This paper describes a framework for analyzing the micro-level impacts of macroeconomic adjustment policies on health, nutrition and education. The development of the framework has drawn heavily on the existing body of economic theory and the insights obtained from the previous empirical work. Utilizing this framework enables the study to examine the existing data to determine their usefulness in assessing micro-level impacts and to establish the additional work that needs to be done to obtain the necessary information for impact assessment.MIMAP, macroeconomic adjustments, health and nutrition, education

Queering Pentecost(alism): Advocating for Inclusion of Affirming Pentecostal Congregations

    Get PDF
Modern understandings and constructions of sexuality challenge the heteronormative hegemony of most Christian denominations. Pentecostalism faces similar challenges. For LGBTIQ+ Christians, affirmative congregations have been places of refuge to counter destructive doctrines and teachings related to sexuality, marriage, membership, and participation in the church. The taxonomy of Pentecostalism typically includes four movements within Pentecostalism. I postulate a fifth type of Pentecostalism ā€”Affirmative Pentecostal Congregationsā€” which disrupts and dismantles exclusive constructions of sexuality and affirms an inclusive faith

The Impact of the Affordable Care Act on the Safety-Net. A Focus on Two Community-based Clinics Serving Latin@ Immigrants in the Greater New Orleans Region

    Get PDF
. Latin@ immigrants face many obstacles to affordable healthcare that push them to disproportionately rely on the primary safety-net for their healthcare needs. This system is mostly funded with public monies that will be significantly reduced when Affordable Care Act is fully implemented. Since undocumented Latin@ immigrants are prohibited from accessing federally funded healthcare, they will be left out of the health care reform. This thesis examines two community-based clinics in the Greater New Orleans area that serve this population, and have developed linguistically and culturally appropriate programs that address its needs. The New Orleans Faith Health Alliance and Common-Ground Health Clinic are cases used to explore the impact that the Affordable Care Act will have in the already unstable safety-net in New Orleans. Through the analysis of other models around the nation, this thesis presents viable recommendations to both clinics and the City of New Orleans Health Department

Correlation by Spectrographic Analysis of Bentonite in the Gulf Series of Dallas Area, Texas

Spectrographic determination of Si:Al and Ca:Mg ratios in bentonite from the Upper Cretaceous Eagle Ford shale of the Dallas area, Texas, indicate that variations in these ratios among different bentonite beds are significantly greater than variations within a single bed. The correlation of one bed over a distance of about 9 miles is supported by both spectrographic and stratigraphic evidence. Correlation of bentonite in the Dallas area with similar beds near Waco, Texas, 120 miles to the south, now seems possible. If so, the Eagle Ford shale might be divided into time-rock units that would be independent of paleontology
