The writer has recently collected information concerning the purchasing policies and methods of seven industrial corporations. Four of these companies would rank among the largest and best organized in this country and the others are representative concerns in their respective fields. It is well to look to the methods of the largest corporations for examples of efficient practice, for such companies have been more successful generally in developing the simplest and most effectual means of organization. Despite the fact that the requirements of large corporations are necessarily far more varied, their methods are usually applicable in principle to smaller concerns

Follow-up after treatment for head and neck cancer: United Kingdom National Multidisciplinary Guidelines

    Get PDF
This is the official guideline endorsed by the specialty associations involved in the care of head and neck cancer patients in the UK. In the absence of high-level evidence base for follow-up practices, the duration and frequency are often at the discretion of local centres. By reviewing the existing literature and collating experience from varying practices across the UK, this paper provides recommendations on the work up and management of lateral skull base cancer based on the existing evidence base for this rare condition

Hydrodynamic lubricant film separation during co-directional and counter-directional rotations of disengaged wet clutch packs

The parasitic drag losses incurred by wet clutches, used in transmission systems, can significantly affect vehicular powertrain efficiency. This paper presents a novel implicit solution for hydrodynamic parasitic drag losses of disengaged clutches. These are generated by conjunctional friction, taking into account lubricant film separation during co-directional and counter-directional disc pair rotations. Lubricant film rupture is considered through application of incipient reverse flow boundary condition, which is representative of lubricant film separation. The results point to the operating conditions at which significant power losses occur. In particular, the time efficient model is able to represent the small losses incurred during co-directional rotation of disc pairs
