Mars lander survey
The requirements, issues, and design options are reviewed for manned Mars landers. Issues such as high 1/d versus low 1/d shape, parking orbit, and use of a small Mars orbit transfer vehicle to move the lander from orbit to orbit are addressed. Plots of lander mass as a function of Isp, destination orbit, and cargo up and down, plots of initial stack mass in low Earth orbit as a function of lander mass and parking orbit, detailed weight statements, and delta V tables for a variety of options are included. Lander options include a range from minimum landers up to a single stage reusable design. Mission options include conjunction and Venus flyby trajectories using all-cryogenic, hybrid, NERVA, and Mars orbit aerobraking propulsion concepts
Religion in the Negro Spiritual
Much work, especially in recent years, has been done on the music of the Spiritual; but, though others .have generalized in discussing the text of the Spirituals, we propose to go one step farther and point out the doctrines contained in the text of the Spirituals. We believe this has never been done before and for that reason our work has proved all the more interesting. However, in studying the Spirituals, we found that we could not limit ourselves to the text only, for we find that the religion of the Negro is also portrayed by the type of music the texts of the spirituals are sung to
An Unsinkable Carrier: The Midway-Based Forces and the Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway is remembered as one of the greatest military victories in American history and marked as the turning point of the Second World War in the Pacific. The victory has long been celebrated as a great US Naval victory, brought about by the US Navy\u27s Carrier Task Forces. Remembering the battle solely as a carrier victory overlooks the contributions of the Midway-based forces. In truth, the Midway-based forces performed invaluable roles and contributed greatly to the overall victory, and historiography of the Battle of Midway is incomplete without their inclusion. This study documents the contributions of the Midway-based forces and seeks to rectify their omission in the history of the Battle of Midway
