A risk analysis of a national counter cyclical payment (CCP) program for six crops was completed for one year. National planted acre yield risk over the 1986-2000 period was used with FAPRI’s stochastic projection of crop prices for 2001 in the analysis. Four alternative base periods for triggering a CCP were evaluated. Analysis of Representative Rice Farms Under H.R. 2646 and the Continuation of the FAIR Act
In anticipation of the new farm bill, seventeen representative rice farms from six different rice-producing states have been analyzed to compare the continuation of the FAIR Act provisions with the House proposal, H.R. 2646. Each farm was simulated assuming each policy would be in place for the next five-year period, or 2002-2006. Experimental demonstration of painting arbitrary and dynamic potentials for Bose-Einstein condensates
There is a pressing need for robust and straightforward methods to create
potentials for trapping Bose-Einstein condensates which are simultaneously
dynamic, fully arbitrary, and sufficiently stable to not heat the ultracold
gas. We show here how to accomplish these goals, using a rapidly-moving laser
beam that "paints" a time-averaged optical dipole potential in which we create
BECs in a variety of geometries, including toroids, ring lattices, and square
lattices. Matter wave interference patterns confirm that the trapped gas is a
condensate. As a simple illustration of dynamics, we show that the technique
can transform a toroidal condensate into a ring lattice and back into a toroid.
The technique is general and should work with any sufficiently polarizable

Application of the ERTS system to the study of Wyoming resources with emphasis on the use of basic data products
Many potential users of ERTS data products and other aircraft and satellite imagery are limited to visual methods of analyses of these products. Illustrations are presented from Wyoming studies that have employed these standard data products for a variety of geologic and related studies. Possible economic applications of these studies are summarized. Studies include regional geologic mapping for updating and correcting existing maps and to supplement incomplete regional mapping; illustrations of the value of seasonal images in geologic mapping; specialized mapping of such features as sand dunes, playa lakes, lineaments, glacial features, regional facies changes, and their possible economic value; and multilevel sensing as an aid in mineral exploration. Examples of cooperative studies involving botanists, plant scientists, and geologists for the preparation of maps of surface resources that can be used by planners and for environmental impact studies are given
Measuring atomic NOON-states and using them to make precision measurements
A scheme for creating NOON-states of the quasi-momentum of ultra-cold atoms
has recently been proposed [New J. Phys. 8, 180 (2006)]. This was achieved by
trapping the atoms in an optical lattice in a ring configuration and rotating
the potential at a rate equal to half a quantum of angular momentum . In this
paper we present a scheme for confirming that a NOON-state has indeed been
created. This is achieved by spectroscopically mapping out the anti-crossing
between the ground and first excited levels by modulating the rate at which the
potential is rotated. Finally we show how the NOON-state can be used to make

We study the lowest energy E of a relativistic system of N identical bosons
bound by harmonic-oscillator pair potentials in three spatial dimensions. In
natural units the system has the semirelativistic ``spinless-Salpeter''
Hamiltonian H = \sum_{i=1}^N \sqrt{m^2 + p_i^2} + \sum_{j>i=1}^N gamma |r_i -
r_j|^2, gamma > 0. We derive the following energy bounds: E(N) = min_{r>0} [N
(m^2 + 2 (N-1) P^2 / (N r^2))^1/2 + N (N-1) gamma r^2 / 2], N \ge 2, where
P=1.376 yields a lower bound and P=3/2 yields an upper bound for all N \ge 2. A
sharper lower bound is given by the function P = P(mu), where mu =
m(N/(gamma(N-1)^2))^(1/3), which makes the formula for E(2) exact: with this
choice of P, the bounds coincide for all N \ge 2 in the Schroedinger limit m

Distinctive components and perceived sources of gain in Christian counseling
This article describes the results of two survey studies designed to assess Christian practitioners’ perspectives regarding both the distinctive components and undergirding sources of gain in Christian counseling. Both studies utilized mem- bers of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). Study 1 employed a convenience sample of 17 CAPS members, while Study 2 obtained a sample of 161 CAPS psychologists. Results of the studies were congruent and offered support for a multi-dimensional model of Christian counseling. Respon- dents were most likely to endorse God’s active involvement in counseling and the counselor’s faith as the most distinctive components of Christian counseling. The most highly endorsed active ingredient leading to change was the activity of God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit
