    Construction of the Hill48 and Yld89 for Auto-body Steel Sheets considering the Strain Rate

    This paper deals with the anisotropic material properties and the initial yield locus considering the strain rate. Uni-axial tensile tests are performed with variation of the strain rate in order to obtain flow stress curves and the tensile properties. The R-values have been measured with a high speed camera by analyzing the deformation history during the tensile test. Anisotropy of auto-body steel sheets have been described by using Hill48 and Yld89 (Barlat89) yield functions according to the strain rate ranged from 0.001/sec to 100/sec. Hill48 and Yld89 yield loci of auto-body steel sheets at various strain rates have been constructed in order to visualize the initial yield state. The performance of two yield criteria is evaluated by comparing yield loci constructed in the principal stress plane. The initial yield locus becomes different from the static one when the strain rate is considered to describe the anisotropy of the steel sheets

    Pediatric Feeding Disorder: Consensus Definition and Conceptual Framework

    Pediatric feeding disorders (PFDs) lack a universally accepted definition. Feeding disorders require comprehensive assessment and treatment of 4 closely related, complementary domains (medical, psychosocial, and feeding skill-based systems and associated nutritional complications). Previous diagnostic paradigms have, however, typically defined feeding disorders using the lens of a single professional discipline and fail to characterize associated functional limitations that are critical to plan appropriate interventions and improve quality of life. Using the framework of the World Health Organization International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health, a unifying diagnostic term is proposed: “Pediatric Feeding Disorder” (PFD), defined as impaired oral intake that is not age-appropriate, and is associated with medical, nutritional, feeding skill, and/or psychosocial dysfunction. By incorporating associated functional limitations, the proposed diagnostic criteria for PFD should enable practitioners and researchers to better characterize the needs of heterogeneous patient populations, facilitate inclusion of all relevant disciplines in treatment planning, and promote the use of common, precise, terminology necessary to advance clinical practice, research, and health-care policy

    Failure Elongation of Steel Sheets for an Autobody at the High Strain Rate

    This paper presents the dynamic failure elongation of conventional mild steels and advanced high strength steel sheets such as TRIP and DP steels. The failure elongation has been obtained from the high speed tensile testing machine with various strain rates ranged from 0.003/s to 200/s. The experimental result demonstrates that the tensile elongation does not simply decrease as the strain rate increases, but it decreases from the quasi-static state to the strain rate of 0.1 or 1/s and increases again up to the strain rate of 100/s. Furthermore, some high strength steels have the tendency that the tensile elongation increases as the strain rate increases. This tendency has varieties depending on the microstructure and forming history of sheet metal. Moreover, the localized strain rate hardening in the necking region induces the increase of elongation. This phenomenon is very important not only in sheet metal forming but also in the crashworthiness evaluation to predict the fracture of sheet metal members

    Therapeutic embolization of the dural arteriovenous malformation involving the jugular bulb.

    Pulsatile tinnitus is a rarely occurring symptom of vascular origin. Most frequently, the symptoms are due to an arteriovenous malformation, to a tumor of the jugular glomus or to a local arterial stenosis. A 39-yr-old Korean male suffering from pulsatile tinnitus of the left ear was diagnosed to have dural arteriovenous malformation of the jugular bulb. Magnetic resonance imaging and angiography revealed a high-velocity vascular lesion encroaching the internal jugular vein and sigmoid sinuses. Digital subtraction angiography demonstrated a dural arteriovenous malformation involving the jugular bulb. The arterial supply was from the neuromeningeal branch of the left ascending pharyngeal artery and inferior tympanic artery. Stenosis of the left jugular vein caused retrograde venous drainage through the contralateral transverse sinus. Superselective embolization of these feeding arteries was successfully performed using 25% mixture of N-butylcyanoacrylate and lipiodol. In postembolization period, his complaints of pulsatile tinnitus and buzzing noise behind his left ear disappeared

    Galactic 511 keV line from MeV millicharged dark matter

    We present a possible explanation of the recently observed 511 keV γ\gamma-ray anomaly with a new ``millicharged'' fermion. The new fermion is light (O(MeV){\cal O}({\rm MeV})) but has never been observed by any collider experiments mainly because of its tiny electromagnetic charge ϵe\epsilon e. We show that constraints from its relic density in the Universe and collider experiments allow a parameter range such that the 511 keV cosmic γ\gamma-ray emission from the galactic bulge may be due to positron production from this millicharged fermion.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures; To appear in Phys.     Effect of disorder on the magnetic and electronic structure of a prospective spin-gapless semiconductor MnCrVAl

    Recent discovery of a new class of materials, spin-gapless semiconductors (SGS), has attracted considerable attention in the last few years, primarily due to potential applications in the emerging field of spin-based electronics (spintronics). Here, we investigate structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of one potential SGS compound, MnCr-VAl, using various experimental and theoretical techniques. Our calculations show that this material exhibits ≈ 0.5 eV band gap for the majority-spin states, while for the minority-spin it is nearly gapless. The calculated magnetic moment for the com- pletely ordered structure is 2.9 μB/f.u., which is different from our experimentally measured value of almost zero. This discrepancy is explained by the structural disorder. In particular, A2 type disorder, where Mn or Cr atoms exchange their positions with Al atoms, results in induced antiferromagnetic exchange coupling, which, at a certain level of disorder, effectively reduces the total magnetic moment to zero. This is consistent with our x-ray diffraction measurements which indicate the presence of A2 disorder in all of our samples. In addition, we also show that B2 disorder does not result in antiferromagnetic exchange coupling and therefore does not significantly reduce the total magnetic moment

    Many key regulatory proteins in bacteria are present in too low numbers to be detected with conventional methods, which poses a particular challenge for single-cell analyses because such proteins can contribute greatly to phenotypic heterogeneity. Here we develop a microfluidics-based platform that enables single-molecule counting of low-abundance proteins by mechanically slowing-down their diffusion within the cytoplasm of live Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells. Our technique also allows for automated microscopy at high throughput with minimal perturbation to native physiology, as well as viable enrichment/retrieval. We illustrate the method by analysing the control of the master regulator of the E. coli stress response, RpoS, by its adapter protein, SprE (RssB). Quantification of SprE numbers shows that though SprE is necessary for RpoS degradation, it is expressed at levels as low as 3-4 molecules per average cell cycle, and fluctuations in SprE are approximately Poisson distributed during exponential phase with no sign of bursting
