Effect of H3BO3 on corrosion in 0.01 M NaCl solution of the interface between low alloy steel A508 and alloy 52 M
The corrosion of the low alloy steel A508-alloy 52 M interface region in buffered and non-buffered chloride containing solutions was studied by using the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET), scanning ion-selective electrode technique (SIET), and time of flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS). The typical pit in low alloy steel A508 formed in NaCl solution was stopped immediately when HBO was added to the NaCl solution, and the pit became cathodic. With increasing immersion time, HBO entered into the pit, and the corrosion of A508 became general corrosion
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Nonadherence to Treatment in People Living With HIV: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Background Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a commonly reported and serious complication among people living with HIV (PLWH). PTSD may significantly increase unintentional non-adherence to antiretroviral therapy. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to pool the observational studies exploring the association between PTSD and medication adherence among PLWH. Methods Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, and ProQuest to identify relevant articles and dissertations. A random effects meta-analysis with inverse variance weighting was used to summarize the odds ratio (OR) across studies. Meta-regression and subgroup analyses were also carried out to assess the moderation effects for potential factors. Results By synthesizing 12 studies comprising 2489 participants, the pooled odd ratio of non-adherence to antiretroviral therapy was 1.19 (95% confidential interval (CI), 1.03-1.37,p= 0.02). No significant publication bias was detected by Egger's test (Intercept = 0.842,p= 0.284). Factors moderating the association were mean age of participants, depression adjustment, and depression (allp< 0.05). Conclusions This meta-analysis supports that PTSD is related to adherence in PLWH. The hypothesized mechanisms (avoidant behavior and cognitive impairment) underlying this association need further investigation. Overall, this study highlights that clinicians should thoughtfully integrate timely mental health intervention into routine care.</p
Detection of Ricin Intoxication in Mice Using Serum Peptide Profiling by MALDI-TOF/MS
Ricin toxin has been regarded as one of the most potent poisons in the plant kingdom, and there is no effective therapeutic countermeasure or licensed vaccine against it. Consequently, early detection of ricin intoxication is necessary. In this study, we took mice as test subjects, and used the technique of Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS) and ClinProt™ microparticle beads to set up an effective detection model with an accuracy of almost 100%. Eighty-two peaks in the mass range 1000–10,000 m/z were detected by ClinProTools software, and five different peaks with m/z of 4982.49, 1333.25, 1537.86, 4285.05 and 2738.88 had the greatest contribution to the accuracy and sensitivity of this model. They may therefore provide biomarkers for ricin intoxication
