    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to investigate the role that self-resilience plays as a mediator in the relationship between financial anxiety and psychological distress experienced by university students. In total, one hundred twenty undergraduate university students were sent an online invitation to take part in the research as survey respondents, and the survey instruments used were pre-tested to ensure their reliability. When the scores for respondents' financial anxiety, self-resilience, and psychological distress were compared with the characteristics of the respondents, the statistics suggest that there was no statistically significant difference. The primary finding reveals that self-resilience statistically and significantly mediated the association between financial anxiety and psychological distress, even though the effect size was relatively small. This is even though all variables were shown to have statistically significant correlations with one another. This study suggests that self-resilience can operate as a buffer against the potentially harmful impact that financial concern can have on psychological well-being. It is recommended that the university, in addition to providing continuous financial-related support to the students, provide a variety of programs on campus and off campus aimed at improving students' self-resilience. This will assist students in better managing their financial-related psychological distress

This study evaluates the current environmental influences on fish assemblages of the upper Sungai Pelus, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Fish samplings and habitat characterizations were conducted at three significant different months, which were on dry (June 2014), wet (August 2014) and moderately wet seasons (April 2015). A total of 510 individual fish were collected from the study, which consist of four orders, nine families, 20 genus and 21 species of fishes. Cyprinidae was the biggest family, followed by Bagridae, Balitoridae and Sisoridae. Neolissochilus hexagonolepis was the only species documented under the nearly threatened list, even their individual number and occurrences were the highest recorded. The readings of environmental variables, such as water temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids, biological oxygen demand and total suspended solids were regarded as normal for upper river area. However, the water turbidity and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were quite high, which we believed was due to seasonal variation and current anthropogenic activities of the nearby river area. Canonical correspondence analysis showed that the water conductivity, river width, COD and water velocity were the main factors in influencing the fish assemblages of this upper Sungai Pelus. The findings can be utilized as a guideline to manage, protect and conserve this upper river area in the near future

Internships have become crucial to help students make them stand out while at the same time providing training and work experience for the students. However, the issue of workplace aggression among internship students is increasing and is worrying many parties as it is a prevalent matter that internship students can be subjected to mistreatment in the workplace. Drawing from the Job Demand-Resource model and Conservation of Resources theory, this paper sought to identify the relationship between independent variables such as workplace bullying, interpersonal conflict, abusive supervision and anxiety among interns from the Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Puncak Alam campus who underwent internship in Klang Valley. An online questionnaire was distributed to the interns, and 128 completed sets were responded to. The results found that there were positive correlations between workplace bullying, abusive supervision and interpersonal conflict on anxiety among the interns.  The findings suggest that aggression in the workplace correlates with psychological disorders as it can cause the interns to experience psychological strain such as anxiety. In general, the research aims to contribute to a better understanding of workplace aggression and anxiety to mitigate these conundrums and foster a positive and supportive atmosphere for internship students. Furthermore, both organizations and interns need to have the knowledge and skills to prevent them from experiencing psychological illnesses. The implications of the study will be further discussed in the paper

Perceptions of Disability among University Students

    Get PDF
Perceptions of disability are important constructs that influence not only the well-being of people with disabilities but also the moral compass of society. Negative attitudes toward disability can lead to social exclusion and isolation of people with disabilities, whereas positive attitudes promote social inclusion. The present study was conducted to examine the main predictors of disability perceptions among university students, provided that understanding these factors can help develop effective interventions to improve students’ attitudes toward peers with disabilities and reduce intergroup prejudice. Using 110 responses from university students at a public university, the study found that knowledge and exposure contribute significantly to perceptions among university students. Management of the university plays a critical role in shaping positive perceptions by facilitating meaningful interactions with people with disabilities, promoting disability awareness and education, and creating an environment that values diversity

[Al-Tabari's Character in The Knowledge of Qiraat and His View of Al-Ahruf Al-Sab’ah] Ketokohan Al-Tabari dalam Ilmu Qiraat dan Pandangan Beliau Terhadap Al-Ahruf Al-Sab’ah

