Distributed field plate effects in split-gate trench MOSFETs

    Get PDF
Fast electric transients can cause distributed effects inside trench MOSFETs possibly resulting in device failure. A new test structure to study those distributed effects, combined with a new Transmission-Line Pulse (TLP) setup, is presented. On-wafer TLP measurements are performed and combined with TCAD and SPICE simulations to predict the space and time evolution of the field plate potential during transients.</p

Separation of intrinsic dielectric and resistive electrode losses in ferroelectric capacitors at radio frequencies

    Get PDF
To analyze the intrinsic dielectric performance of planar high-density capacitors at radio frequencies (RF), the dielectric losses need to be distinguished from the resistive electrode losses. The resistive losses of the electrodes at RF are de-embedded employing a linear regression procedure with partial compensation for distributed effects. We use tunable ferroelectric capacitors with a barium strontium titanate (BST) dielectric with an inner diameter d ≥ 8 μm on a silicon substrate. The de-embedding of the electrode losses has been successfully performed utilizing 1-Port RF measurement data from of an Advantest R3767CG vector network analyzer (VNA) in the frequency range of 10 MHz – 8 GHz

Management Approach : The Virtuous Corporation as a Moral Agent for Sustainable Development

    Get PDF
This chapter examines the corporation as a moral agent for sustainable development. While sustainable development in business organizations can be argued from utility-and duty-based ethical theories, it is suggested that virtue-based ethics is needed to develop a moral agency for sustainable development, as it focuses on the organizational character. In addition, it is proposed that the biosphere (the global sum of all ecosystems) is accepted as the ultimate principal for all planetary agents to avoid an anthropocentric and only inward-looking position typical for ethical theories. Thus, a business organization can work as a nexus for virtue and develop a moral agency that contributes to the well-being of the biosphere and all of its members.Peer reviewe

The ASIMOV Prize for scientific publishing - HEP researchers trigger young people toward science

    Get PDF
This work presents the ASIMOV Prize for scientific publishing, which was launched in Italy in 2016. The prize aims to bring the young generations closer to scientific culture, through the critical reading of popular science books. The books are selected by a committee that includes scientists, professors, Ph.D. and Ph.D. students, writers, journalists and friends of culture, and most importantly, over 800 school teachers. Students are actively involved in the prize, according to the best practices of public engagement: they read, review the books and vote for them, choosing the winner. The experience is quite successful: 12,000 students from 270 schools all over Italy participated in the last edition. The possibility of replicating this experience in other countries is indicated, as was done in Brazil in 2020 with more than encouraging results

Radiofluorination of a highly potent ATM inhibitor as a potential PET imaging agent

Availability of data and materials: The datasets used and/or analysed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.Supplementary Information is available online at: https://ejnmmires.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s13550-022-00920-z#Sec11 .Purpose: Ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) is a key mediator of the DNA damage response, and several ATM inhibitors (ATMi) are currently undergoing early phase clinical trials for the treatment of cancer. A radiolabelled ATMi to determine drug pharmacokinetics could assist patient selection in a move towards more personalised medicine. The aim of this study was to synthesise and investigate the first 18F-labelled ATM inhibitor [18F]1 for non-invasive imaging of ATM protein and ATMi pharmacokinetics. Methods: Radiofluorination of a confirmed selective ATM inhibitor (1) was achieved through substitution of a nitro-precursor with [18F]fluoride. Uptake of [18F]1 was assessed in vitro in H1299 lung cancer cells stably transfected with shRNA to reduce expression of ATM. Blocking studies using several non-radioactive ATM inhibitors assessed binding specificity to ATM. In vivo biodistribution studies were performed in wild-type and ATM-knockout C57BL/6 mice using PET/CT and ex vivo analysis. Uptake of [18F]1 in H1299 tumour xenografts was assessed in BALB/c nu/nu mice. Results: Nitro-precursor 2 was synthesised with an overall yield of 12%. Radiofluorination of 2 achieved radiochemically pure [18F]1 in 80 ± 13 min with a radiochemical yield of 20 ± 13% (decay-corrected) and molar activities up to 79.5 GBq/μmol (n = 11). In vitro, cell-associated activity of [18F]1 increased over 1 h, and retention of [18F]1 dropped to 50% over 2 h. [18F]1 uptake did not correlate with ATM expression, but could be reduced significantly with an excess of known ATM inhibitors, demonstrating specific binding of [18F]1 to ATM. In vivo, fast hepatobiliary clearance was observed with tumour uptake ranging 0.13–0.90%ID/g after 1 h. Conclusion: Here, we report the first radiofluorination of an ATM inhibitor and its in vitro and in vivo biological evaluations, revealing the benefits but also some limitations of 18F-labelled ATM inhibitors. This research was supported by MRC (MR/R01695X/1) and CRUK though the Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology

A pragmatic approach to evaluate alternative indicators to GDP

    Get PDF
The serious economic crisis broken out in 2008 highly stressed the limitations of GDP used as a well-being indicator and as a predictive tool for economy. This induced the need to identify new indicators able to link the economic prosperity of a country to aspects of sustainable development and externalities, both positive and negative, in the long run. The aim of this paper is to introduce a structured approach which supports the choice or the construction of alternative indicators to GDP. The starting point is the definition of what a well-being indicator actually should represent according to the Recommendations of the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Report on the measurement of economic performance and social progress. Then the paper introduces a systematic procedure for the analysis of well-being indicators. The different phases of this procedure entail the checking of indicators technical properties and their effect on the representational efficacy. Finally, some of the most representative well-being indicators drawn from the literature are compared and a detailed application example is propose

Update of complications and functional outcome of the ileo-pouch anal anastomosis: overview of evidence and meta-analysis of 96 observational studies

Item does not contain fulltextOBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive update of the outcome of the ileo-pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA). DATA SOURCES: An extensive search in PubMed, EMBASE, and The Cochrane Library was conducted. STUDY SELECTION AND DATA EXTRACTION: All studies published after 2000 reporting on complications or functional outcome after a primary open IPAA procedure for UC or FAP were selected. Study characteristics, functional outcome, and complications were extracted. DATA SYNTHESIS: A review with similar methodology conducted 10 years earlier was used to evaluate developments in outcome over time. Pooled estimates were compared using a random-effects logistic meta-analyzing technique. Analyses focusing on the effect of time of study conductance, centralization, and variation in surgical techniques were performed. RESULTS: Fifty-three studies including 14,966 patients were included. Pooled rates of pouch failure and pelvic sepsis were 4.3% (95% CI, 3.5-6.3) and 7.5% (95% CI 6.1-9.1), respectively. Compared to studies published before 2000, a reduction of 2.5% was observed in the pouch failure rate (p = 0.0038). Analysis on the effect of the time of study conductance confirmed a decline in pouch failure. Functional outcome remained stable over time, with a 24-h defecation frequency of 5.9 (95% CI, 5.0-6.9). Technical surgery aspects did not have an important effect on outcome. CONCLUSION: This review provides up to date outcome estimates of the IPAA procedure that can be useful as reference values for practice and research. It is also shows a reduction in pouch failure over time.1 juli 201
