Paravertebral extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma: a case report and review of the literature
The extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma (CME) is a rare malignant soft tissue tumour described as a distinct clinical, histological, immunohistochemical, genetical and evolutive entity. It represents only 2.5% of soft tissue sarcomas. Its individualization is important because it has a long and indolent clinical course, and tumour-related death often occurs after a long survival period. The diagnostic key is morphological supported by immunohistochemistry and genetics t (9; 22) that allow differentiating it from other tumours with myxoid stroma and from chordoma. This report describes a patient with paravertebral extraskeletal myxoid chondrosrcoma with a high locoregional extension
Numerical modelling of MPA-CVD reactors with the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method
In this article we develop a fully self consistent mathematical model describing the formation of a hydrogen plasma in a microwave power assisted chemical vapour deposition (MPA-CVD) reactor employed for the manufacture of synthetic diamond. The underlying multi-physics model includes constituent equations for the background gas mass average velocity, gas temperature, electromagnetic field energy and plasma density. The proposed mathematical model is numerically approximated based on exploiting the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. We demonstrate the practical performance of this computational approach on a variety of CVD reactor geometries for a range of operating conditions
Generalized Heisenberg algebra coherent states for Power-law potentials
Coherent states for power-law potentials are constructed using generalized
Heisenberg algabras. Klauder's minimal set of conditions required to obtain
coherent states are satisfied. The statistical properties of these states are
investigated through the evaluation of the Mandel's parameter. It is shown that
these coherent states are useful for describing the states of real and ideal
lasers.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure
Pion Structure Function in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model
The pion structure function is studied in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio (NJL)
model. We calculate the forward scattering amplitude of a virtual photon from a
pion target in the Bjorken limit, and obtain valence quark distributions of the
pion at the low energy hadronic scale, where the NJL model is supposed to work.
The calculated distribution functions are evolved to the experimental momentum
scale using the Altarelli-Parisi equation. The resulting distributions are in a
reasonable agreement with experiment. We calculate also the kaon structure
function and compare the ratio of kaon to pion valence u-quark distributions
with experiment.Comment: 15 pages with 5 figures as uuencoded postscript files, TMU-NT-930301

A major root architecture QTL responding to water limitation in durum wheat
The optimal root system architecture (RSA) of a crop is context dependent and critical for efficient resource capture in the soil. Narrow root growth angle promoting deeper root growth is often associated with improved access to water and nutrients in deep soils during terminal drought. RSA, therefore is a drought-adaptive trait that could minimize yield losses in regions with limited rainfall. Here, GWAS for seminal root angle (SRA) identified seven marker-trait associations clustered on chromosome 6A, representing a major quantitative trait locus (qSRA-6A) which also displayed high levels of pairwise LD (r 2 = 0.67). Subsequent haplotype analysis revealed significant differences between major groups. Candidate gene analysis revealed loci related to gravitropism, polar growth and hormonal signaling. No differences were observed for root biomass between lines carrying hap1 and hap2 for qSRA-6A, highlighting the opportunity to perform marker-assisted selection for the qSRA-6A locus and directly select for wide or narrow RSA, without influencing root biomass. Our study revealed that the genetic predisposition for deep rooting was best expressed under water-limitation, yet the root system displayed plasticity producing root growth in response to water availability in upper soil layers. We discuss the potential to deploy root architectural traits in cultivars to enhance yield stability in environments that experience limited rainfall.Samir Alahmad, Khaoula El Hassouni, Filippo M.
