Shifting of the magnetic resonance peak to lower energy in the superconducting state of underdoped YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.8}
Inelastic neutron scattering has been used to determine the dynamic spin
fluctuations in an underdoped high temperature superconductor YBCO_{6.8} single
crystal. The magnetic resonance, that occurs around 40 meV in overdoped
samples, is shifted to a lower energy, E_r= 34 meV. A constant ratio, , almost independent of the doping level, is found. According
to numerous theoretical approaches, this finding supports the idea that the
resonance energy is proportional (approximately twice) to the superconducting

Noise thresholds for optical cluster-state quantum computation
In this paper we do a detailed numerical investigation of the fault-tolerant
threshold for optical cluster-state quantum computation. Our noise model allows
both photon loss and depolarizing noise, as a general proxy for all types of
local noise other than photon loss noise. We obtain a threshold region of
allowed pairs of values for the two types of noise. Roughly speaking, our
results show that scalable optical quantum computing is possible for photon
loss probabilities less than 0.003, and for depolarization probabilities less
than 0.0001. Our fault-tolerant protocol involves a number of innovations,
including a method for syndrome extraction known as telecorrection, whereby
repeated syndrome measurements are guaranteed to agree. This paper is an

Lensing Effects on the Protogalaxy Candidate cB58 and their Implications for the Cosmological Constant
The amplification of the protogalaxy candidate cB58 due to gravitational
lensing by the foreground cluster of galaxies MS1512.4+3647 is quantified based
on recent ROSAT and ASCA X-ray observations. It is found that the amplification
is at most 25 for any reasonable cosmological model with or without
cosmological constant. It is also argued that the system may be used to place
new constraints on the value of the cosmological constant. The gas mass

Treatment of adult-onset Still's disease: a review
Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare inflammatory disorder that has been recently classified as a polygenic autoinflammatory disorder. The former classification, based on the disease course, seems to be quite dated. Indeed, there is accumulating evidence that AOSD can be divided into two distinct phenotypes based on cytokine profile, clinical presentation, and outcome, ie, a "systemic" pattern and an "articular" pattern. The first part of this review deals with the treatments that are currently available for AOSD. We then present the different strategies based on the characteristics of the disease according to clinical presentation. To do so, we focus on the two subsets of the disease. Finally, we discuss the management of life-threatening complications of AOSD, along with the therapeutic options during pregnancy
The Solar Neighborhood. XXVI. AP Col: The Closest (8.4 pc) Pre-Main-Sequence Star
We present the results of a multi-technique investigation of the M4.5Ve flare
star AP Col, which we discover to be the nearest pre-main-sequence star. These
include astrometric data from the CTIO 0.9m, from which we derive a proper
motion of 342.0+/-0.5 mas yr^-1, a trigonometric parallax of 119.21+/-0.98 mas
(8.39+/-0.07 pc), and photometry and photometric variability at optical
wavelengths. We also provide spectroscopic data, including radial velocity
(22.4+/-0.3 km s^-1), lithium Equivalent Width (EW) (0.28+/-0.02 A), H-alpha EW
(-6.0 to -35 A), {\it vsini} (11+/-1 km s^-1), and gravity indicators from the
Siding Spring 2.3-m WiFeS, Lick 3-m Hamilton echelle, and Keck-I HIRES echelle
spectrographs. The combined observations demonstrate that AP Col is the closer
of only two known systems within 10 pc of the Sun younger than 100 Myr. Given
its space motion and apparent age of 12-50 Myr, AP Col is likely a member of
the recently proposed ~40 Myr old Argus/IC 2391 association.Comment: 31 pages, 11 figure
Low-Reynolds number swimming in gels
Many microorganisms swim through gels, materials with nonzero zero-frequency
elastic shear modulus, such as mucus. Biological gels are typically
heterogeneous, containing both a structural scaffold (network) and a fluid
solvent. We analyze the swimming of an infinite sheet undergoing transverse
traveling wave deformations in the "two-fluid" model of a gel, which treats the
network and solvent as two coupled elastic and viscous continuum phases. We
show that geometric nonlinearities must be incorporated to obtain physically
meaningful results. We identify a transition between regimes where the network
deforms to follow solvent flows and where the network is stationary. Swimming
speeds can be enhanced relative to Newtonian fluids when the network is
stationary. Compressibility effects can also enhance swimming velocities.
Finally, microscopic details of sheet-network interactions influence the
boundary conditions between the sheet and network. The nature of these boundary
