チンパンジーの瞬時心拍間隔を非接触で測定することに成功 --ミリ波レーダを用いた非接触バイタル測定技術の確立へ--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2023-10-18.This study proposes a method to determine the filter parameters required for the topology method, which is a radar-based noncontact method for measurement of heart inter-beat intervals. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by performing radar measurements involving both human participants and chimpanzee subjects. The proposed method is designed to enable setting of the filter cutoff frequency to eliminate respiratory components while maintaining the higher harmonics of the heartbeat components. Measurements using a millimeter-wave radar system and a reference contact -type electrocardiogram sensor demonstrate that the smallest errors that occur when measuring heart inter-beat intervals using the proposed method can be as small as 4.43 and 2.55 ms for humans and chimpanzees, respectively. These results indicate the possibility of using noncontact physiological measurements to monitor both humans and chimpanzees

Using Square Wave Input for Wireless Power Transfer

A wireless power transfer (WPT) circuit is composed of a transmitting circuit with an AC power supply and a receiving circuit with a load, and the circuits are wirelessly connected each other. Then a designer chooses the wave form of the AC power supply. Many papers about WPT adopt a sinusoidal wave as the input. The frequency of the sinusoidal wave is generally determined to the resonant frequency of the circuit for high power transfer. Since the number of circuit elements in the power supply to generate a square wave is much less than that of a sinusoidal wave, WPT with a square wave input should be treated. In fact, some papers about WPT adopt a square wave as the input, and adjust the frequency of the square wave to the resonant frequency of the circuit. In this paper, we examine how the frequency of a square wave input affects power and efficiency of WPT circuits, and propose a procedure how to determine the frequency of the input to improve power and efficiency. Finally we discuss which wave should be adopted as an input and how the frequency of the input should be determined, regardless of whether resonant phenomena occur or not

Accurate Symbolic Steady State Modeling of Buck Converter

    Get PDF
Steady state analysis is fundamental to any electric and electronic circuit design. Buck converter is one of most popular power electronics circuit and has been analyzed in various situations. Although the behavior of buck converters can be understood approximately by the well-known state space averaging method, little is known in the sense of detailed behavior or exact solution to equations. In this paper a steady state analysis of buck converter is proposed which allows the exact calculation of steady state response. Our exact solution is expressed as a Fourier series. Our result is compared with numerical calculation to be verified. Our method copes with more complicated problems such as describing average power and root-mean-square power that are most critical issues in power electronics circuit

飼育ウマの呼吸数を非接触で測定することに成功 --ミリ波レーダを用いた非接触バイタル測定技術の確立へ--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2022-08-10.This study aimed to apply radar technology to a large quadruped animal. We first developed a non-contact respiration measurement system using millimeter-wave array radar for a horse in standing position. Specifically, we measured the respiration of a stationary domestic horse in stables. Simultaneously, we measured the respiration rate using infrared thermography and developed a method for analyzing the radar information while verifying the rate of agreement. Our results suggested that the radar technology detected breathing and accurately measured the respiration of a horse, despite variation in the breathing frequency. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to apply a non-contact respiration measurement system using millimeter-wave array radar has been applied to large animals in an upright position, thereby demonstrating its potential application in animal husbandry and welfare

A General Method to Parameter Optimization for Highly Efficient Wireless Power Transfer

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a new and general method to optimize a working frequency and a load resistance in order to realize highly efficient wireless power transfer. It should be noticed that neither resonant frequency nor matched impedance maximizes efficiency of wireless power transfer circuit, in general. This paper establishes a mathematical model of a commonly used wireless power transfer circuit, and derives a mathematical expression of circuit efficiency which involves a working frequency, a load resistance and the other parameters as symbols. This enables us to find the optimal workingfrequency and load resistance. The result of this paper is compared with results by a method based on resonance and impedance matching, and then clarified by a numerical example

Local Measurement of Microwave Response with Local Tunneling Spectra Using Near Field Microwave Microscopy

We have designed and built a near-field scanning microwave microscope, which has been used to measure the local microwave response and the local density-of-states (LDOS) in the area including the boundary between the gold deposited and the non-deposited region on highly-orientated pyrolytic graphite at a frequency of about 7.3 GHz. We have succeeded in measuring the spatial variation of both the LDOS and the surface resistance. It can be observed that the surface resistance in gold deposited region with the metallic tunneling spectra is smaller than that in the non-deposited region with the U-shaped tunneling spectra.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures
