    Healthiness from Duality

    Get PDF
Healthiness is a good old question in program logics that dates back to Dijkstra. It asks for an intrinsic characterization of those predicate transformers which arise as the (backward) interpretation of a certain class of programs. There are several results known for healthiness conditions: for deterministic programs, nondeterministic ones, probabilistic ones, etc. Building upon our previous works on so-called state-and-effect triangles, we contribute a unified categorical framework for investigating healthiness conditions. We find the framework to be centered around a dual adjunction induced by a dualizing object, together with our notion of relative Eilenberg-Moore algebra playing fundamental roles too. The latter notion seems interesting in its own right in the context of monads, Lawvere theories and enriched categories.Comment: 13 pages, Extended version with appendices of a paper accepted to LICS 201

Coherent spin dynamics of electrons and holes in semiconductor quantum wells and quantum dots under periodical optical excitation: resonant spin amplification versus spin mode-locking

The coherent spin dynamics of resident carriers, electrons and holes, in semiconductor quantum structures is studied by periodical optical excitation using short laser pulses and in an external magnetic field. The generation and dephasing of spin polarization in an ensemble of carrier spins, for which the relaxation time of individual spins exceeds the repetition period of the laser pulses, are analyzed theoretically. Spin polarization accumulation is manifested either as resonant spin amplification or as mode-locking of carrier spin coherences. It is shown that both regimes have the same origin, while their appearance is determined by the optical pump power and the spread of spin precession frequencies in the ensemble

In Vitro Cytotoxicity of CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots and Their Interaction with Biological Systems

Semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots, QDs) have a wide range of potential application in multiplexed tissue and cell imaging, and for in vivo molecular diagnostics and therapy. Therefore studying of the toxicity of QDs and their influence on various cellular processes in vitro is necessary to understand their interaction with living systems.; The paper presents the results of studies on the evaluation of CdSe/ZnS QD cytotoxicity, as well as the results of studying their interaction with freshly prepared human monocytes in vitro. Keywords: Quantum dots, semiconductor nanocrystals, cytotoxicity, in vitro models, monocytes

Integrative Approach in Teaching English for Professional Purposes

The article discusses the need for an integrative approach in teaching Business English, aimed at forming and developing professional competencies of a future graduate in the field of management. The applied aspect of the integrative approach means implementing the principle of integration in all parts of the educational process. In this study, it concerns the formation of professional competencies during the process of learning a foreign language. The basis of the successful implementation of an integrative approach at all levels is adding a reflective component, forming of reflective position of a student. It helps analyze and order all the elements and stages of the studying activity from goal setting to result achieving; it also helps students realize themselves as active participants of the studying process. Today, due to various factors and reasons, the potential of the discipline “Business Foreign Language” in forming professional competencies often remains unrealized. The course developed allows to fully reveal its opportunities of forming professional competencies for a future manager. The course is focused on developing skills in a foreign language and professional training of students in such field of study as “Management”. This contributes to the students’ personal and professional growth. This is achieved due to the course’s content and structure, when the general concept of management and its functions being considered sequentially and logically. Including the reflective component into the studying process allows not only the teacher but also the students themselves follow the level of progress and the degree of achieving the goals set by them

© Author(s).In the article, the problem of correspondence of educational standards of higher pedagogical education and teacher professional standards in Russia is actualized. Modern understanding of the quality of vocational education suggests that in the process of education the student develops a set of competencies that will enable him or her to carry out successfully professional activities. As a part of the study of correspondence of educational and professional standards through questionnaires, the representation of employers (heads of educational institutions) about the preparedness of young teachers to the professional activity was studied. The paper presents the analysis of the results of empirical research conducted in two regions of Russia, the problem areas of teacher training are identified, which include deficits in the subject training, in skills of building interaction with the participants in the educational process, deficiencies in required professional motivation and general culture, in communication and IT skills, social infantilism

Why cannot people cope with stress?

One of the actual issues today is how different people with varying degrees of success cope with stressful situations. Some of them are able to adapt to changes in life, while others come down with neuroses. In order to answer the question we have had a research of peculiarities of stress handling by people suffering from neurotic disorders. To achieve the objectives of the study we used the following methods: test of anticipation consistency by V. D. Mendelevich, "Life Style Index" questionnaire by R. Plutchik, questionnaire of coping means by R. Lazarus, methodology for study of coping behavior by E. Heim. As a result we have learnt that people suffering from neuroses often use unconscious protective mechanisms of psyche to overcome stressful situations (p≤0.05; p≤0.01; p≤0.001), some often feel confusion (p≤0.05) and less visualize the future optimistically (p≤0.001). Also people suffering from neuroses worse predict future difficulties (p≤0.05) and less use conscious ways of coping with stress, such as defending their interests (p≤.01), taking responsibility for what is happening (p≤.05), looking at the situation from the outside (p≤.001), controlling emotions (p≤.001), planning the solution of problems (p≤.01), finding the positive side in a situation (p≤.01)

Search and substantiation of new form productivity for student non-formal education, which make it possible to compensate for the deficit of purposeful preparation for social interaction in the traditional (formal) system of higher education. Methodology: system-dialectical approach, which allows to overcome the existing fragmentation and the fragmentation of research results concerning the experience of student social interaction; the methods of scientific analysis of sources; pedagogical experience study; comparative analysis; classification; content analysis; mathematical processing of statistical data. Results: they substantiate the relevance of addressing social education of students in youth non-profit organizations, as one of the forms of non-formal education. The individual and group experience of social interaction and its promising lines of enrichment (subjectivity, reflexivity, co-existence) are proposed as a system-organized educational result. The content of education is determined based on the characteristics of social practices implemented in non-profit organizations. The results of the comparative study of the applied forms and methods of youth training in existing youth non-profit organizations in Russia and abroad (the Association of Trainers of the Russian Union of Youth, the All-Russian School of Personal Growth and Development of Student Self-Government "Progress", "The College of Trainers by T. Hoist" (Germany), "Freechild Institute" (USA). The methods of social training of their participants most widespread in non-profit organizations, the features and results of their application are determined. The conclusions are made about the relevance and prospects of student youth preparation optimization for active social interaction in non-formal education within the context of non-profit organizations based on the methodology of the system-dialectical approach to the enrichment of individual and group experience of social interaction
