The 2016 Reactivations of Main-Belt Comets 238P/Read and 288P/(300163) 2006 VW139
We report observations of the reactivations of main-belt comets 238P/Read and
288P/(300163) 2006 VW139, that also track the evolution of each object's
activity over several months in 2016 and 2017. We additionally identify and
analyze archival SDSS data showing 288P to be active in 2000, meaning that both
238P and 288P have now each been confirmed to be active near perihelion on
three separate occasions. From data obtained of 288P from 2012-2015 when it
appeared inactive, we find best-fit R-band H,G phase function parameters of
H_R=16.80+/-0.12 mag and G_R=0.18+/-0.11, corresponding to effective component
radii of r_c=0.80+/-0.04 km, assuming a binary system with equally-sized
components. Fitting linear functions to ejected dust masses inferred for 238P
and 288P soon after their observed reactivations in 2016, we find an initial
average net dust production rate of 0.7+/-0.3 kg/s and a best-fit start date of
2016 March 11 (when the object was at a true anomaly of -63 deg) for 238P, and
an initial average net dust production rate of 5.6+/-0.7 kg/s and a best-fit
start date of 2016 August 5 (when the object was at a true anomaly of -27 deg)
for 288P. Applying similar analyses to archival data, we find similar start
points for previous active episodes for both objects, suggesting that minimal
mantle growth or ice recession occurred between the active episodes in
question. Some changes in dust production rates between active episodes are
detected, however. More detailed dust modeling is suggested to further clarify

Geographic Control of Titan's Mid-Latitude Clouds
Observations of Titan's mid-latitude clouds from the W. M. Keck and Gemini Observatories show that they cluster near 350°W longitude, 40°S latitude. These clouds cannot be explained by a seasonal shift in global circulation and thus presumably reflect a mechanism on Titan such as geysering or cryovolcanism in this region. The rate of volatile release necessary to trigger cloud formation could easily supply enough methane to balance the loss to photolysis in the upper atmosphere

This paper examines labour market behaviour of the highly skilled in high-tech local economies, taking the UK examples of Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire as case studies. It reports on data from a survey of members of three scientific institutes to compare rates of employee mobility in the two locations and considers the likely explanations and implications of those patterns
Making a Geiger Muller radiation counter
Through the design and implementation of the gamma ray detector we constructed a handheld device, powered via a 9V battery, capable of detecting primarily gamma rays, utilizing a Geiger Muller tube. In order to cause ionizing events within the gas filled chamber of the tube a high voltage was required. The output of the tube produced a current pulse that with proper manipulation was outputted to a LCD to print the Counts per Second of radiation activity. The GM tube presented our greatest difficulty in determining both what the output of the tube would look like and how reactive it would be to the radiation source. After integrating each members' subsystem, we were able to simplify our original design and package the components in a clear box, capable of being viewed from any angle, to allow high school students the opportunity to have an immersive experience
Can we respond mindfully to distressing voices? A systematic review of evidence for engagement, acceptability, effectiveness and mechanisms of change for mindfulness-based interventions for people distressed by hearing voices
Adapted mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) could be of benefit for people distressed by hearing voices. This paper presents a systematic review of studies exploring this possibility and we ask five questions: (1) Is trait mindfulness associated with reduced distress and disturbance in relation to hearing voices? (2) Are MBIs feasible for people distressed by hearing voices? (3) Are MBIs acceptable and safe for people distressed by hearing voices? (4) Are MBIs effective at reducing distress and disturbance in people distressed by hearing voices? (5) If effective, what are the mechanisms of change through which MBIs for distressing voices work? Fifteen studies were identified through a systematic search (n = 479). In relation to the five review questions: (1) data from cross-sectional studies showed an association between trait mindfulness and distress and disturbance in relation to hearing voices; (2) evidence from qualitative studies suggested that people distressed by hearing voices could engage meaningfully in mindfulness practice; (3) MBIs were seen as acceptable and safe; (4) there were no adequately powered RCTs allowing conclusions about effectiveness to be drawn; and (5) it was not possible to draw on robust empirical data to comment on potential mechanisms of change although findings from the qualitative studies identified three potential change processes; (i) reorientation of attention; (ii) decentring; and (iii) acceptance of voices. This review provided evidence that MBIs are engaging, acceptable, and safe. Evidence for effectiveness in reducing distress and disturbance is lacking however. We call for funding for adequately powered RCTs that will allow questions of effectiveness, maintenance of effects, mechanisms of change and moderators of outcome to be definitively addressed
Discovery of Dust Emission Activity Emanating from Main-belt Asteroid 2015 FW412
We present the discovery of activity emanating from main-belt asteroid 2015
FW412, a finding stemming from the Citizen Science project Active Asteroids, a
NASA Partner program. We identified a pronounced tail originating from 2015
FW412 and oriented in the anti-motion direction in archival Blanco 4-m (Cerro
Tololo Inter-American Observatory, Chile) Dark Energy Camera (DECam) images
from UT 2015 April 13, 18, 19, 21 and 22. Activity occurred near perihelion,
consistent with the main-belt comets (MBCs), an active asteroid subset known
for sublimation-driven activity in the main asteroid belt; thus 2015 FW412 is a
candidate MBC. We did not detect activity on UT 2021 December 12 using the
Inamori-Magellan Areal Camera and Spectrograph (IMACS) on the 6.5 m Baade
telescope, when 2015 FW412 was near aphelion.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
