    Get PDF
An order picking activities refers to an act of retrieving any items from the storage locations in the warehouses. In common situation, these activities is often performed by human. Due to that condition, high human error and high cost impact were spotted on a manual order picking activities. Thus, previous studies have developed various methods to support the practitioners especially in creating a more efficient order picking process. In spite of the vast discussion and evidence that shows an order pickers tend to deviate from its optimal routes and putting the efficiency of these routing approaches at stake, very little discussion were focus on the implementation of smart application through IT usage and device to reduce the problem faced in the warehouse. Thus, it is the main intention of this this paper to presents a detailed analysis on the relative factors affecting the efficiency of order picking activities in the warehouse and suggest the smart trolley as a solution to overcome the problem. The smart trolley apps is then proposed to increase the picking process in warehouse. The results of this paper indicate that extensive use of smart trolley apps as a solution to a more effective ways of order picking

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a simple metaheuristic method to implement with robust performance. PSO is regarded as one of the numerous researchers' most well-studied algorithms. However, two of its most fundamental problems remain unresolved. PSO converges onto the local optimum for high-dimensional optimization problems, and it has slow convergence speeds. This paper introduces a new variant of a particle swarm optimization algorithm utilizing Lรฉvy flight-McCulloch, and fast simulated annealing (PSOLFS). The proposed algorithm uses two strategies to address high-dimensional problems: hybrid PSO to define the global search area and fast simulated annealing to refine the visited search region. In this paper, PSOLFS is designed based on a balance between exploration and exploitation. We evaluated the algorithm on 16 benchmark functions for 500 and 1,000 dimension experiments. On 500 dimensions, the algorithm obtains the optimal value on 14 out of 16 functions. On 1,000 dimensions, the algorithm obtains the optimal value on eight benchmark functions and is close to optimal on four others. We also compared PSOLFS with another five PSO variants regarding convergence accuracy and speed. The results demonstrated higher accuracy and faster convergence speed than other PSO variants. Moreover, the results of the Wilcoxon test show a significant difference between PSOLFS and the other PSO variants. Our experiments' findings show that the proposed method enhances the standard PSO by avoiding the local optimum and improving the convergence speed

Pedestrian bridges are one of the safest crossing facilities, allowing pedestrians to cross the road by diverting away from traffic. However, the usage of pedestrian bridges has not been popular in Malaysia. Dreadful conditions of pedestrian bridges further contribute to the low usage. The main aim of this research is to develop a conceptual model to identify the motivating factors affecting the usage of pedestrian bridges among urban commuters in Kuala Lumpur. Four factors were identified from an extensive review of literature to construct the model namely safety, attitude, facilities and convenience. This study serves valuable information for scholar to further study and analyse topic relating to the use of pedestrian bridges. From the practitionerโ€™s point of view, this study provides valuable information to policy makers and government authorities to integrate and focus on the most motivating factors that could attract more users into utilising pedestrian bridges

Biometrics is a widely studied topic for security applications or identity identification. This project had focused on primarily on studying a small region around the eye known as the periocular region as a supplementary biometric. This is the region that includes eyelids, lashes and eyebrows. A few previous studies had proven that periocular biometrics has applied as an independent recognition system under unconstrained scenarios. The biometric data for this region can be easily obtained with existing setups used face and iris recognition. In this project, the data and information was gathered mainly through two methods which were the observation and review on other documentations related to the system. The qualitative research was performed through observation and surveys related to the system. The samples was obtained in a way that the cooperation from the subject or participant was informal while interaction with the biometric system was facilitated. the prototype generated alternative way to allow access to the system using the periocular biometric

The refuse management in Malaysia had experienced high degradation, and this had caused a massive loss of ecosystem services due to significant pollution. Added with low community engagement to clean the environment, a lot of refuse management system being developed through apps is left unattended by them. One of the significant drawbacks of today refuses management system are still lacking in terms of the identity protocol for identifying individual especially those who have signed up for the app's usage. Apart from that, leakage of user identity has become a critical issue affecting usersโ€™ certain level to use the app as main tools under a refuse management system. As a result, most of the service providers need to build and maintain their own databases of user information for all kind of system they developed. Therefore, the objective of the study is to identify major security issue and inadequacy of the current blockchain mechanism in the refuse management system and to explore why blockchain mechanism should be used as a mechanism for higher authentication security in refuse management system. Thus, this project will demonstrate the potential of why blockchain should be used as a mechanism for in cleaning up the environment. The ultimate outcome looks at the potential blockchain application in refuse management system for the utilizing of the surrounding committee to clean the environment

    Get PDF
High-rise residential buildings, such as apartments, flats, and condominiums, are places of shelter for humans, just like any other types of houses. In a high-rise residential block, the building management plays a vital role in keeping the place pristine and habitable for its residents. Research shows that effective communication and harmonious relationship between the building management and the residents are crucial in maintaining a high-rise residential building. A solution needs to be proposed to alleviate this challenge. Traditionally, the mode of information dissemination and communication between the residents and the building management is done manually using information boards and feedback forms. However, their effectiveness, reliability and reach-ability are questionable. With the increasing adoption of mobile devices and cloud computing in todayโ€™s scenario, the application of mobile technologies such as mobile applications has become viable as a solution to many real-world problems. This research studies how information about the happenings around the high-rise residential area is conveyed to the residents that is deemed as an essential part of the communication between the building management and the residents. This study aims to improve overall communication efficiency between the residents and the management parties of high-rise residential buildings by introducing a mobile app for apartment residents. Two data collection methods โ€“ observation and questionnaire โ€“ were used in this study and inspections were carried out in this research. Representations were made to investigate how the residents of a high-rise building receive information about happenings around the apartment complex and how the building management and residents committee communicate to share the information. The questionnaire survey was distributed to Facebook groups of high-rise residential buildings, particularly those staying in Sri Bahagia Court and Angkasa Condominium, as well as UCSI University network. Based on the results collected from participants, most of the communication was through physical noticeboard or online social media platforms such as Facebook. Hence, this research investigates the requirement of a mobile app and proposes the development of a mobile app for apartment residents (MyAPT), which addresses the problems of information sharing and further improves communication among the residents and management of high-rise buildings

Nowadays, biometric authentication is more important than a password or token-based authentication. There have been many techniques suggested for biometric authentication algorithms, however, it can be observed that the Deep Learning approach is significantly more effective and secure than other methods, specifically Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) with AlexNet architecture for face recognition. However, an optimization technique is crucial in the Deep Learning models. Therefore, this paper will analyze the best optimizers for AlexNet architecture which are SGD, AdaGrad, RMSProp, AdaDelta, Adam, and AdaMax by using the proposed face dataset includes 7 celebrity classes, each with 35 images obtained from Google Images. To enhance the size of the dataset, data augmentation was employed before it was fed into the AlexNet model. The experiment shows AdaMax performs well when compared to the other optimizers on the proposed dataset
