    Translating programming languages for intermediate codes

    Many of the important data structures used in a compiler are intermediate representations of the program being compiled. Often these representations take the form of trees, with several node types, each of which has different attributes. Tree representations can be described with grammars, just like programming languages. For each grammar rule, there is one constructor that belongs to the class for its left-hand-side symbol. I simply extend the abstract class with a concrete class for each grammar rule.     Distribution of the Object Oriented Databases. A Viewpoint of the MVDB Model's Methodology and Architecture

    In databases, much work has been done towards extending models with advanced tools such as view technology, schema evolution support, multiple classification, role modeling and viewpoints. Over the past years, most of the research dealing with the object multiple representation and evolution has proposed to enrich the monolithic vision of the classical object approach in which an object belongs to one hierarchy class. In particular, the integration of the viewpoint mechanism to the conventional object-oriented data model gives it flexibility and allows one to improve the modeling power of objects. The viewpoint paradigm refers to the multiple descriptions, the distribution, and the evolution of object. Also, it can be an undeniable contribution for a distributed design of complex databases. The motivation of this paper is to define an object data model integrating viewpoints in databases and to present a federated database architecture integrating multiple viewpoint sources following a local-as-extended-view data integration approach.object-oriented data model, OQL language, LAEV data integration approach, MVDB model, federated databases, Local-As-View Strategy.

    Observation of Anomalous Internal Pair Creation in 8^8Be: A Possible Signature of a Light, Neutral Boson

    Electron-positron angular correlations were measured for the isovector magnetic dipole 17.6 MeV state (Jπ=1+J^\pi=1^+, T=1T=1) →\rightarrow ground state (Jπ=0+J^\pi=0^+, T=0T=0) and the isoscalar magnetic dipole 18.15 MeV (Jπ=1+J^\pi=1^+, T=0T=0) state →\rightarrow ground state transitions in 8^{8}Be. Significant deviation from the internal pair creation was observed at large angles in the angular correlation for the isoscalar transition with a confidence level of >5σ> 5\sigma. This observation might indicate that, in an intermediate step, a neutral isoscalar particle with a mass of 16.70±0.35\pm0.35 (stat)±0.5\pm 0.5 (sys) MeV/c2/c^2 and Jπ=1+J^\pi = 1^+ was created.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    Synthesis, physico-chemical characterization and bacteriostatic study of Pt complexes with substituted amine ligands

    Three complexes of general formula PtCl2R2 were synthesized, where R is the amine ligand with aromatic substituents. Coordination compounds [Pt(an)2Cl2] (1), [Pt(pa)2Cl2] (2) and [Pt(aph)2Cl2] (3), where an = 2-aminonaphthalene, pa = 2-aminopyrimidine, aph = 4-anilinophenol, were characterized by on-line coupled TG/DTA-MS, powder XRD and spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, ESI–MS and NMR), and tested against selected Gram(+) and Gram(–) bacteria. The thermal data show that all three compounds contain lattice or absorbed water, and the stability of the anhydrous compounds in nitrogen decreases in the order 2 > 1 > 3. Above 200 °C, the complexes loose characteristic fragments of their ligands. The spectroscopic data are in accordance with the thermal properties of the samples and prove their composition. The compounds are more effective inhibitors of Gram(+) than Gram(−) bacteria. © 2016 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungar

    Site specific radon regimes of a cave system

    The spatial and temporal variation of air-borne 222Rn concentration was continuously measured during 1990-94 with monthly changed etched track detectors in the Pál-völgy and Mátyás-hegy caves, Budapest, Hungary in order to identify site-specific behaviour of radon variations. We found winter minimum and summer maximum levels at each measuring site. In the Pál-völgy cave these end values increased with the distance from the entrance. The maximum-to-minimum ratio, however, showed a broad peak between the entrance and deep cave region. This behaviour can be attributed to the seasonal and depth dependence pattern of the advective dilution effect caused by intrusion of outside radon free air. Far from the entrance radon concentration goes to a saturation value, which approaches the level found in a highly unventilated remote cavity of the cave. In the Mátyás-hegy cave the maximum-to-minimum ratios were small and nearly constant, indicating that the measuring sites belong to deeper parts of the system. The higher maximum values, on the other hand, are attributed to smaller passage sizes of this part. High similarity was found in the temporal variation of radon concentration in the neighbouring parts of the two caves, which reinforced the assumed but by man unpenetrable connection between them

    Characterization and Performance of PADME's Cherenkov-Based Small-Angle Calorimeter

    The PADME experiment, at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF), in Italy, will search for invisible decays of the hypothetical dark photon via the process e+e−→γA′e^+e^-\rightarrow \gamma A', where the A′A' escapes detection. The dark photon mass range sensitivity in a first phase will be 1 to 24 MeV. We report here on measurement and simulation studies of the performance of the Small-Angle Calorimeter, a component of PADME's detector dedicated to rejecting 2- and 3-gamma backgrounds. The crucial requirement is a timing resolution of less than 200 ps, which is satisfied by the choice of PbF2_2 crystals and the newly released Hamamatsu R13478UV photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). We find a timing resolution of 81 ps (with double-peak separation resolution of 1.8 ns) and a single-crystal energy resolution of 5.7%/E\sqrt{E} with light yield of 2.07 photo-electrons per MeV, using 100 to 400 MeV electrons at the Beam Test Facility of LNF. We also propose the investigation of a two-PMT solution coupled to a single PbF2_2 crystal for higher-energy applications, which has potentially attractive features.Comment: 12 pages, 19 figures. v2: added section on radiation damage studie

    Human-human, human-machine communication: on the HuComTech multimodal corpus

    The present paper describes HuComTech, a multimodal corpus featuring over 50 hours of video taped interviews with 112 informants. The interviews were carried out in a lab equipped with multiple cameras and microphones able to record posture, hand gestures, facial expressions, gaze etc. as well as the acoustic and linguistic features of what was said. As a result of large-scale manual and semi-automatic annotation, the HuComTech corpus offers a rich dataset on 47 annotation levels. The paper presents the objectives, the workflow, the annotation work, focusing on two aspects in particular i.e. time alignment made with the Leipzig tool WEBMaus and the automatic detection of intonation contours developed by the HuComTech team. Early exploitation of the corpus included analysis of hidden patterns with the use of sophisticated multivariat analysis of temporal relations within the data points.
