Poster presentation of Mobile Modular Unit at the Aidex Conference in Brussels. The poster was presented inside the real scale prototype. The shelter is developed during the European sponsored S(p)eedkits project. The Eindhoven University of Technology collaborated with WRG, MSF and IFRC SRU. The shelter is rapid deployable and specifically designed for extended use and versatility in functional use. The shelter is fully calculated for a lifespan of 10 years and adaptable to climate conditions such as heavy windloads, snowloads, high sun radiation and mosquitos. The shelter has different footings for different soil types. Through the use of different add-ons the shelter can be used for multiple puposes, such as storage and medical attention

Determining the Reactivity and Oxidation Intermediates of an Allylnickel (N-Heterocyclic Carbene) Chloride Complex

The oxidation of C-H bonds to carbonyl functional groups using molecular oxygen (O2) is a desirable process as O2 is environmentally benign and inexpensive. However, oxidations that employ O2 have lower product selectivity, making it industrially unappealing. The metal complexes NiCl(π-cinnamyl)(NHC) oxidize stoichiometrically with O2 as the oxidant to selectively form the ketone and aldehyde products. This thesis details the attempted catalysis with the NiCl(π-allyl)(NHC) complex and the stoichiometric reactivity of NiCl(π-allyl)(NHC) and NiCl(π-cinnamyl)(NHC) complexes upon O2 exposure. An investigation of the intermediate and decomposition species of the NiCl(π-allyl)(NHC) complex was conducted. The complexes were found to be non-catalytic under various conditions, and the decomposition studies revealed rapid, complex reactivity. Low-temperature studies and DFT methods determined the formation of two intermediates and lead to a new proposed mechanism. The first intermediate is proposed to be an organoperoxo metallocycle, while the second is proposed to be a µ-Cl dimer structure

Naar een betere benutting van het substraat in de champignonteelt : compost als modelsystem

Dit project heeft als doel gehad een eerste stap te zetten in het maken van een model voor voeding gebaseerd op huidige compost als voeding/drager. Er is geteeld op vulgewichten van 80 to 10 kg compost/m2 (met telkens een stap van 10 kg). Dit zijn vulhoogten van 16 tot 2 cm. Voor elke vulhoogte zijn 4 kisten gevuld en de onder de helft van de kisten is een 4 cm dikke laag waterhoudende puimsteen gelegd. Bij de twee laagste vuldikten is ook een lagere dekaarde dikte gebruikt (2.5 cm i.p.v. 5 cm)
