Supersymmetric Theory and Models

In these introductory lectures, we review the theoretical tools used in constructing supersymmetric field theories and their application to physical models. We first introduce the technology of two-component spinors, which is convenient for describing spin-$1/2$ fermions. After motivating why a theory of nature may be supersymmetric at the TeV energy scale, we show how supersymmetry (SUSY) arises as an extension of the Poincar\'e algebra of spacetime symmetries. We then obtain the representations of the SUSY algebra and discuss its simplest realization in the Wess-Zumino model. In order to have a systematic approach for obtaining supersymmetric Lagrangians, we introduce the formalism of superspace and superfields and recover the Wess-Zumino Lagrangian. These methods are then extended to encompass supersymmetric abelian and non-abelian gauge theories coupled to supermatter. Since supersymmetry is not an exact symmetry of nature, it must ultimately be broken. We discuss several mechanisms of SUSY-breaking (both spontaneous and explicit) and briefly survey various proposals for realizing SUSY-breaking in nature. Fostering Collaborative Partnerships Through Clear Communication Strategies: A Foster Care Model

Children need out of home placements (foster care), due to abuse and neglect, often languishing in the foster care system for years, before returning home to a safer biological family, adoptive home, or another permanent placement. Historically the Christian church and other communities of faith have functioned as social service providers, building hospitals and orphanages, caring for people in need. City Church (Churchome) a Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. based local church story is presented in this research as a model of faith, leadership and collaboration. Chapter one describes the need, current environment, key terms, and examples of how faith-based organizations engage. Chapter two presents leading FBO’s and briefly explores the vital role and influence the African American and South African Church can play in community social concerns. Chapter three establishes a theological and historical basis for partnerships, highlighting The Trinity as the first collaboration and the idea of compound unity. Chapter four is the research methodology and potential contributions of the research. Chapter five presents research findings, critical analysis, obstacles to effective partnerships such as: lack of trust, leadership challenges, and the economics of foster care. Chapter six are recommendations for further study bringing the study to conclusion citing City Ministries Child Placement Agency as an example of how FBOs can partner more effectively. The complex needs of children in foster care are addressed by promoting well- being, stability, and successful transitions to permanency for children and families by fostering collaborative partnerships and clear communication

Although education is essentially a state function, the very nature of school attendance makes it primarily a local administrative problem. Therefore, the purpose of this study is three-fold: 1. To explore certain problems of pupil attendance on the elementary school level. 2. To identify and study problems which directly affect school attendance adversely. 3. To discover possible administrative policies which might be used in the improvement of school attendance

A Matter of Taste.

This thesis paper supports the Master of Fine Arts exhibition at the Slocumb Galleries, East Tennessee State University, from March 14th through March 18th, 2011. The exhibit is composed of nine oil paintings depicting an invented story about two characters who create a soup for a cooking competition. The show A Matter of Taste chronicles an allegory concerning the evaluation of creative works. Through Gaudie and Baudie\u27s odd recipe this work illustrates the ways in artists and art audiences interact and determine artistic value. The work is inspired by techniques in distortion and narrative painting. The following expands on the ideas, influences, techniques, and concepts that helped to create the exhibit

New Regulations for Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and New Protections for Their Franchisees

Sections 320.60 and 320.70, Florida Statutes, regulate the business relationships between motor vehicle manufacturers and their dealers. In this Article, the authors discuss the 1988 Florida Legislature\u27s reenactment and comprehensive revision of the franchise protection scheme. While some scholars have advocated discontinuing the statutory regulation of motor vehicle manufacturers and their franchisees, Ms. Haskins and Dr. Forehand take a contrary position: that extension of the regulatory scheme will provide franchisees with more protections from unfair business practices than otherwise would be available, and may have the salutary effect of injecting a degree of certainty into an area which has heretofore remained unsettled

Genealogy of today\u27s contributors to accounting research

This paper explores the intellectual roots of some of today\u27s major contributors to accounting research. Specifically, twenty-four present-day contributors were identified through their publication records and editorial service. For each of these contributors, the dissertation chairman was identified and assumed to be the primary mentor; in turn, dissertation chairmen for these individuals were also identified. Several iterations of this process produced four generations of accounting genealogy. The intellectual roots depicted in this paper highlight noteworthy linkages with members of the Accounting Hall of Fame, recipients of the Outstanding Educators Award, and with education in the discipline of economics

A Racial Impact Analysis of HB 936: Accessibility of Electronic Textbooks

The economic and social consequences of the lack of access to technology for students in the Commonwealth of Virginia are real and significant. This report provides a legislative racial impact analysis of House Bill (HB) 936, a proposed bill in the Virginia General Assembly, prohibiting school boards from making electronic textbooks available for students, unless the school board adopts a plan to ensure that e-textbooks are available on or before July 1, 2017. The bill focuses solely on developing a plan for installing prior to implementing electronic textbooks in K-12 classrooms. Electronic textbooks are important as they offer updated content, ease of accessibility, multimedia features to enhance the learning experience, and the ability for educators to customize learning. Delegating this decision to each local school board in Virginia raises important potential racial implications, including the digital divide. Previous research suggests a correlation between the number of students receiving free and reduced lunch and the lack of availability of electronic textbooks. Districts with high rates of students on free and reduced lunch have a high population of minority students. This analysis provides maps that capture the trends on the probability of providing electronic textbooks for high minority areas across the state. The primary recommendation is to advance policy approaches that make electronic textbooks available to all K‐12 students in the Commonwealth of Virginia