Imam al-Tabari's expertise in the science of qiraat can be seen in some of his views on the issues of qiraat and his style of debate on the error of qiraat in his interpretation of Jami 'al-Bayan' an Ta'wil Ay al-Qur'an. The debate of qiraat scholars on al-ahruf al-Sab'ah has been done by several scholars through the books of Ulum al-Quran and Ilmu Qiraat. However, when listing the opinions of these figures, al-Tabari's views were not discussed in depth while he had great character as al-Qurra 'as well as being famous as an al-Mufassir. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between Imam al-Tabari and the science of qiraat and the science of tafsir al-Qur’an. It also aims to study al-Tabari's expertise in the science of qiraat as well as analyze his views on the main issue in the science of qiraat which the meaning of al-Ahruf is al-Sab'ah. This information is collected and analyzed by discussing al-Tabari's views in this qiraat knowledge debate, then making a conclusion and conclusion on his views. All data were analyzed using inductive and deductive methods. The results of the study show that al-Tabari's expertise in the science of qiraat cannot be denied by anyone. However, his view in the chapter of al-Ahruf al-Sab'ah is seen to contradict the view of the majority of scholars by saying that the reading error among the qurra 'does not exclude the writing of Mushaf ‘Uthmani based on only one letter from al-Ahruf al-Sab'ah. While the remaining six letters have been dropped and it is not obligatory to do good deeds with it based on the ijma ’of the companions on the writing of the ‘Uthmani mushaf. &nbsp

Centered-gap and aligned-gap multiple split ring resonator for bio-sensing application

In general, a classical Split Ring Resonator (SRR) structure exhibits high Q-factor based on deeper and sharper transmission dips at resonance as well as produce high electric field density at the gaps. It is believed, by introducing more gaps, a strong and localized E-field will be obtained in the area between the split gaps. Based on these features, three types of rectangular multiple Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) were proposed to resonate in the frequency range of 3-7 GHz and simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio to determine the transmission characteristics and the resonance frequency. A Nicolson-Ross-Weir (NRW) technique is used to retrieve the effective parameters from the resultant S-parameter. It is shown that the resonance frequency of investigated structures falls in a frequency region in which the real part of permeability is negative. Later, the simulated results were investigated and the performances as well as the size of each unit cell itself were compared. Simulation for three different type of dielectric samples were also presented to demonstrate that the proposed structure may be well suited for bio-sensing

Beta-Lactam Infusion in Severe Sepsis (BLISS): a prospective, two-centre, open-labelled randomised controlled trial of continuous versus intermittent beta-lactam infusion in critically ill patients with severe sepsis

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine if continuous infusion (CI) is associated with better clinical and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) outcomes compared to intermittent bolus (IB) dosing in critically ill patients with severe sepsis. This was a two-centre randomised controlled trial of CI versus IB dosing of beta-lactam antibiotics, which enrolled critically ill participants with severe sepsis who were not on renal replacement therapy (RRT). The primary outcome was clinical cure at 14 days after antibiotic cessation. Secondary outcomes were PK/PD target attainment, ICU-free days and ventilator-free days at day 28 post-randomisation, 14- and 30-day survival, and time to white cell count normalisation. A total of 140 participants were enrolled with 70 participants each allocated to CI and IB dosing. CI participants had higher clinical cure rates (56 versus 34 %, p = 0.011) and higher median ventilator-free days (22 versus 14 days, p MIC than the IB arm on day 1 (97 versus 70 %, p < 0.001) and day 3 (97 versus 68 %, p < 0.001) post-randomisation. There was no difference in 14-day or 30-day survival between the treatment arms. In critically ill patients with severe sepsis not receiving RRT, CI demonstrated higher clinical cure rates and had better PK/PD target attainment compared to IB dosing of beta-lactam antibiotics. Continuous beta-lactam infusion may be mostly advantageous for critically ill patients with high levels of illness severity and not receiving RRT
