The Potential of Beauveria against Root Mealybugs Formiccoccus sp. (Homoptera: Pseudococidae) Black Pepper in Dak Lak Province of Vietnam

    Get PDF
Root mealybugs Formicoccus sp.(Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) currently emerge as an economically important soil-borne insect pest in the production of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) in Dak Lak province of Vietnam. Entomopathogenic fungi can be used in agricultural production as feasible safe biocontrol agents and plant growth promoters. This study aimed to isolate, select and identify the local Beauveria sp. strains from the black pepper fields, as well as evaluate the effects of the selected strains on the growth of black pepper. The results showed that the frequency of positive Beauveria sp. soil samples collected from organic black pepper fields was significantly higher than that from conventional black pepper fields. Twenty-one Beauveria sp. strains in black pepper organic fields and four Beauveria sp. strains in black pepper conventional fields were successfully isolated, among them, the Beauveria bassiana BB1 was examined and evaluated for its biocontrol potential against Formicoccus sp. and its ability to promote the growth of black pepper seedlings. In the laboratory experiments, the mortality of both adults and first instar nymph root mealybugs Formicoccus sp. caused by B. bassiana BB1 culminated 100% at 21 days after treatments. In the nethouse, at 6 months after treatment, the efficacy of B. bassiana BB1 against black pepper root mealybugs reached 99.18%. The levels of photosynthetic pigments in the leaves of the black pepper seedlings increased about 2 times compared to the control. Moreover, B. bassiana BB1 strain also remarkably promoted the growth of the black pepper seedlings under the nethouse conditions

DARK SOIL PITS AND GRAVES IN VOLCANIC CAVE C6.1, KRONG NO, DAK NONG PROVINCE: DOCUMENTATION AND DISCUSSION

    Get PDF
Dark soil pits and graves are critical documents discovered in volcanic cave C6.1. As a result of the investigation and excavation of cave C6.1 conducted in 2017, 2018, and 2019, we have discovered vestiges of nine dark soil pits and seven relatively intact graves, together with teeth and other human remains scattered in the cultural layer. This is an important source of information on the racial composition of the prehistoric inhabitants of the Central Highlands during the Neolithic period, as well as the paleoenvironment, environmental adaptations, and flora and fauna that prehistoric inhabitants exploited for their livelihoods. This article introduces documents and reconstructs the socioeconomic picture of the prehistoric inhabitants of cave C6.1. It also contributes scientific documents for the general conservation and promotion of heritage to develop sustainable cultural tourism in Dak Nong Province

Investigation of Thermodynamic Properties of Metal Thin Film by Statistical Moment Method

    Get PDF
The thermodynamic properties of the metal thin film with face-centered cubic structure at zero pressure are investigated using the statistical moment method (SMM)(SMM), including the anharmonicity effects of thermal lattice vibrations. The Helmholtz free energy, linear thermal expansion coefficients, specific heats at the constant volume and those at the constant pressure, CVC_V and CpC_p are derived in closed analytic forms in terms of the power moments of the atomic displacements. Numerical calculations for thermodynamic quantities of Al, Au and Ag thin films are found to be in good agreement with those of the other theoretical results and experimental data

Numerical Investigations of Laser Diode End-pumped Solid-state Cr3+^{3+}:LiSAF Lasers Passively Q-switched with Cr4+^{4+}:YSO Crystal

We have numerically investigated, for the first time, the optical performance and characteristics of diode-end-pumped passively Cr4+^{4+}:YSO Q-switched solid-state Cr3+^{3 + }:LiSAF lasers using a rate equation system extended to multi-wavelength. Homogeneously broadened emission spectra of the laser crystal and broad absorption spectra of Cr4+^{4+}:YSO saturable absorber have been respected in the investigation. A tunable passively Q-switched laser operation is also developed with a birefringent filter plate used as an intracavity selective element. As a result, improved understanding of passively Q-switched Cr4+^{4+}:YSO solid-state Cr3+^{3+}:LiSAF lasers has been obtained in broadband and tunable laser operations. Characteristics of the tunable passively Q-switched Cr3+^{3 + }:LiSAF laser were demonstrated to be clearly dependent on wavelength. The spectro-temporal evolution of a single pulse emitted from the passively Q-switched Cr3+^{3 + }:LiSAF laser has been reported

Current medical product development for diagnosis, surgical planning and treatment in the areas of Neurosurgery, Orthopeadic and Dental-Cranio-Maxillofacial surgery in Vietnam

With the population of 86 million and good GDP growth in recent decades, the medical market in Vietnam is growing fast. However, most of the medical technology products are imported, and the number of locally manufactured ones is limited and they do not have the high competition capability in term of quality, quantity and types. In this paper, the current product development in Vietnam for diagnosis, surgical planning and treatment in the areas of Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Orthopeadic and Dental-Cranio-Maxillofacial surgery is presented. A roadmap for medical technology development in Vietnam is propose

Retrieval of material properties of monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides from magnetoexciton energy spectra

Reduced exciton mass, polarizability, and dielectric constant of the surrounding medium are essential properties for semiconduction materials, and they can be extracted recently from the magnetoexciton energies. However, the acceptable accuracy of the previously suggested method requires very high magnetic intensity. Therefore, in the present paper, we propose an alternative method of extracting these material properties from recently available experimental magnetoexciton s-state energies in monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). The method is based on the high sensitivity of exciton energies to the material parameters in the Rytova-Keldysh model. It allows us to vary the considered material parameters to get the best fit of the theoretical calculation to the experimental exciton energies for the 1s1s, 2s2s, and 3s3s states. This procedure gives values of the exciton reduced mass and 2D polarizability. Then, the experimental magnetoexciton spectra compared to the theoretical calculation gives also the average dielectric constant. Concrete applications are presented only for monolayers WSe2_2 and WS2_2 from the recently available experimental data. However, the presented approach is universal and can be applied to other monolayer TMDCs. The mentioned fitting procedure requires a fast and effective method of solving the Schr\"{o}dinger of an exciton in monolayer TMDCs with a magnetic field. Therefore, we also develop such a method in this study for highly accurate magnetoexciton energies.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 4 table

Stable doped hybrid sol-gel materials for solid-state dye laser

    No full text
International audienceLaser effects have been obtained with dye-doped hybrid xerogel samples prepared several years ago and stored in different "classical" conditions. Firstly, using the same configuration of the laser cavity as was used 4-5 years ago, we have obtained almost identical laser performances, and slope conversion efficiencies were measured up to 80% and operational lifetimes, with 1-mJ initial output energy and 10-Hz repetition rate of several hundred thousand pulses obtained. Secondly, we have introduced the new pyrromethene 605 dye into a hybrid xerogel matrix and obtained good laser performances similar to the rest of the pyrromethene famil
