Relationship between Sedentary Behavior and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis
We explored the relationship between sedentary behavior and the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients on chronic hemodialysis. A total of 60 outpatients, aged 71.1Ā±12.0 years, were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Sedentary behavior was measured using a tri-accelerometer and HRQOL was evaluated by the Euro-QOL questionnaire (EQ-5D). The relationship between the patientsā sedentary behavior and HRQOL was evaluated by simple and multiple correlation analyses. The relative sedentary behavior (%) for total days was 73.7Ā±12.9% and the EQ-5D scores were 0.688Ā±0.233. Relative sedentary behavior (%) was negatively correlated with EQ-5D scores for total days, hemodialysis days and non-hemodialysis days. The relative light-intensity physical activity (LPA) (%) and relative moderately vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) (%) were correlated with EQ-5D scores. Multiple regression showed that the relative sedentary behavior (%) had a clinical impact on EQ-5D scores after adjusting for confounding factors for total, hemodialysis and non-hemodialysis days. Sedentary behavior is closely linked to HRQOL, and reducing sedentary behavior may be beneficial to improve the HRQOL of patients on chronic hemodialysis
Relation between Prolonged Sedentary Bouts and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis
This study aimed to investigate the link between prolonged sedentary bouts and health-related quality of life (QOL) in patients on chronic hemodialysis (CHD). A total of 84 outpatients on CHD, aged 71.6Ā±11.8 years, were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Parameters for prolonged sedentary bouts [i.e., ā§ 30 min (% and bout) and ā§ 60 min (% and bout)] were measured using a triaxial accelerometer. Health-related QOL (HRQOL) was evaluated by the Euro-QOL (EQ-5D). Clinical parameters were obtained from medical records. Relatively prolonged sedentary bouts (%) were 44.0Ā±18.2 (ā§ 30 min) and 29.8Ā±16.5 (ā§ 60 min) for total days. Prolonged sedentary bouts (bouts) were 6.2Ā±2.7 (ā§ 30 min) and 2.7Ā±1.6 (ā§ 60 min) for total days. EQ-5D scores were 0.728Ā±0.220. All prolonged sedentary bout parameters were negatively correlated with EQ-5D scores, except for prolonged sedentary bouts (ā§ 60 min) (min) and relatively prolonged sedentary bouts (%) on hemodialysis days. Multiple regression analysis showed that prolonged sedentary bout parameters were an important factor in EQ-5D scores even after adjusting for confounding factors for total and non-hemodialysis days. Our results suggested that prolonged sedentary bouts were closely associated with HRQOL in patients on CHD, especially on non-hemodialysis days
Relationship between Changes in Physical Activity and Changes in Health-related Quality of Life in Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis with 1-Year Follow-up
In a longitudinal study, we examined the link between changes in physical activity and changes in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients on chronic hemodialysis. Seventy-one patients (43 males, 28 females; aged 70.9Ā±10.6 years) on chronic hemodialysis in September 2013 were enrolled. The data of the 43 patients whose complete measurements were taken again in September 2014 were used for the longitudinal analysis. Clinical parameters including age, height, dry weight, duration of hemodialysis, blood pressure (BP), blood triglyceride and HDL cholesterol levels, physical activity, and HRQOL were evaluated. Physical activity was measured by a tri-accelerometer, and HRQOL was evaluated by the EuroQol questionnaire (EQ-5D). In the first cross-sectional analysis, EQ-5D scores were significantly correlated with daily step counts (steps per day) on all days and non-hemodialysis days. In the second longitudinal analysis, in the women, changes in EQ-5D scores were positively correlated with changes in daily step counts on all days. In all patients, changes in EQ-5D were weakly and negatively correlated with changes in physical activity (1-3 METs: min per day) on hemodialysis days. Promoting daily physical activity may improve the HRQOL in patients on chronic hemodialysis, especially in women
Relationship between Sedentary Behavior and All-cause Mortality in Japanese Chronic Hemodialysis Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study
We investigated the relationship between sedentary behavior and all-cause mortality in patients undergoing hemodialysis. A total of 71 patients (39 men, 32 women, aged 72.1Ā±11.7 years) were enrolled in this longitudinal study. Their sedentary behavior was measured using a tri-accelerometer that provides relative values per daily wearing time. We classified the sedentary behavior time into 2 groups (under the median: short-sedentary behavior (SB) group; over the median: long-SB group) and compared the groupsā clinical parameters. We compared the groupsā survival rates by using Kaplan-Meier curves and the log-rank test, and we performed multivariate analyses by a Cox-proportional hazard model to evaluate the relationship between the sedentary behavior and the survival rate. Twenty patients (28.2%) died during the observation period. The survival rate of the short-SB group was significantly higher than that of the long-SB group. Sedentary behavior was thus an important factor for all-cause mortality even after adjusting for confounding factors by a Cox-proportional hazard model. Sedentary behavior is closely linked to all-cause mortality, especially total days and non-hemodialysis days, and reducing sedentary behavior may be beneficial to reduce the all-cause mortality of patients on chronic hemodialysis
Videoconferencing for Home Care Delivery in Japan: Observational Study
Telemedicine has been increasingly used in many health care fields, including home care, where patients receive
medical care at home. Owing to the current COVID-19 crisis, the value of telemedicine via videoconferencing is more recognized,
particularly in allowing immobile patients to continue receiving care. However, the efficacy of telemedicine in home care settings
