Cascade MIMO P-PID controllers applied in an over-actuated quadrotor Tilt-Rotor
To map the Virtual Control Actions (VCAs) into
Real Control Actions (RCAs), over-actuated systems typically
require nonlinear control allocation methods. On embedded
robotic platforms, computational efforts are not always available.
With this in mind, this work presents the design of a
Quadrotor Tilt-Rotor (QTR) through a new concept of control
allocation with uncoupled RCAs, where a nonlinear system is
divided into partially dependent and linear subsystems with fast
and robust convergence. The RCAs are divided into smaller
and linearized sets and solved sequentially. Then, the cascade
Multipe-Input-Multipe-Output (MIMO) Proportional (P)-
Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controllers tuning
were presented with saturation constants and successive loop
closure technique, where some open-field environment tests were
conducted to validate the respective tuning. In the end, it showed
to be reliable, robust, efficient, and applicable when VCAs are
overlapped between the subsystems. The authors would like to thank CEFET-MG and Leuphana

This thesis studies three topics related to voltage collapse: Load margin increase,
load shedding and sensitivity analysis. For each study, optimization techniques are employed.
For load margin increase, a new strategy to avoid voltage collapse is proposed.
With the help of interior points-based optimization algorithms, some control actions are
proposed in order to minimize the voltage collapse symptoms. Even though an operating
point close to voltage collapse is associated with high system loss, the literature shows
that minimizing the loss may not enlarge the system margin. Rather than that, this work
proposes to reduce the system loss and maximize the voltage level in a certain area of
interest, yielding a better load margin with no risk of over excitation.
The second part of the work is related to load shedding analysis. The literature
shows that optimization techniques provide the best results for this purpose. On the other
hand, such methods are time consuming. As a consequence of that, this thesis works on
three different methodologies for load shedding analysis. The first one is based on the
direct method, widely spread in the literature for load margin calculation, but not usually
applied for load shedding studies. The second approach is based on interior points
method. For this, a Lagrangian function is created using only the objective function and
the active and reactive power equations.
Finally, the problem of topological changes is addressed. When it comes to topological
changes, the problem of building new transmission lines, construction of new plants
or capacitor shunt installation are very expensive. It drives one to be careful about the
planning actions recommended. For this, these actions need to be exhaustively studied.
With this purpose, this thesis presents a methodology based on optimization theory. Such
a methodology employs the Lagrange multipliers, obtained by a interior points algorithm,
as an index which identifies effectively the best control actions to be taken in order to
achieve a goal.
A literatura
desejado

Evaluating the Impact of Streamflow Rating Curve Precision on Firm Energy of Hydropower Plants
In Brazil, the correct measurement of the individual firm energy of a plant is important, since it influences directly the determination of its assured energy which is used to establish contracts between power plants and distribution companies, free consumers, and traders. With increasing technological development and greater reliability in the use of automated techniques for monitoring, the use of the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), has become a reality in Brazil. The ADCP has many advantages over the traditional techniques used for monitoring flows in gage stations of the national hydrometeorological network. In this context, the purpose of this work is to evaluate the impact of the streamflow rating curve measurement on the evaluation of the firm energy of a hydropower plant. A linear optimization model based on dynamic programming was used to calculate the firm energy and it was considered possible measurement errors in the plant’s inflow values and in the parameters of its polynomials that defines the upward and downward elevation. The results pointed that the two considerations had an impact on the calculated firm energy: the inflow measurements and the streamflow rating curve. Therefore, it is shown the importance of an accurate measurement of inflows for the evaluation of the plant’s firm energy
Performance Comparison of Meta-Heuristics Applied to Optimal Signal Design for Parameter Identification
This paper presents a comparative study that explores the performance of various meta-heuristics employed for Optimal Signal Design, specifically focusing on estimating parameters in nonlinear systems. The study introduces the Robust Sub-Optimal Excitation Signal Generation and Optimal Parameter Estimation (rSOESGOPE) methodology, which is originally derived from the well-known Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Through a real-life case study involving an Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) equipped with three Degrees of Freedom (DoFs) and an aerial holonomic propulsion system, the effectiveness of different meta-heuristics is thoroughly evaluated. By conducting an in-depth analysis and comparison of the obtained results from the diverse meta-heuristics, this study offers valuable insights for selecting the most suitable optimization technique for parameter estimation in nonlinear systems. Researchers and experimental tests in the field can benefit from the comprehensive examination of these techniques, aiding them in making informed decisions about the optimal approach for optimizing parameter estimation in nonlinear systems
