A visual feedback system for micromanipulation with stereoscopic microscope

Get PDF
A stereoscopic microscope is widely used in a micromanipulation such as to operate genes and to inspect integration circuits. As in these tasks the micromanipulation is handled and makes too heavy burden to operators, it is desirable to perform the micromanipulation automatically. In this paper, we propose a visual feedback system for micromanipulation with stereoscopic microscope. This system takes less time to control the manipulator by reducing searching area to detect an object </p

The present work consists in a study of the applicability of the Volterra series in the modelling of non-linear systems. A comparison between two of its resolution methods, the Lee-Schetzen cross-correlation method and the Laguerre expansion technique, was made in the first part, where it was concluded that the Laguerre method is more efficient for this type of system. The simulation of a SISO system, with the input and output signals being represented by respiration and ECG signals was made in the second part. The database utilized was composed by 8 individuals, divided in a healthy group and in an apneic one. The results and extracted parameters indicated that the Volterra series is a good tool for modelling this type of system, seeing that the analysis of the simulations showed physiological meaning when compared to similar studies

Tuning Neutron Resonance Spin-Echo Spectrometers with Pulsed Beams

The neutron spin-echo spectroscopy technique involving pulsed beams can be used to effectively access a wide range of space-time correlations of condensed matter. In this study, the features of this technique, in particular, the modulation of the intensity with zero effort (MIEZE) by using pulsed beams, which is based on the quantum-state manipulation of the neutron spin and energy, are comprehensively examined. A formulation of the MIEZE combined with the time of flight method (TOF MIEZE) is established by considering the characteristics of the pulsed neutron beams. Moreover, a parameter, namely, the detuning parameter, is introduced as a measure of the magnitude of detuning from the optimized instrumental state, known as the spin-echo condition. The phase and frequency shifts of the neutron intensity signals resulting from the TOF MIEZE under various configurations are investigated systematically. It is found that the detuning parameter equals the derivative of phase with respect to the TOF, whose zero-point corresponds to the spin-echo condition. The theoretical predictions on phase and frequency shifts by the established formulation are well validated by the experiments using an intense pulsed neutron source. The detuning parameter helps clarify the principle of the TOF MIEZE technique and can provide practical guidance regarding the implementation and optimization of spectrometers

This paper analyzes whether the elderly provide owner-occupied house for their children in return for long-term care from their children. In the result, I found in the region where a lot of owner-occupied house exists, the proportion of household living with the elderly and their children increase and demand for home-visit care services decrease. But I need additional verification on this hypothesis. In addition, I suggest that increase in the proportion of household living with the elderly and their children influence home-visit care market in Densely Inhabited District to a greater degree than other areas

In this paper, we surveyed actual conditions about metropolitan areas in Japan.According to the Standard Metropolitan Employment Areas (SMEAs) definition, metropolitan areas tended to growth on size and to increase the numbers from 1965 to 1995. We are able to confirm some municipalities are a part of SMEAs in the 1990s, weren\u27t included among SMEAs in the 1960s. And we estimated effect of characteristics of central city in each SMEA for the size of suburbs. Estimation results indicated that the size of central city, ratio of daytime employed persons to nighttime, and Herfindahl Index of occupations (Medium Groups) of employed persons enhance the size of suburbs. We can receive suggestions of theoretical implications in "The Spatial Economy" in recent years from these results.Last, using cluster analysis, we attempted to group 124 SMEAs by their industrial structure and occupations, divided into 16 groups

What will lead Asian consumers into circular consumption? An empirical study of purchasing refurbished smartphones in Japan and Indonesia

Although smartphones are small mini-computers, their impact on the environment is no longer small. In terms of e-waste, the challenges faced by many nations in Asia, where limited recovery and recycling practices exist, include sustainable choice and consumption habits. This study investigated the factors that affect Asian consumers behavioral intention in purchasing unbranded third-party and original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-branded refurbished smartphones, respectively. Through online surveys and analysis of a representative sample of 1200 mobile phone users in Japan and Indonesia, the findings showed that in both countries, perceived risk, consumer innovativeness, and (to some extent) price are all vital factors affecting the participation of consumers in circular consumption. The study also examined mobile phone/smartphone markets and the related legislation in Japan and Indonesia to develop field-driven hypotheses and identify the salient characteristics of the circular economy (CE) for refurbishment in both countries. In Japan, the difference in purchase intention (PI) between unbranded third-party refurbished and OEM-branded smartphones is much smaller than in Indonesia. The demand for refurbished smartphones supplied by an OEM in Indonesia is relatively higher than in Japan. The findings from this cross-cultural study can yield rich insights for CE business practitioners who seek to grasp overall patterns across the two countries and identify the salient features of each country, improving their regional marketing initiatives
