    Study of Hard Coral Community Structure and Natural Recruitment on Rote Island in the Sawu Sea Marine National Park (TNP)

    Rote Island and its surroundings are included in the Savu Sea Marine National Park (TNP) area and are administratively included in the Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. The waters of the area have high potential for coral reef ecosystem resources and are an important for the marine biota. But when the condition is under pressure due to anthropogenic and natural influences. Therefore it is necessary to carry out routine observations related to the condition of the community structure and its potenstial natural recruitment. Observations were made on 26-28 September 2021 at 12 observation stations. The observation method used was the belt transect method with 3 repetitions (20 m) with an area of 60 m2. Data collection using SCUBA equipment at a depth of 5-7 m on the reef flat. The results of the study found a total of 37 hard coral genera and the highest species richness was in Daiama 2 (30 genera) and the lowest was in Oelua and metina (13 genera). The dominant hard coral genera found were the Porites genera. Furthermore, the potential for natural recruitment of hard coral tillers reaches 21%. The highest potential for natural recovery is at Sotimori 1 (station 3) and the lowest at Boni (station 12). In general, the hard coral community structure at the observation site is in a stable condition with good natural recruitment potential

    The purpose of this study is to determine the number of whale sharks that come or appear in Botubarani waters during the year of 2016 - 2017 and monitor the pattern of their live behavior in the amount of days. The monitoring methods used are by (1) using photo IDs to distinguish individual types of whale sharks, (2) monitoring by looking directly / visually and recording the occurrence of whale sharks written in the seasonal calendar system and (3) using acoustic-based technology, by installing 2 (two) units of acoustic receivers at a depth of 15 meters and installing 10 (ten) acoustic signal-transmitting markers on the Whale Sharks. The study was conducted in November 2016, May and November 2017. The number of individuals of whale shark that have been identified is 21 individuals of Whale Shark in total. While the live behavior patterns of Whale Sharks who are installed with acoustic transmitter tag says that whale shark measuring more than 3.5 meters come and stay for about 10 days in the waters of Botubarani. While the Whale Sharks less than 3.5 meters in size stay for about 1 - 7 days. The results of direct whale monitoring (visual) of the pattern of live behavior of Whale Shark in the number of days of emergence during the period November 2016 to November 2017 from the data obtained are: 17 days in November 2016, 2 days in January 2017, 14 day in February 2017, 8 days in March 2017, 28 days in May 2017, 21 days in June 2017 and 2 days in July.     Bedil Island is included in the Keramat, Bedil, and Temudong Small Island Park (TPK), which was approved by the Regent of Sumbawa. Administratively, this island is included in the Labuan Bajo Village area, Sumbawa, NTB. There is the existence of coral reef ecosystems in these waters that form a reef flat and reef slope profile, that stretches to the southwest and northeast. By its designation as a small island park, the coral reefs in Bedil Island are used as an underwater tourism object. This study aims to determine the current condition of coral reef cover in the waters around Bedil Island, especially in the eastern and southern parts of the island. Coral reefs in the north and west area are limited and there is the existence of seagrass beds. The line intercept transect method is carried out by spreading the roll meter as far as 50 meters on the east and south sides of the island with a depth of 2-3 meters. The coral lifeform that is tangent with the roll meter is then recorded and then analyzed for the average percent cover, clustering status, and coral mortality index. Coral reefs in the eastern and southern parts of Bedil Island are classified as very good/excellent because they have a percent cover value above 75%. In addition, the coral mortality index value is also relatively small which indicates that the corals are living well. Clearwater conditions and locations far from human settlements are thought to be factors that support coral survival. However, the presence of dead coral algae and rubble still indicates a threat of damage even though the value is small. Algae life on the surface of dead coral also indicates that the coral has been dead for a long time

    Pelatihan Teknik Snorkelling Bagi Kelompok Masyarakat di Pantai Dondon, Desa Mertak, Kabupaten Lombok Tengah

    Pantai Dondon, Desa Mertak merupakan salah satu kawasan yang masuk dalam kawasan Teluk Bumbang dan Teluk Awang yang dikenal sebagai salah satu pusat kawasan penangkapan lobster di Pulau Lombok. Larangan penangkapan lobster yang diatur dalam Peraturan Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan Nomor 56 tahun 2016 telah menyebabkan hilangnya mata pencaharian utama masyarakat di Desa ini. Hal ini mendorong untuk diciptakannya mata pencaharian alternatif bagi masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan agar kelompok masyarakat Desa Mertak memperoleh keterampilan snorkeling dan pengamatan ekosistem bawah laut sebagai modal dalam upaya peningkatan perekonomian melalui kegiatan ekowisata bahari. Kegiatan pengabdian ini diikuti oleh 15 peserta yang merupakan gabungan masyarakat setempat dan anggota karang taruna Desa Mertak. Metode kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah penyuluhan, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan pemberian bantuan peralatan snorkelling. Kegiatan diawali dengan penyampaian materi dan diikuti dengan diskusi. Banyak permasalahan serta harapan yang disampaikan oleh para peserta terkait dengan pengembangan ekowisata di pantai Dondon. Selanjutnya, dilakukan kegiatan pengamatan ekosistem bawah laut yang merupakan kegiatan penerapan teori atau materi yang telah disampaikan sebelumnya dan memberikan gambaran bahwa kawasan ini memerlukan rehabilitasi terumbu karang. Masyarakat juga diberikan bantuan peralatan set snorkeling, pengenalan fungsi peralatan tersebut, serta teknik snorkeling yang baik dan benar. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat dimanfaatkan secara maksimal oleh peserta kegiatan sehingga dapat menjadi alternatif dalam meningkatkan taraf kehidupan perekonomia

    Limbah udang dapat diolah menjadi bahan tambahan makanan untuk menciptakan rasa baru atau sebagai penguat rasa yang berpotensi menggantikan perasa sintetik yang dijual di pasaran. Limbah ini bisa didapatkan dengan mudah dan murah, bahkan selama ini hanya dibuang begitu saja. Untuk memanfaatkan peluang ini, maka kegiatan pelatihan pengolahan limbah udang sebagai bahan tambahan makanan penting untuk dilakukan. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan ibu-ibu pesisir yang kurang produktif sebagai ide usaha untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan ekonomi keluarga. Lokasi pengabdian adalah di Desa Pemenang Barat, Kabupaten Lombok Utara yang diketahui sebagai wilayah wisata dengan kuliner laut sebagai daya tarik. Metode yang dipakai adalah melatih langsung pembuatan kaldu bubuk dan stik keju udang, kemudian dilakukan evaluasi untuk pengembangan. Hasil pelatihan adalah ibu- ibu pesisir mampu membuat sendiri olahan limbah udang setelah diberikan contoh dan ingin ada kegiatan serupa di masa yang akan datang, terutama untuk pendampingan usaha. Pendampingan usaha yang dimaksud adalah mulai dari  izin pendirian usaha, memperoleh sertifikasi halal, pengemasan yang baik serta menentukan jalur pemasaran.  Pelatihan pengolahan limbah udang hingga menjadi stik keju menjadi tambahan ilmu baru bagi ibu-ibu pesisir setempat. Proses pembuatannya yang mudah dan bahan bakunya yang murah menjadikan hal ini berpotensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi tambahan alternatif mata pencaharian yang layak mendapat dukungan dari pemerintah setempat
