Hidden photon CDM search at Tokyo

We report on a search for hidden photon cold dark matter (HP CDM) using a novel technique with a dish antenna. We constructed two independent apparatus: one is aiming at the detection of the HP with a mass of eV\sim\,\rm{eV} which employs optical instruments, and the other is for a mass of 5×105eV\sim5\times10^{-5}\, \rm{eV} utilizing a commercially available parabolic antenna facing on a plane reflector. From the result of the measurements, we found no evidence for the existence of HP CDM and set upper limits on the photon-HP mixing parameter χ\chi.Comment: Contributed to the 11th Patras Workshop on Axions, WIMPs and WISPs, Zaragoza, June 22 to 26, 201

Search for Hidden photons with Sumico

We searched for solar hidden photons in the visible photon energy range using a hidden photon detector add-on attached to Sumico. It consists of a parabolic mirror of dia. 0.5m and f=1m installed in a vacuum chamber, and a low noise photomultiplier tube at the focal point. No evidence for the existence of hidden photons was found in the latest measurement giving a new limit on the photon-hidden photon mixing parameter in the hidden photon mass range 0.001-1eV.Comment: 6 pages. Impact of Clipping versus Coiling on Postoperative Hemodynamics and Pulmonary Edema after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Volume management is critical for assessment of cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). This multicenter prospective cohort study compared the impact of surgical clipping versus endovascular coiling on postoperative hemodynamics and pulmonary edema in patients with SAH. Hemodynamic parameters were measured for 14 days using a transpulmonary thermodilution system. The study included 202 patients, including 160 who underwent clipping and 42 who underwent coiling. There were no differences in global ejection fraction (GEF), cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance index, or global end-diastolic volume index between the clipping and coiling groups in the early period. However, extravascular lung water index (EVLWI) and pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI) were significantly higher in the clipping group in the vasospasm period. Postoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) level was higher in the clipping group and was significantly correlated with postoperative brain natriuretic peptide level. Multivariate analysis found that PVPI and GEF were independently associated with high EVLWI in the early period, suggesting cardiogenic edema, and that CRP and PVPI, but not GEF, were independently associated with high EVLWI in the vasospasm period, suggesting noncardiogenic edema. In conclusion, clipping affects postoperative CRP level and may thereby increase noncardiogenic pulmonary edema in the vasospasm period. His trial is registered with University Hospital Medical Information Network UMIN000003794

Crystalline Inclusions in Hepatocyte Mitochondria of a Patient with Porphyria Cutanea Tarda

Intramitochondrial crystalline inclusions were found in hepatocytes of a patient with porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). They were composed of parallel filamentous structures which measured approximately 12 nm in diameter. Each filament was separated from an adjacent filament by a space measuring approximately 5 nm. The mitochondria containing such inclusions were usually elongated and enlarged. It seemed likely that these changes are not particular in PCT, but indicate one reversible pathological finding in the liver
