Dipole-interacting Fermionic Dark Matter in positron, antiproton, and gamma-ray channels
Cosmic ray signals from dipole-interacting dark matter annihilation are
considered in the positron, antiproton and photon channels. The predicted
signals in the positron channel could nicely account for the excess of positron
fraction from Fermi LAT, PAMELA, HEAT and AMS-01 experiments for the dark
matter mass larger than 100 GeV with a boost (enhancement) factor of 30-80. No
excess of antiproton over proton ratio at the experiments also gives a severe
restriction for this scenario. With the boost factors, the predicted signals
from Galactic halo and signals as mono-energetic gamma-ray lines (monochromatic
photons) for the region close to the Galactic center are investigated. The
gamma-ray excess of recent tentative analyses based on Fermi LAT data and the
potential probe of the monochromatic lines at a planned experiment, AMS-02, are

Switching of chiral magnetic skyrmions by picosecond magnetic field pulses via transient topological states
Magnetic chiral skyrmions are vortex like spin structures that appear as
stable or meta-stable states in magnetic materials due to the interplay between
the symmetric and antisymmetric exchange interactions, applied magnetic field
and/or uniaxial anisotropy. Their small size and internal stability make them
prospective objects for data storage but for this, the controlled switching
between skyrmion states of opposite polarity and topological charge is
essential. Here we present a study of magnetic skyrmion switching by an applied
magnetic field pulse based on a discrete model of classical spins and atomistic
spin dynamics. We found a finite range of coupling parameters corresponding to
the coexistence of two degenerate isolated skyrmions characterized by mutually
inverted spin structures with opposite polarity and topological charge. We
demonstrate how for a wide range of material parameters a short inclined
magnetic field pulse can initiate the reliable switching between these states
at GHz rates. Detailed analysis of the switching mechanism revealed the complex
path of the system accompanied with the excitation of a chiral-achiral meron
pair and the formation of an achiral skyrmion
A cohort study of the associations between udder conformation, milk somatic cell count, and lamb weight in suckler ewes
A cohort study of 67 suckler ewes from 1 farm was carried out from January to May 2010 to investigate associations between udder conformation, udder half milk somatic cell count (SCC), and lamb weight. Ewes and lambs were observed at lambing. Ewe health and teat condition and lamb health and weight were recorded on 4 to 5 further occasions at 14-d intervals. At each observation, a milk sample was collected from each udder half for somatic cell counting. Two weeks after lambing, ewe udder conformation and teat placement were scored. Low lamb weight was associated with ewe SCC >400,000 cells/mL (−0.73kg), a new teat lesion 14 d previously (−0.91kg), suboptimal teat position (−1.38kg), rearing in a multiple litter (−1.45kg), presence of diarrhea at the examination (−1.19kg), and rearing by a 9-yr-old ewe compared with a 6-yr-old ewe (−2.36kg). High lamb weight was associated with increasing lamb age (0.21kg/d), increasing birth weight (1.65kg/kg at birth), and increasing number of days the ewe was given supplementary feed before lambing (0.06kg/d). High udder half SCC was associated with pendulous udders (9.6% increase in SCC/cm of drop) and greater total cross-sectional area of the teats (7.2% increase of SCC/cm2). Low SCC were associated with a heavier mean litter weight (6.7% decrease in SCC/kg). Linear, quadratic, and cubic terms for days in lactation were also significant. We conclude that poor udder and teat conformation are associated with high levels of intramammary infection, as indicated by increased SCC and that both physical attributes of the udder and SCC are linked to lamb growth, suggesting that selection of suckler ewes with better udder and teat conformation would reduce intramammary infection and increase lamb growth rate
Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Based Technology Adoption in the Construction Industry: A Cross National Perspective Using the Technology Acceptance Model
The research has chosen the workers in construction-related companies in South Korea and the United Kingdom (UK) as research subjects in order to analyse factors that influence their usage intention of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based technologies. The perceived usefulness had a positive impact (+) on technological satisfaction and usage intention in terms of the commonalities shown by the construction industry workers in both countries, South Korea and the UK, in adopting AI-based technologies. Moreover, the most remarkable differences were personal competence and social influence when choosing AI-based technologies. It was analysed that in the case of South Korea, personal competence had a positive impact (+) on perceived ease of use, whereas the UK had
a positive impact (+) on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This study holds particular significance in the domain of cross-cultural research within the construction industry. It conducts an analysis of the factors influencing the adoption of AI-driven technologies or products, with a specific focus on the cultural differences between two nations: South Korea and the UK, which represent Eastern and Western cultural paradigms, respectively
Learning a Static Analyzer from Data
To be practically useful, modern static analyzers must precisely model the
effect of both, statements in the programming language as well as frameworks
used by the program under analysis. While important, manually addressing these
challenges is difficult for at least two reasons: (i) the effects on the
overall analysis can be non-trivial, and (ii) as the size and complexity of
modern libraries increase, so is the number of cases the analysis must handle.
In this paper we present a new, automated approach for creating static
analyzers: instead of manually providing the various inference rules of the
analyzer, the key idea is to learn these rules from a dataset of programs. Our
method consists of two ingredients: (i) a synthesis algorithm capable of
learning a candidate analyzer from a given dataset, and (ii) a counter-example
guided learning procedure which generates new programs beyond those in the
initial dataset, critical for discovering corner cases and ensuring the learned
analysis generalizes to unseen programs.
We implemented and instantiated our approach to the task of learning
JavaScript static analysis rules for a subset of points-to analysis and for
allocation sites analysis. These are challenging yet important problems that
have received significant research attention. We show that our approach is
effective: our system automatically discovered practical and useful inference
rules for many cases that are tricky to manually identify and are missed by
state-of-the-art, manually tuned analyzers
Bioactive composites for bone tissue engineering
One of the major challenges of bone tissue engineering is the production of a suitable scaffold material. In this review the current composite materials options available are considered covering both the methods of both production and assessing the scaffolds. A range of production routes have been investigated ranging from the use of porogens to produce the porosity through to controlled deposition methods. The testing regimes have included mechanical testing of the materials produced through to in vivo testing of the scaffolds. While the ideal scaffold material has not yet been produced, progress is being made
Robust Multi-Image HDR Reconstruction for the Modulo Camera
Photographing scenes with high dynamic range (HDR) poses great challenges to
consumer cameras with their limited sensor bit depth. To address this, Zhao et
al. recently proposed a novel sensor concept - the modulo camera - which
captures the least significant bits of the recorded scene instead of going into
saturation. Similar to conventional pipelines, HDR images can be reconstructed
from multiple exposures, but significantly fewer images are needed than with a
typical saturating sensor. While the concept is appealing, we show that the
original reconstruction approach assumes noise-free measurements and quickly
breaks down otherwise. To address this, we propose a novel reconstruction
algorithm that is robust to image noise and produces significantly fewer
artifacts. We theoretically analyze correctness as well as limitations, and