in Japan remains to be fully appraised. This study aims to identify the use and impact of telemedicine in a singular home care delivery setting in Japan. A retrospective observational study was conducted using patient and other administrative records from a home care clinic. We considered patients who were involved in videoconferencing with home care physicians and telepresenters serving patients during 2018 and 2019. We extracted sociodemographic data of the patients and details of the videoconferencing and descriptively illustrated some specific cases. In a home care clinic in Japan, videoconferencing was conducted in 17 cases (involving 14 patients) over a 2-year period. Of all the cases, 12% (2/17) required emergency transfers and were hospitalized. A total of 88% (15/17) of cases remained; 71% (12/17) of cases were found to need extra medication or to go to a medical facility for consultation, whereas 18% (3/17) of cases were found not to be in need of urgent attention and were asked to rest. Problematic symptoms subsequently improved in 82% (14/17) of cases, and only 6% (1/17) of cases were later hospitalized. Telemedicine was deemed effective for assessing patientsā conditions in the home care setting in situations where home visits by a physician cannot be carried out. Our findings indicate that consultations via videoconferencing are safe and effective, suggesting more active use of videoconferencing in other clinical contexts.N/
The Hyper Suprime-Cam Software Pipeline
In this paper, we describe the optical imaging data processing pipeline
developed for the Subaru Telescope's Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) instrument. The
HSC Pipeline builds on the prototype pipeline being developed by the Large
Synoptic Survey Telescope's Data Management system, adding customizations for
HSC, large-scale processing capabilities, and novel algorithms that have since
been reincorporated into the LSST codebase. While designed primarily to reduce
HSC Subaru Strategic Program (SSP) data, it is also the recommended pipeline
for reducing general-observer HSC data. The HSC pipeline includes high level
processing steps that generate coadded images and science-ready catalogs as

Mixed HCV Infection of Genotype 1B and Other Genotypes Influences Non-response during Daclatasvir + Asunaprevir Combination Therapy
Daclatasvir (DCV) + asunaprevir (ASV) combination therapy has become available for patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) serogroup 1 infection. We studied the efficacy of this therapy by focusing on the factors associated with sustained virological responses (SVR) including resistance-associated variants (RAVs) and mixed infection of different HCV genotypes. We enrolled 951 HCV serogroup 1-positive patients who received this combination therapy at our hospital or affiliated hospitals. The presence of RAVs in non-structural (NS) regions 3 and 5A was analyzed by direct sequencing. HCV genotypes were determined by PCR with genotype-specific primers targeting HCV core and NS5B regions. SVR was achieved in 91.1% of patients. Female sex, age > 70 years, and RAVs were significantly associated with non-SVR (p<0.01 for all). Propensity score-matching results among the patients without RAVs regarding sex, age, and fibrosis revealed that mixed HCV infection determined by HCV NS5B genotyping showed significantly lower SVR rates than 1B-mono infection (p=0.02). Female sex and RAVs were significant factors associated with treatment failure of this combination therapy for patients with HCV serogroup 1 infection. Mixed HCV infection other than 1B-mono infection would be useful for predicting treatment failure
First Data Release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program
The Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) is a three-layered
imaging survey aimed at addressing some of the most outstanding questions in
astronomy today, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy. The
survey has been awarded 300 nights of observing time at the Subaru Telescope
and it started in March 2014. This paper presents the first public data release
of HSC-SSP. This release includes data taken in the first 1.7 years of
observations (61.5 nights) and each of the Wide, Deep, and UltraDeep layers
covers about 108, 26, and 4 square degrees down to depths of i~26.4, ~26.5, and
~27.0 mag, respectively (5sigma for point sources). All the layers are observed
in five broad bands (grizy), and the Deep and UltraDeep layers are observed in
narrow bands as well. We achieve an impressive image quality of 0.6 arcsec in
the i-band in the Wide layer. We show that we achieve 1-2 per cent PSF
photometry (rms) both internally and externally (against Pan-STARRS1), and ~10
mas and 40 mas internal and external astrometric accuracy, respectively. Both
the calibrated images and catalogs are made available to the community through
dedicated user interfaces and database servers. In addition to the pipeline
products, we also provide value-added products such as photometric redshifts
and a collection of public spectroscopic redshifts. Detailed descriptions of

Gene expression analysis in cadmium-stressed roots of a low cadmium-accumulating solanaceous plant, Solanum torvum
Solanum torvum Sw. cv. Torubamubiga (TB) is a low cadmium (Cd)-accumulating plant. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the Cd acclimation process in TB roots, transcriptional regulation was analysed in response to mild Cd treatment: 0.1āĪ¼M CdCl2 in hydroponic solution. A unigene set consisting of 6296 unigene sequences was constructed from 18ā816 TB cDNAs. The distribution of functional categories was similar to tomato, while 330 unigenes were suggested to be TB specific. For expression profiling, the SuperSAGE method was adapted for use with Illumina sequencing technology. Expression tag libraries were constructed from Cd-treated (for 3āh, 1ād, and 3ād) and untreated roots, and 34ā269 species of independent tags were collected. Moreover, 6237 tags were ascribed to the TB or eggplant (aubergine) unigene sequences. Time-course changes were examined, and 2049 up- and 2022 down-regulated tags were identified. Although no tags annotated to metal transporter genes were significantly regulated, a tag annotated to AtFRD3, a xylem-loading citrate transporter, was down-regulated. In addition to induction of heavy metal chaperone proteins, antioxidative and sulphur-assimilating enzymes were induced, confirming that oxidative stress developed even using a mild Cd concentration. Rapid repression of dehydration-related transcription factors and aquaporin isoforms suggests that dehydration stress is a potential constituent of Cd-induced biochemical impediments. These transcriptional changes were also confirmed by real-time reverse transcription-PCR. Further additions of TB unigene sequences and functional analysis of the regulated tags will reveal the molecular basis of the Cd acclimation process, including the low Cd-accumulating characteristics of TB
