Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) is an uncommon neoplasm of the pancreas. A rare case of spontaneous rupture of SPT is reported. A 13-year-old female felt acute abdominal pain without blunt abdominal trauma. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed a tumor in the pancreas tail with fluid collection around it. The tumor was diagnosed as SPT with hemoperitoneum associated with spontaneous rupture. The bleeding was stopped conservatively and she was referred for surgery at three months after the rupture. At that time, CT revealed a tumor 4 cm in diameter, which protruded from pancreas tail without distant metastases. Since peritoneal dissemination was not seen on intraoperative exploration, laparoscopic enucleation was performed. Pathologically, the tumor was diagnosed as SPT with rupture of the capsule of tumor, and complete resection was confirmed. The patient has been followed up for two years, and she is alive without recurrence

Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) is a hereditary tumor that can be definitively diagnosed by detection of germline mutation of the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. The HBOC Public Awareness and Management Sub-committee of the Tumor Committee, Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology carried out a fact-finding survey on the status of treatment of HBOC in Japan. The directors of medical specialty teaching facilities were notified of the questionnaire by post, with the request for one respondent per facility. The response period was from 8 July 2014 to 31 March 2015. Of the 678 facilities that were asked to compete the questionnaire, 341 (50.3%) responded. The responses are shown in the respective tables. For questions with free responses, similar answers have been grouped together, and the written answers have been freely translated. Based on these results, the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology considers that the 14 conditions, including consultations by specialist staff, must be met before risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy is carried out

Advances in cancer genome care over the past few years have included the development of gene panel testing for various biomarkers. This article summarizes issues and provides recommendations related to analytical performance evaluations for new oncology gene panels. The scope of these recommendations includes comprehensive genomic profiling assays related to gene panel testing that uses histological or serum specimens to detect gene mutations. As a research project of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development Research on Regulatory Science of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, we convened the working group committee that consisted of more than 30 experts from academia, industry, and government. We have discussed the points that should be considered to allow maximal simplification of assessments using clinical specimens in evaluating accuracy and limit of detection in equivalence and analytical performance for three years. We provide recommendations specific to each type of gene mutation as well as to reference standards or specimens used for evaluations. In addition, in order to facilitate the discussion on the analytical performance of gene panel tests by multidisciplinary tumor boards of hospitals, the present recommendations also describe the items that companies are expected to provide information on in their packaging inserts and reports, and the items that are expected to be discussed by multidisciplinary tumor boards. Our working group document will be important for participants in multidisciplinary tumor boards including medical oncologists and genome scientists, and developers of gene panels not only in Japan but also in other countries
