    Exploration of Stable Strontium Phosphide-Based Electrides: Theoretical Structure Prediction and Experimental Validation

    Inspired by the successful synthesis of alkaline-earth-metals-based electrides [Ca24Al28O64](4+) (e(-))(4) (C12A7:e(-)) and [Ca2N](+):e(-) and high-throughput database screening results, we explore the potential for new electrides to emerge in the Sr-P system through a research approach combining ab initio evolutionary structure searches and experimental validation. Through employing an extensive evolutionary structure search and first principles calculations, we first predict the new structures of a series of strontium phosphides: Sr5P3, Sr8P5, Sr3P2 and Sr4P3. Of these structures, we identify Sr5P3 and Sr8P5 as being potential electrides with quasi-one-dimensional (1D) and zero-dimensional (0D) character, respectively. Following these theoretical results, we present the successful synthesis of the new compound Sr5P3 and the experimental confirmation of its structure. Although, density functional calculations with the generalized gradient approximation predict Sr5P3 to be a metal, electrical conductivity measurement reveal semiconducting properties characterized by a distinct band gap, which indicates that the newly synthesized Sr5P3 is an ideal one-dimensional electride with the half-filled band by unpaired electrons. In addition to presenting the novel electride Sr5P3, we discuss the implications of its semiconducting nature for 1D electrides in general and propose a mechanism for the formation of electrides with an orbital level diagram based on first-principles calculations

    IgG4関連疾患は21世紀になって提唱された新しい疾患である。組織学的にはIgG4陽性形質細胞やリンパ球浸潤が涙腺, 唾液腺, 後腹膜, 膵臓, 胆管などで起こり, 臨床的にはMikulicz病, 後腹膜線維症, 自己免疫膵炎, 糖尿病, 原発性硬化性胆管炎類似の胆管病変などを呈する全身性疾患であり, ステロイド治療に対する良好な反応性を認める。その診断基準は確立されておらず, われわれは, ①血清IgG4の高値, ②本疾患に特徴的な臓器の障害(唾液腺,涙腺, 膵臓, 後腹膜), ③組織学的にIgG4陽性形質細胞とリンパ球の浸潤の確認, の3項目のうち2項目以上認めれば, IgG4関連疾患とするという診断基準を提言する。IgG4-related disease is a new concept which was established in 21st century. Histologically, infiltrations of IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes occur in the lacrimal gland, salivary gland , retroperitoneum , pancreas , and biliary tract. IgG4-related disease is a systematic disease presenting symptoms such as Mikulicz's disease, retroperitoneal fibrosis, autoimmune pancreatitis, diabetes and sclerotic cholangitis, and oral steroid therapy is effective. In this paper, we propose diagnostic criteria for IgG4-related disease that have not been established yet. If two (or more) of three following features are fulfilled, IgG4-related disease is diagnosed ; elevated levels of serum IgG4, involvement of organs which is characteristic in IgG4-related disease (salivary gland, lacrimal gland, pancreas and retroperitonium) ,histological findings with IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes

    Effect of Proteinuria and Glomerular Filtration Rate on Renal Outcome in Patients with Biopsy-Proven Benign Nephrosclerosis.

    BACKGROUND:Reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and proteinuria are risk factors for end-stage renal disease (ESRD), of which benign nephrosclerosis is a common cause. However, few biopsy-based studies have assessed these associations. METHODS:We performed retrospective cohort study of 182 Japanese patients who underwent renal biopsy from June 1985 through March 2014 and who were diagnosed with benign nephrosclerosis. Competing risk regression analyses were used to investigate the effect of eGFR and proteinuria levels at the time of renal biopsy on the risk for renal events (ESRD or a 50% decline in eGFR from baseline). RESULTS:During a median 5.8-year follow-up, 63 (34.6%) patients experienced renal events. The incidence of renal events increased with lower baseline eGFR and greater baseline proteinuria levels. After adjustment for baseline covariates, lower eGFR levels (subhazard ratios [SHRs], 1.30; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-1.67, per 10 mL/min/1.73 m2) and higher proteinuria levels (SHR, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.23-1.87, per 1.0 g/day) at the time of renal biopsy were associated independently with higher risk for renal events. Lower levels of serum albumin (SHR, 2.07; 95% CI, 1.20-3.55 per 1.0 g/dL) were also associated with renal events. Patients with both eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m2 and proteinuria ≥0.5 g/day had a 26.7-fold higher risk (95% CI, 3.97-179.4) of renal events than patients with both eGFR ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and proteinuria <0.5 g/day. CONCLUSIONS:Reduced eGFR and increased proteinuria as well as lower serum albumin at the time of renal biopsy are independent risk factors for renal events among patients with biopsy-proven benign nephrosclerosis

    Recent Status of Procedures in a Single Nationwide Cosmetic Surgery Group

    Background:. Recently, cosmetic surgery demand has increased due to the spread of promotional social media in Japan. However, understanding the overall landscape remains difficult due to many clinics with varied procedure options. To understand the current trends and status of cosmetic surgery in Japan, we analyzed large-scale data from a group of clinics throughout the country. Methods:. We analyzed data from 152,457 patients in our database. The periods from September 2018 to August 2021 and September 2021 to February 2023 were defined as the first and second periods, respectively, and the statuses of procedures were compared between the two. Results:. Eye procedures were the most common (23.6%), followed by face-lifts (19.5%) and dark circles under the eyes (10.4%). Between the first and second periods, the number of procedures in the second period (128,898 cases) was overwhelmingly higher than that in the first period (23,559 cases). Orbital fat removal for dark circles under the eyes significantly increased (OR 2.97, 95%CI 2.78–3.17); procedures in provincial cities significantly increased (Kinki/Chugoku/Shikoku: OR 2.21, 95%CI 2.08–2.36); and procedures for patients with occupations where appearance is considered important, such as nightlife businesses or being a celebrity, decreased (celebrity: OR 0.44, 95%CI 0.38–0.51, nightlife business: OR 0.58, 95%CI 0.53–0.62). Conclusions:. In Japan, cosmetic surgery has become increasingly common in recent years, and the trend has been changing over time. In the future, it will be important to organize and enhance our large-scale database to disseminate more accurate and useful information
