As a background for the work was used the topical need of renovation in the block of flats in the suburbs built in the 1960- and 1970´s. The renovation need applies both to the yard and the other parts of the property. The biggest need of renovation is based on the poor condition of the worn out equipment, vegetation and other parts of the yard. Furthermore the changed requirements of safety and accessibility increase the renovation need. The goal on my work was to add the comfort and attractiveness of the yard of Asunto Oy Kananlaulu. During the renovation the typical characteristics of a wooden suburb were taken into account. The present situation of the yard was estimated on site. At the same time I familiarized myself the documents of planning and subcontracting. For the background of the work the development of the building of the block of flats and their yards was investigated. Also the renovation of yards and the process of renovation was studied. The result of the work is a written report of the stages of the yard construction. The principal of the work was VRJ Pohjois-Suomi Oy. The results of the work can be utilized in high-rise yards’ renovation projects. The analyses and renovation of the yard can be linked to the development of Kaukovainio area. The results of the work gave me the possibility to develop my own skills on supervision of work at green construction

Binocular visual function after staged implantation of extended-depth-of-focus intraocular lens targeting emmetropia and -0.5 diopter: A prospective comparison

The prospective comparative case series aimed to evaluate the binocular uncorrected visual acuities (BUCVAs) after staged implantations of extended-depth-of-focus intraocular lenses (EDOF IOLs) targeting emmetropia and -0.5 diopter (D). Diffractive EDOF IOLs with an add power of +1.75 D were implanted in the first eyes targeting emmetropia or -0.5 D according to the patients' preferences, then the targets for the second eyes were determined 1 week or longer after the implantation. IOL powers were determined with the SRK/T formula. Consequently, the subjects were divided into 3 groups: those with emmetropia targeted bilaterally (group EE, 22 patients), those with -0.5 D targeted bilaterally (group MM, 21 patients), and those with monovision of emmetropia and -0.5 D (group EM, 21 patients). Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), BUCVA from 0.3 to 5 meters, spectacle use, and questionnaire regarding photic symptoms and patient satisfaction were assessed 3 months postoperatively. No significant differences were seen in the mean BUCVAs at any distance (P > 0.23), spectacle use (P = 0.13), or photic symptoms and patient satisfaction (P>0.65). When the EE and MM groups were assigned based on the MRSE, the EE group was better at 5 m (P = 0.005) while the MM group at 0.5 m (P = 0.031). The effect of different targeted refractions was not identified due to insufficient accuracy in the use of the SRK/T power calculation

Large mass dileptons from the passage of jets through quark gluon plasma

We calculate the emission of large mass dileptons originating from the annihilation of quark jets passing through quark gluon plasma. Considering central collisions of heavy nuclei at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies, we find that the yield due to the jet-plasma interaction gets progressively larger as the collision energy increases. We find it to be negligible at SPS energies, of the order of the Drell-Yan contribution and much larger than the normal thermal yield at RHIC energies and up to a factor of ten larger than the Drell-Yan contribution at LHC energies. An observation of this new dilepton source would confirm the occurrence of jet-plasma interactions and of conditions suitable for jet-quenching to take place.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures; references added, improved calculation, conclusions unchange

Multi-modality imaging for interventions in tricuspid valve disease

Several studies have demonstrated that severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has a significant negative impact on morbidity and mortality. Nowadays, several therapeutic options to treat TR are available and patients at high surgical risk can also be treated with transcatheter procedures. For the management of patients with TR, an accurate assessment of the tricuspid valve and its surrounding structures is therefore of crucial importance and has gained significant interest in the medical community. Different imaging modalities can provide detailed information on the tricuspid valve apparatus, right ventricle, right atrium, and coronary circulation which are fundamental to define the timing and anatomic suitability of surgical and percutaneous procedures. The present review illustrates the role of 2D and 3D echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, and multidetector row computed tomography for the assessment of the tricuspid valve and right heart with a particular focus on the data needed for planning and guiding interventional procedures.Cardiolog
