The effect of childhood maltreatment on psychotherapy effectiveness in adulthood: Implications for counselors

Recent gains in understanding the effects of childhood maltreatment on the development of the brain and nervous system, combined with the revelation that nearly all psychiatric neuroimaging studies have had an unrecognized confound in childhood maltreatment, imply the possibility that psychotherapy treatment effectiveness studies have been similarly confounded by childhood maltreatment. This study examines whether treatment-seeking adults exposed to childhood maltreatment respond differently to psychotherapy than do individuals who report no history of childhood maltreatment. Response to therapy is conceptualized in this study as reduction in symptom measures pre- and post- treatment, as well as client dropout. It is hypothesized that people with a history of childhood maltreatment experience psychotherapy differently, may experience differences in symptom reduction and be more likely to drop out of treatment, than people with no history of childhood maltreatment. The current study examines psychotherapy effectiveness in symptom reduction and dropout rates of clients who experienced childhood maltreatment as compared to those with no history of childhood maltreatment

Gerenciamento de riscos operacionais em uma operadora de planos de saúde por meio da aplicação de técnicas de detecção de anomalias e análise multicritério

Considerando este cenário, o objetivo deste estudo é a apresentação e aplicação de metodologias qualitativas e quantitativas de análise de riscos em um dos principais processos organizacionais de uma operadora de planos de saúde. Especificamente, o processo avaliado é o de pagamento de contas médicas. Entre os objetivos específicos, buscou-se identificar as melhores práticas referentes à gestão de riscos. Em seguida, é realizado um diagnóstico da metodologia atual de avaliação de riscos existente na organização, com a proposta de integração das técnicas identificadas no decorrer do levantamento bibliográfico. Como resultado, há a proposta de alterações na metodologia atual utilizada na organização, cuja aplicação no processo avaliado resultou na identificação de um conjunto de riscos para tratamento. Entre estes, um dos mais críticos foi o de pagamento de cobranças abusivas em procedimentos assistenciais. Em seguida, são utilizadas técnicas de detecção de anomalias e análise multicritério para o tratamento do risco específico associado às cobranças excessivas de procedimentos assistenciais. Com a aplicação do modelo proposto para tratamento deste risco, foi possível identificar prestadores com indícios de irregularidades em suas cobranças. Considerando a escassez de recursos disponíveis para investigação de entidades suspeitas, foi elaborado um modelo de priorização de investigações, baseado no método de análise multicritério AHP – Analytic Hierarchy Process.In the healthcare market, the increasing costs associated with medical expenses are linked to a convergence of factors, arising from peculiarities in legal, social and economic contexts. Considering this scenario, the aim of this study is the presentation and application of qualitative and quantitative methods of risk analysis in one of the main business processes of a health insurance provider. Specifically, we evaluated the medical billings process. Among the specific objectives, we sought to identify the market's best practices related to risk management. This was followed by a diagnosis of the organization's current risk assessment methodology. Based on the review of available literature on the subject, there was a proposed integration of the identified techniques with the current methodology. The application of this new method for the evaluation of the existing risks in the claims processing workflow resulted in a set of risks identified for treatment. Among these, one of the most critical was the one associated with the payment of abusive healthcare service billings submitted by individual providers, related to medical visits and therapy sessions. Therefore, a new model, based on the concepts of anomaly detection, was used in order to analyze the organization's claims data, making it possible to identify a set of providers with evidence of irregularities in their submitted claims. Given the scarcity of resources available for the auditing of suspected entities, a multi-criteria analysis model was developed, designed to prioritize these investigations

Estrutura e aplicação do programa de controle médico de saúde ocupacional

Este trabalho aborda o tema Saúde Ocupacional, e buscou estudar a evolução do Programa de Controle Médico de Saúde Ocupacional em uma instituição bancária de grande porte, e como a gestão do programa afetou os indicadores que mensuram o bem-estar de seus funcionários em um determinado intervalo de tempo. Isso foi possível através da apresentação dos conceitos e normas legais relativas à saúde ocupacional, dos processos necessários para abordar questões relevantes à segurança e medicina no trabalho e o estudo desses processos, em sua forma atual, em uma empresa presente em quase todo o território nacional. As justificativas deste trabalho estão baseadas no aprofundamento do conhecimento a respeito dos conceitos ligados à saúde ocupacional e dos fatores relacionados à medicina e segurança do trabalho, que estão presentes em grande parte das organizações modernas. Ao mesmo tempo, serviu como auxílio para a entidade no sentido de fornecer uma análise do seu sistema atual do ponto de vista administrativo. Utilizouse a pesquisa bibliográfica aliada à análise documental para abordar conceitos pertinentes aos temas de saúde e qualidade de vida no ambiente de trabalho sob o ponto de vista do ramo da Administração de Recursos Humanos. Foram exploradas de forma geral as principais normas governamentais que regem as questões relacionadas à Segurança e Medicina do Trabalho dentro das organizações brasileiras, especialmente os controles e aspectos legais da NR-7, da Portaria no. 3214/78. A avaliação final considerou a empresa estudada extremamente eficaz no cumprimento de seus objetivos, entre eles a manutenção dos índices de saúde e, em certos casos, até mesmo a redução das incidências de problemas ligados a doenças e acidentes ocupacionais face à entrada de um número cada vez maior de funcionários durante o período observado

Libraries and archives collect materials from different cultures and time periods to preserve and make available the historical record. As a result, materials such as those presented here may reflect sexist, misogynistic, abusive, racist, or discriminatory attitudes or actions that some may find disturbing, harmful, or difficult to view. Both a humor and literary magazine, The Pine Needle was a University of Maine student-produced periodical that began publication in the fall of 1946, the first post-World War II semester that saw GIs returning to campus. The Needle reflected an edginess and rebellion not found in previous UMaine student publications. While past student publications relied on euphemisms for alcohol and dating on campus, The Needle overtly sexualized co-eds and discussed the use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol by students who experienced war. Cover art for this issue depicts a pen-and-ink illustration by Lloyd Shapleigh (1924-2008), of barefoot man lounging under a tree, reading an issue of New Yorker magazine with a corked jug beside his right elbow. Lloyd P. Shapleigh, Jr. was born in Bangor, Maine, graduating from high school in 1942 before joining the Army Air Corps during World War II where he qualified as MOE 867-Pathfinder technician and served as a ground crew chief with the 458 Bomb Group (H), 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force. After the war, Shapleigh used the G.I. Bill to earn Bachelor\u27s Degrees at the University of Maine and Rhode Island School of Design. Shapleigh eventually joined the industrial design team at Whirlpool where, in 1966, he conducted research testing the feasibility of household trash compaction. The trash compactor became the first new, major household appliance released by the Whirlpool corporation since before the war
