Neutrino mixing and masses in a left-right model with mirror fermions
In the framework of a left-right model containing mirror fermions with gauge
group SU(3),
we estimate the neutrino masses, which are found to be consistent with their
experimental bounds and hierarchy. We evaluate the decay rates of the Lepton
Flavor Violation (LFV) processes , and . We obtain upper limits for the
flavor-changing branching ratios in agreement with their present experimental
bounds. We also estimate the decay rates of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the
channels , and , which are roughly equal for large values of the heavy
neutrino mass. Starting from the most general Majorana neutrino mass matrix,
the smallness of active neutrino masses turns out from the interplay of the
hierarchy of the involved scales and the double application of seesaw
mechanism. An appropriate parameterization on the structure of the neutrino
mass matrix imposing a symmetric mixing of electron neutrino with muon and tau
neutrinos leads to Tri-bimaximal mixing matrix for light neutrinos.Comment: Accepted by European Physical Journal
A note on complex plane curve singularities up to diffeomorphism and their rigidity
We prove that, if two germs of plane curves and with at
least one singular branch are equivalent by a (real) smooth diffeomorphism,
then is complex isomorphic to or to . A similar result
was shown by Ephraim for irreducible hypersurfaces before, but his proof is not
constructive. Indeed, we show that the complex isomorphism is given by the
Taylor series of the diffeomorphism. We also prove an analogous result for the
case of non-irreducible hypersurfaces containing an irreducible component of
zero-dimensional isosingular locus. Moreover, we provide a general overview of
the different classifications of plane curve singularities
Lubrication of DLC Coatings with Two Tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate Anion-Based Ionic Liquids
The lubrication of a Cr-DLC coating with ethyl-dimethyl-2-methoxyethylammonium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluoropho-sphate [(NEMM)MOE][FAP] and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrro-lidinium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate [BMP] [FAP] ionic liquids (ILs) as 1 wt% additives to a polyalphaolefin (PAO 6) was studied. Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) was also used as reference in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the ILs. Reciprocating ball-on-plate tribological tests at loads of 20 and 40 N were performed. The results showed that both ILs exhibited a friction reduction, especially at the lowest load tested. Antiwear properties were also improved; the PAO 6 + 1% [BMP][FAP] mixture was slightly better, close to the values for PAO 6 + 1% ZDDP. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicated that the additive–surface interaction was responsible for the tribological improvement
The effects of training with loads that maximise power output and individualised repetitions vs. traditional power training
Background: It has been suggested that strength training effects (i.e. neural or structural) vary, depending on the total repetitions performed and velocity loss in each training set. Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the effects of two training programmes (i.e. one with loads that maximise power output and individualised repetitions, and the other following traditional power training). Methods: Twenty-five males were divided into three groups (optimum power [OP = 10], traditional training [TT = 9] and control group [CG = 6]). The training load used for OP was individualised using loads that maximised power output (41.7% ± 5.8 of one repetition maximum [1RM]) and repetitions at maximum power (4 to 9 repetitions, or ‘reps’). Volume (sets x repetitions) was the same for both experimental groups, while intensity for TT was that needed to perform only 50% of the maximum number of possible repetitions (i.e. 61.1%–66.6% of 1RM). The training programme ran over 11 weeks (2 sessions per week; 4–5 sets per session; 3-minute rests between sets), with pre-, intermediate and post-tests which included: anthropometry, 1RM, peak power output (PPO) with 30%, 40% and 50% of 1RM in the bench press throw, and salivary testosterone (ST) and cortisol (SC) concentrations. Rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and power output were recorded in all sessions. Results Following the intermediate test, PPO was increased in the OP group for each load (10.9%–13.2%). Following the post-test, both experimental groups had increased 1RM (11.8%–13.8%) and PPO for each load (14.1%–19.6%). Significant decreases in PPO were found for the TT group during all sets (4.9%–15.4%), along with significantly higher RPE (37%). Conclusion: OP appears to be a more efficient method of training, with less neuromuscular fatigue and lower RPE.SIThe authors received no specific funding for this wor
Neutrino masses and mixing parameters in a left-right model with mirror fermions
In this work we consider a left-right model containing mirror fermions with
gauge group SU(3). The model has several free parameters which here we have
calculated by using the recent values for the squared-neutrino mass
differences. Lower bound for the mirror vacuum expectation value helped us to
obtain crude estimations for some of these parameters. Also we estimate the
order of magnitude of the masses of the standard and mirror neutrinos.Comment: 13 pages, version submitted to European Physical Journal