The first report of Lasioderma Serricorne infestation on dried fish crackers in Malaysia
This paper is the first record of cigarette beetles collected from dried fish crackers (also known as “keropok ikan” in Malay) in Malaysia. The dead cigarette beetles were firstly isolated from a packet of dried fish crackers and were subsequently kept in 70% ethanol. The beetles were then identified as Lasioderma serricorne (Fabricius 1792) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae). They are common pests of stored products such as tobacco, flour, and cocoa beans but there is no record of this beetle infestation on dried fish crackers in Malaysia
Non-monotonic temperature dependent transport in graphene grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition
Temperature-dependent resistivity of graphene grown by chemical vapor
deposition (CVD) is investigated. We observe in low mobility CVD graphene
device a strong insulating behavior at low temperatures and a metallic behavior
at high temperatures manifesting a non-monotonic in the temperature dependent
resistivity.This feature is strongly affected by carrier density modulation. To
understand this anomalous temperature dependence, we introduce thermal
activation of charge carriers in electron-hole puddles induced by randomly
distributed charged impurities. Observed temperature evolution of resistivity
is then understood from the competition among thermal activation of charge
carriers, temperature-dependent screening and phonon scattering effects. Our
results imply that the transport property of transferred CVD-grown graphene is

Household and School-Level Influences on Smoking Behavior among Korean Adolescents: A Multilevel Analysis
Background: Trends in adolescent smoking rates in South Korea have not shown substantial progress due to a lack of effective anti-smoking interventions and policies in school settings. Methods and Findings: We examined individual- and school-level determinants of adolescent smoking behavior (ever smoking, current smoking, and daily smoking) using the nationally representative fifth Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey conducted in 2009. We found that students in coeducation schools or vocational high schools had greater risks of smoking for each type of smoking behavior than those in single-sex schools or general high schools, respectively even after controlling for individual-level factors. Higher family affluence and higher weekly allowances were associated with greater risks of ever smoking, current smoking and daily smoking even after controlling for parental education and other confounders. Conclusions: Whilst caution is required in interpreting results given the cross-sectional nature of the study, our findings suggest that in addition to raising the price of cigarettes, youth anti-smoking interventions in South Korea may benefit from focusing on coeducation schools and vocational high schools
