Synchrotron aging and the radio spectrum of SN 1993J
We combine the GMRT low frequency radio observations of SN 1993J with the VLA
high frequency radio data to get a near simultaneous spectrum around day 3200
since explosion. The low frequency measurements of the supernova determine the
turnover frequency and flux scale of the composite spectrum and help reveal a
steepening in the spectral index, , in the optically
thin part of the spectrum. This is the first observational evidence of a break
in the radio spectrum of a young supernova. We associate this break with the
phenomenon of synchrotron aging of radiating electrons. From the break in the
spectrum we calculate the magnetic field in the shocked region independent of
the equipartition assumption between energy density of relativistic particles
and magnetic energy density. We determine the ratio of these two energy
densities and find that this ratio is in the range: . We also predict the nature of the evolution of the synchrotron break
frequency with time, with competing effects due to diffusive Fermi acceleration

The late time radio emission from SN 1993J at meter wavelengths
We present the investigations of SN 1993J using low frequency observations
with the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope. We analyze the light curves of SN
1993J at 1420, 610, 325 and 243 MHz during years since explosion.The
supernova has become optically thin early on in the 1420 MHz and 610 MHz bands
while it has only recently entered the optically thin phase in the 325 MHz
band. The radio light curve in the 235 MHz band is more or less flat. This
indicates that the supernova is undergoing a transition from an optically thick
to optically thin limit in this frequency band. In addition, we analyze the SN
radio spectra at five epochs on day 3000, 3200, 3266, 3460 and 3730 since
explosion. Day 3200 spectrum shows a synchrotron cooling break. SN 1993J is the
only young supernova for which the magnetic field and the size of the radio
emitting region are determined through unrelated methods. Thus the mechanism
that controls the evolution of the radio spectra can be identified. We suggest
that at all epochs, the synchrotron self absorption mechanism is primarily
responsible for the turn-over in the spectra. Light curve models based on free
free absorption in homogeneous or inhomogeneous media at high frequencies
overpredict the flux densities at low frequencies. The discrepancy is
increasingly larger at lower and lower frequencies. We suggest that an extra
opacity, sensitively dependent on frequency, is likely to account for the
difference at lower frequencies. The evolution of the magnetic field

A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial to Study the Impact of a Nutrition-Sensitive Intervention on Adult Women With Cancer Cachexia Undergoing Palliative Care in India
Purpose. Advanced cancer patients with disease progression develop cachexia. Nevertheless, cancer patients at nutritional risk have shown improved body weight and quality of life with oral nutritional supplements. Method. This was a randomized controlled trial in adult female cancer patients (n = 63) attending palliative clinics, with symptoms of cachexia. Eligible patients were randomly distributed into control (n = 33) and intervention (n = 30) groups. Both groups were provided with nutritional and physical activity counseling, but the intervention group received an additional 100 g of Improved Atta (IAtta) for 6 months daily consumption. This study was designed to assess the efficacy of IAtta (with counseling) in enhancing the health status of cachexic patients. Anthropometric measurements, dietary intake, physical activity level and quality of life parameters were assessed at baseline, after 3 months, and at the end of 6 months. Results. Patients in the control group (n = 15) had significantly decreased body weight (P = .003), mid–upper-arm circumference (P = .002), and body fat (P = .002) by the end of intervention. A trend of body weight gain in the intervention group (n = 17; P = .08) and significant increase of body fat (P = .002) was observed; moreover, patients reported a significant improvement in fatigue (P = .002) and appetite scores (P = .006) under quality-of-life domains at the end of intervention. Conclusions. Embedding a nutrition-sensitive intervention ( IAtta ) within Indian palliative care therapy may improve quality of life and stabilize body weight in cancer cachexia patients
Recurrence Risk Stratification for Women with FIGO Stage I Uterine Endometrioid Carcinoma Who Underwent Surgical Lymph Node Evaluation
Purpose/Objective(s): To estimate the recurrence risk based on the number of prognostic factors in women with FIGO stage I uterine endometrioid carcinoma (EC) in a large cohort of patients who underwent surgical staging including surgical lymph node evaluation (SLNE) and were managed with no adjuvant therapy.
Materials/Methods: We queried our in-house prospectively maintained uterine cancer database for patients with FIGO stage I EC underwent surgical staging including SLNE between 1/1990-12/2020. Patients with synchronous ovarian and breast cancer diagnosis were excluded as well as those who received adjuvant therapy of any form. Patient\u27s demographics and pathologic variables were analyzed. We used multivariate analysis (MVA) with Stepwise Model Selection to determine risk factors for 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS). Study population was then stratified based on the number of risk factors identified (0, 1 or 2). The resultant groups were compared for RFS, disease-specific survival (DSS) and overall survival (OS) using log-rank test and Kaplan-Meier curves. Additionally, independent predictors of DSS and overall OS were estimated.
Results: 706 patients were identified who met our inclusion criteria with a median age of 60 years (range, 30-93) and a median follow-up of 120 months. All patients had at least pelvic SLNE with a median number of examined lymph node (LN) of 8 (range, 1-66): 66 patients (11%) had a sentinel LN sampling and 43% had paraaortic SLNE. 639 patients (91%) were stage IA and lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) was detected in 6% (n=41). Recurrence was diagnosed in 44 patients (6%). Independent predictors of 5-year RFS include age ≥ 60 years (p=0.038), grade 2 vs. 1 (p=0.003), and grade 3 vs 1 (p\u3c0.001). 5-year RFS for group-0 (age \u3c 60 years and grade 1) was 98% vs. 92% for group-1 (either: age ≥ 60 years or grade 2/3) vs 84% for group-2 (both: age ≥ 60 years and grade 2/3), respectively (p\u3c0.001). 5- year DSS for the three groups was (100% vs 98% vs 95%, p=0.012) and 5-year OS was (98% vs 90% vs 81%, p\u3c0.001), respectively. On MVA, stage IB vs IA was deterministic for DSS (p=0.02); whereas age ≥ 60 years (p\u3c0.001) and grade 3 vs grade 1 (p=0.004) were predictors for worse OS.
Conclusion: In patients with stage I endometrioid carcinoma who had surgical staging including SLNE and no adjuvant therapy, only age ≥ 60 years and high tumor grade were independent predictors of cancer recurrence and hence can be used to quantify individualized recurrence risk. Surprisingly, LVSI was not an independent prognostic factor in this study cohort with SLNE
A nano-biosensor for DNA sequence detection using absorption spectra of SWNT-DNA composite
biosensor based on Single Walled Carbon Nanotube (SWNT)-Poly (GT)n ssDNA hybrid has been developed for medical diagnostics. The absorption spectrum of this assay is determined with the help of a Shimadzu UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. Two
distinct bands each containing three peaks corresponding to first and second van Hove singularities in the density of states of the nanotubes were observed in the absorption spectrum. When a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) having a sequence
complementary to probic DNA is added to the ssDNA-SWNT conjugates, hybridization takes place, which causes the red shift of absorption spectrum of nanotubes. On the
other hand, when the DNA is noncomplementary, no shift in the absorption spectrum occurs since hybridization between the DNA and probe does not take place. The red shifting of the spectrum is considered to be due to change in the dielectric
environment around nanotubes.
