    The mediating role of self/everyday creativity and depression on the relationship between creative personality traits and problematic social media use among emerging adults

    Personality is one of the important contributory factors in the development of problematic technology use. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the direct and indirect associations of creative personality traits with problematic social media use via self/everyday creativity, depression, and loneliness. A total of 460 Turkish emerging adults aged between 18 and 26 years (61% female) were surveyed. Findings indicated that (i) task-orientedness was indirectly associated with problematic social media use via self/everyday creativity, (ii) self-confidence was directly and indirectly associated with problematic social media use via self/everyday creativity and depression, (iii) risk-taking was indirectly associated with problematic social media use via depression, and (iv) self/everyday creativity and depression were directly associated with problematic social media use. The present study is the first to suggest that creative personality traits (i.e., task-orientedness, self-confidence, and risk-taking) and self/everyday creativity are associated with problematic social media use and that these factors should be taken into account when considering the etiology of problematic social media use

    Development and validation of Videogame Addiction Scale for Children (VASC)

    The aim of the present study was to develop a valid and reliable Videogame Addiction Scale for Children (VASC). The data were derived from 780 children who completed the Videogame Addiction Scale (405 girls and 375 boys; 48.1% ranging in age from 9 to 12 years). The sample was randomly split into two different sub-samples (sample 1, n=400; sample 2, n= 380). Sample 1 was used to perform exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to define the factorial structure of VASC. As a result of EFA, a four-factor structure comprising 21 items was obtained and explained 55% of the total variance (the four factors being "self-control," "reward/reinforcement", "problems," and "involvement"). The internal consistency reliability of VASC has found 0.89. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to confirm the factorial structure obtained by EFA in the remaining half of sample (n= 390). The obtained fit indices from the CFA confirmed the structure of the EFA. The 21-item VASC has good psychometric properties that can be used among Turkish schoolchildren populations

    Trait emotional intelligence and problematic social media use among adults: the mediating role of social media use motives

    There are many contributing factors to problematic social media use including personality differences, psychosocial factors, and specific use motivations. The present study (N = 444 emerging adults, 75% women) investigated the direct and indirect relationships between trait emotional intelligence and problematic social media use via social media use motives by testing a complex mediation model. Path analyses suggested that trait emotional intelligence was directly and indirectly associated with problematic social media use via two social media use motives: (i) expressing or presenting a more popular self, and (ii) passing time. Results of the present study indicate that trait emotional intelligence may have a role in the motives for using social media as well as the development and maintenance of problematic social media use. Moreover, future studies should focus mediator risk factors between trait emotional intelligence and problematic social media use

    Extraction of important electrical parameters of CuO

Three distinct electrical conduction contributions with discrete characteristic activation energies were observed. The applicability of various theoretical models was considered to explain results on electrical transport. FT-IR, FT-Raman and dispersive Raman spectra were recorded in the solid phase. H-1, C-13 NMR and UV-vis spectra were recorded in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution. The results of theoretical calculations for the spectra of the title molecule were compared with the experimental spectra. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) analyses were performed. The theoretical calculations for the molecular structure and spectroscopic studies were performed with DFT (B3LYP) and 6-311G (d,p) basis set calculations using the Gaussian 09 program.     Biomimetic peptide-conjugated membranes for developing an artificial cornea

    2022 Medical Technologies Congress, TIPTEKNO 2022 -- 31 October 2022 through 2 November 2022 -- -- 184752The corneal endothelium is composed of a single layer of specialized endothelial cells, protecting, and nourishing the inner surface of the cornea. Corneal endothelial cells do not proliferate after birth and their number decrease with age. Trauma, inflammation, or surgical intervention can cause cell loss. When damage is extensive and the density of corneal endothelial cells decreases to a critical level, it results in corneal edema and vision loss. Besides them, when corneal endothelium has irreversible damage, the only treatment way is corneal transplantation. But there are some drawbacks such as finding donors, immune reactions, and the number of patients waiting on the transplantation lists for years. Tissue engineering approaches can provide promising alternatives for the regeneration of corneal endothelium tissue. Peptides can be used to modify and functionalize the scaffolds, allowing for the production of bioactive and biomimetic surfaces. Peptide-modified scaffold surfaces might direct and enhance the behaviors of cells. In this study, the aim was to functionalize the polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes with tissue-specific peptides and to characterize the peptide-conjugated membranes by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis.     Liver resection modulates hepatic chemokine levels in breast cancer

    BACKGROUND: Resection of metastatic hepatic tumors of breast cancer may result in the acceleration of hepatic and extrahepatic tumor progression due to the microenvironmental circulation of chemokines. This study aimed to investigate the effect of hepatectomy on a large panel of chemokines, liver regeneration, and myeloid cell levels in an experimental breast cancer model. METHODS: The 4T1 breast cancer cells were inoculated, and 30% to 40% hepatectomy was performed. Mice without tumors or only laparotomy (no hepatectomy) served as control groups. After 14 days (short-term) and 21 days (long-term), tissue samples were obtained from the regions near and distant from the resection site. Chemokine levels were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay arrays. Myeloid infiltration in the liver and the primary tumor and hepatic regeneration status were also histopathologically evaluated. RESULTS: The levels of pro-tumorigenic chemokines such as CCL2, CCL3, CCL4, and CCL5 were elevated in hepatectomized tumor-bearing animals. This observation was consistent with the presence of hepatic metastases. Liver regeneration and myeloid cell infiltration showed significant differences between the tumor-bearing hepatectomized groups followed in the short and long term. CONCLUSION: Our study showed elevation and variations in chemokines after hepatectomy, with a prominent increase in pro-tumorigenic chemokines. These results can be associated with the acceleration of metastasis after liver resection. However, further prospective studies are required to better define the impact of resection, which may transform the liver into a favorable site for metastasis
