This school (Musashigaoka College) is located in the town of "Yoshimi-machi" which is a rural district in the northern area of Saitama Prefecture. Some people who lived around this town played important roles in Japanese history from the Heian era to the Kamakura era especially. For example, a Zen nun, "HIKI" had supported "MINAMOTO Yoritomo" who opened the Kamakura shogunate. And so, we should notice her achievement more. We should utilize information about historic people, landmarks and cultural assets around "Yoshimi-machi" related to great historical events more as regional policies for tourists

This report is a document about "Musashi Matsuyama Castle" which is next to the campus of Musashigaoka college. Historical textbooks for school students don\u27t explain about "Musashi Matsuyama Castle" in detail. And so, details are gathered up from various viewpoints and arranged. It is for making a future contribution to raise town-value through the celebrity improvement of the local cultural asset

There are many important historic landmarks and cultural assets of Japanese history around this school (Musashigaoka College). This report provides new insight in the history of "Hiki" through studies about remains of "Kannonji-Iseki" and, shows interaction between the remains and Tokugawa shogunate

The observation of histopathological samples is a generic technology which is very important in the diagnosis of various diseases. There are many cases in which the oil-immersion operation is required, namely the specimen is observed at the maximum magnification. The oil-immersion operation has brought about a major contribution for the development of the pathology. However, the immersion oil for this operation contaminates the tip of objective lens in the oil-immersion system, and it often becomes a reason of damaging the lens. It is proposed that the use of anisole for the oil-immersion operation can solve this problem by some scholars in clinical test laboratory. As a result, adverse effect to the lens can be drastically reduced, since the anisole adhered to the objective lens is easily volatilized because of its low boiling point. However, the offensive odor of anisole can cause health hazards, and, moreover, it is flammable. In order to mitigate those defects, we developed an oil-immersion operation method using lavender oil. The adverse effect on human body and also on the objective lens can be drastically reduced without sacrificing the microscopic resolution. The authors expect our novel oil-immersion method can contribute to the development of histopathology and microbiological tests

Mitochondrial DNA as a biomarker for acute central serous chorioretinopathy: A case-control study

The literature suggests that stress may play a pivotal role in the precipitation of acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) because chorioretinal integrity can be affected by the psychosocial state of the patient, indicating the need for a biomarker. Not only physical stress but also psychological stress causes many types of physical disorders. However, little is known about the pathophysiology of stress-induced disease. The objective of this study was to investigate whether serum factors might be involved in the development of stress-induced ocular diseases. Methods: This observational case series included 33 eyes of 33 consecutive patients with treatment-naïve acute CSC. Fifty eyes of 50 age-matched healthy volunteers were included in this study as non-CSC controls. Serum samples were collected from all participants, and the levels of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) were measured by quantitative real-time (RT)-PCR. Serum levels of high-mobility group box (HMGB) 1 and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), biological markers of acute/chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, were also measured. The relationships between serum mtDNA, 8-OHdG, and HMGB1 concentrations were investigated by multivariate regression analysis, alongside an assessment of clinical data. Results: In the treatment-naïve acute CSC group, the serum mtDNA levels (36.5 ± 32.4 ng/mL) were significantly higher than the levels in the control group (7.4 ± 5.9 ng/mL; p < 0.001). Serum levels of 8-OHdG and HMGB1 in treatment-naïve acute CSC patients measured 0.12 ± 0.08 ng/mL and 18.1 ± 35.0 ng/mL, respectively, indicating that HMGB1 levels were elevated in CSC compared with the control group. Multivariable regression analysis demonstrated that increased serum mtDNA levels were significantly associated with the height of serous retinal detachment. Conclusion: We showed serum mtDNA and HMGB1 level elevation and its relation to the clinical activities of CSC, indicating that serum mtDNA and HMGB1 could serve as biomarkers for the acute phase of the disease. The use of these biomarkers makes it possible to predict disease onset and determine disease severity

Application of deep learning (3-dimensional convolutional neural network) for the prediction of pathological invasiveness in lung adenocarcinoma

To compare results for radiological prediction of pathological invasiveness in lung adenocarcinoma between radiologists and a deep learning (DL) system.Ninety patients (50 men, 40 women; mean age, 66 years; range, 40-88 years) who underwent pre-operative chest computed tomography (CT) with 0.625-mm slice thickness were included in this retrospective study. Twenty-four cases of adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), 20 cases of minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and 46 cases of invasive adenocarcinoma (IVA) were pathologically diagnosed. Three radiologists of different levels of experience diagnosed each nodule by using previously documented CT findings to predict pathological invasiveness. DL was structured using a 3-dimensional (3D) convolutional neural network (3D-CNN) constructed with 2 successive pairs of convolution and max-pooling layers, and 2 fully connected layers. The output layer comprises 3 nodes to recognize the 3 conditions of adenocarcinoma (AIS, MIA, and IVA) or 2 nodes for 2 conditions (AIS and MIA/IVA). Results from DL and the 3 radiologists were statistically compared. No significant differences in pathological diagnostic accuracy rates were seen between DL and the 3 radiologists (P>. 11). Receiver operating characteristic analysis demonstrated that area under the curve for DL (0.712) was almost the same as that for the radiologist with extensive experience (0.714; P=. 98). Compared with the consensus results from radiologists, DL offered significantly inferior sensitivity (P=. 0005), but significantly superior specificity (P=. 02).Despite the small training data set, diagnostic performance of DL was almost the same as the radiologist with extensive experience. In particular, DL provided higher specificity than radiologists

The environment around LAN in this junior college was drastically improved through various actions by the committee of domestic information system for a year. And so, authors want to propose policies for improving "information literacy" of students in this junior college. The students often use browser on portable telephone. They are not able to smooth input by keyboard on PC, though they are able to operate mouse on PC. There is fear such situation causes problems when students select their course after graduation. And so, authors developed "one stop portal system". It is a system they are able to access requiring information in minimum clicks, for example "information which is useful for recruiting activity" and "internal reports in this junior college," web mail which is exclusive use of the students (it is available from extramural)", and so on, and in addition, "retrieval site"available from identical page. And, authors have developed "contents available from portable telephone"and"broadcasting VOD (video on demand) system" available from ubiquitous places for 24 hours as a strategy for rising motivation of learning. Authors expect that their self-direction is demonstrated strongly by these policies

We have presented a new data indicating the hypoglycemic effect observed after the application of electric potential to our body. In order to understand the possible physiological mechanism, we have reviewed the history, principle, and application of electric potential to human body together with the physiological responses, and have found a great similarities between some annoying responses found in the first stage of electric application and the responses of our bodies to the "katsugen" activities in a chiropractic treatment called "seitai", which is a modified version of Japanese traditional massage of muscles like acupressure with a stronger physical movements
