A site selection methodology for CO2 underground storage in deep saline aquifers: case of the Paris Basin

    Get PDF
International audienceSite selection is a fundamental step, which can condition the success of a CO2 geological storage. A CO2 storage has to gather several targets, which can be expressed through a list of criteria. In the proposed site selection methodology, these criteria can be classified into “killer criteria” and “site-qualification criteria”, whose combinations allow identifying potential sites and the most appropriate one(s). This multicriteria methodology is applied on the PICOREF study area, located in the Paris Basin, on which potential site(s) in deep saline aquifers are investigated

When there is a lack of energy resources in the EU and it has to look for suppliers from other countries, Russia provides the world with most of the oil and gas. Diversification of energy resources is one of the objectives for the EU. The majority of international participants are interested in discovering the potential of the sea. However, the development of the region’s resources still faces many obstacles, such as lack of export pipelines, difficulties due to security of supply considerations, transit complications, political and legal considerations and market uncertainties. This study focuses on the countries of the former Soviet Union such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in Central Asia, and Azerbaijan in Transcaucasia. One of the six priority areas of the EU in the energy infrastructure of - the Southern Energy Corridor (SEC), the purpose of which is to link the Caspian basin and potentially Middle Eastern gas to Europe. In the article, we analyzed the potential of the Caspian basin in terms of energy and its impact on the energy security of the European Union. The transition to a market system of management in Russia has put a lot of tourism enterprises in a predicament when the competition forces them to look for new ways of survival, use of competitive advantages and provision competitiveness of tourism enterprises and their service. As practice shows, many Russian tourism enterprises of are not ready for active competition, for most of them, the management of competitiveness cannot be referred to and does not act as a standalone system or subsystem in the management process. Despite having a large database and various methods of comprehensive analysis of enterprises (both in Russia and abroad), statistics of tourism enterprises do not currently offer their competitiveness assessment methods. The specific questions of measuring and competitiveness forecasting in terms of competitive market of various properties are no quite adequately developed, there are no well-defined method for competitiveness forecasting of various industrial classification enterprises. The competitiveness of tourism enterprises in the terms of competitive pressure increase is increasingly predetermined by internal and external competitive advantage o territorial subject. If the formation of internal competitive advantages depends on the competitive potential of tourism enterprise, the effectiveness of its management, the formation of external advantages - on the level of competitiveness of a country, region and industry. Introduction to inverse problems for differential equations

    No full text
This book presents a systematic exposition of the main ideas and methods in treating inverse problems for PDEs arising in basic mathematical models, though it makes no claim to being exhaustive. Mathematical models of most physical phenomena are governed by initial and boundary value problems for PDEs, and inverse problems governed by these equations arise naturally in nearly all branches of science and engineering. The book’s content, especially in the Introduction and Part I, is self-contained and is intended to also be accessible for beginning graduate students, whose mathematical background includes only basic courses in advanced calculus, PDEs and functional analysis. Further, the book can be used as the backbone for a lecture course on inverse and ill-posed problems for partial differential equations. In turn, the second part of the book consists of six nearly-independent chapters. The choice of these chapters was motivated by the fact that the inverse coefficient and source problems considered here are based on the basic and commonly used mathematical models governed by PDEs. These chapters describe not only these inverse problems, but also main inversion methods and techniques. Since the most distinctive features of any inverse problems related to PDEs are hidden in the properties of the corresponding solutions to direct problems, special attention is paid to the investigation of these properties

Thermodynamic behavior of the CO2+SO2 mixture: Experimental and Monte Carlo simulation studies

    Get PDF
International audienceAccurate knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of CO2+ contaminant mixtures is required in order to develop optimized carbon dioxide capture and storage solutions. In the present work, the thermodynamic behavior of the CO2+SO2 binary system has been investigated using two different approaches: experimental measurements and molecular simulation calculations. Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data have been measured at 263 K and 333 K. The composition of both the gaseous and the liquid phases were measured by gas chromatography once equilibrium had been achieved. Molecular simulation calculations of phase equilibrium were performed on the same binary mixture under the same temperature conditions using the Gibbs Ensemble Monte Carlo method. No calibrations on experimental binary data were performed for these calculations. The experiments and simulations appear consistent as the obtained results are in excellent agreement. As a result, molecular simulation could be used as an attractive and cost-efficient alternative to experimental techniques for generating new thermodynamic data for this mixture
