Functional Mn--Mgk_k cation complexes in GaN featured by Raman spectroscopy

The evolution of the optical branch in the Raman spectra of (Ga,Mn)N:Mg epitaxial layers as a function of the Mn and Mg concentrations, reveals the interplay between the two dopants. We demonstrate that the various Mn-Mg-induced vibrational modes can be understood in the picture of functional Mn--Mg$_k$ complexes formed when substitutional Mn cations are bound to $k$ substitutional Mg through nitrogen atoms, the number of ligands $k$ being driven by the ratio between the Mg and the Mn concentrations.Comment: Accepted for publication in Applied Physics Lette

Propaganda : perspectiva linguística e de corpora de uma força poderosa

Mestrado em Estudos InglesesA presente dissertação analisa algumas das Técnicas de Propaganda mais comuns usadas no Discurso Político. O caso da “Guerra ao Terrorismo”, tal como foi definida por George W. Bush Presidente dos Estados Unidos da América, foi escolhido para ilustrar as mesmas. Os discursos serão examinados qualitativa e quantitativamente através de técnicas de Corpora Linguísticos Informatizados e uma comparação com Hitler será feita. A Dissertação apresenta o contexto de ocorrência dos discursos, uma enumeração de algumas das Técnicas de Propagandas mais recorrentes e uma análise detalhada dos factos mencionados anteriormente. Pretendo demonstrar com “casos reais e análises detalhadas” alguns dos aspectos mais ocultos dos Discursos Políticos e as sua intenções “manipuladoras”. ABSTRACT: The following dissertation analyzes some of the most common Propaganda Devices used in political speech. The example of the War on Terrorism was chosen to illustrate these as defined by George W. Bush, President of the United States of America’s administration. The speeches will be examined both qualitatively and quantitatively through examining computer corpora and a comparison will be made with the speeches of Hitler. The dissertation presents the context in which those speeches happened, an enumeration of some of the most common propaganda techniques and a detailed analysis of the facts previously mentioned. I want to show with real cases and detailed analyses, some of the most hidden aspects of political speech and its “manipulative” intentions

JSClassFinder: A Tool to Detect Class-like Structures in JavaScript

With the increasing usage of JavaScript in web applications, there is a great demand to write JavaScript code that is reliable and maintainable. To achieve these goals, classes can be emulated in the current JavaScript standard version. In this paper, we propose a reengineering tool to identify such class-like structures and to create an object-oriented model based on JavaScript source code. The tool has a parser that loads the AST (Abstract Syntax Tree) of a JavaScript application to model its structure. It is also integrated with the Moose platform to provide powerful visualization, e.g., UML diagram and Distribution Maps, and well-known metric values for software analysis. Evaluation of strengthening techniques of traditional masonry buildings: case study of a four-building aggregate

Increasing appraisal of the durability, conservation state, and changeable use and function of old buildings in urban centers relies a great deal on the structural safety evaluation of vertical load capacity and the ability to resist horizontal forces. The need to assess seismic vulnerability, particularly of traditional masonry buildings, is a key issue. Evaluation of the seismic vulnerability of old buildings is essential in the definition of strengthening needs and minimization of damage from seismic actions in the safeguarding of built heritage. A three-dimensional model was developed for an aggregate of four traditional masonry buildings located in the old city center of Coimbra, in Portugal. The finite element modeling of these buildings has aimed to identify structural fragility, understand the damages detected, and evaluate the global structural safety of these types of buildings. The primary results obtained in this case study helped to interpret the structural damage and stress distribution, and verified global stability and its consequences. Different strengthening techniques to improve the global behavior of these buildings were modeled and analyzed. A comparison of the efficiencies of strengthening strategies is also discussed.
