannot be ruled out

A conspect of chromosome numbers in tribe Delphinieae (Ranunculaceae)

    Get PDF
A literature survey of chromosome number counts was made for the tribe Delphinieae, which includes the genera Aconitum, Delphinium, Consolida, and Aconitella. 1097 reports are presented corresponding to 327 species, representing about 40 % of the total species number of the tribe. The basic number is universally x = 8 and ploidy levels found are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, and 8x. Some disploidy cases have been described, although this phenomenon is very rare within the tribe. Poliploidy is more frequent in perennial taxa (Aconitum and Delphinium) whereas in annuals disploidy takes more importance. In 13 species more than one different chromosome number has been reported and 54 species showed different ploidy levels. Our objective was to provide a complete information on chromosome numbers of Delphinieae species and to point out gaps that need to be addressed.PB91-268 and AMB97-375 from DGICYT (Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, Spain
