p53 and PCNA expression in benign, atypical and malignant meningiomas
Objective: Alterations: p53 genes are turning out to be the most common genetic alterations in human cancers. Due to long half-life of mutated p53, its detection is possible by immunohistochemistry. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is expressed by dividing cells, hence has been shown to correlate with prognosis. We have used monoclonal antibodies protein DO-7 (p53) and PC10 (PCNA) to see whether their expression correlates with histological grading in meningethelial tumour.Material and Methods: a Twenty nine meningiomas (20 benign, 7 atypical and 2 malignant) were selected from the records of our laboratory. p53 and PCNA expression was sought by immunohistochemistry using Peroxidase Anti Peroxidase (PAP) technique. Results: Four benign and 2 atypical meningiomas showed weak staining for p53. Both malignant meningiomas showed strong positivity for p53. Six benign meningiomas had less than 5% PCNA positivity, one 10% positivity and three showed 20% positivity. PCNA positivity ranged for 10-80% in atypical meningiomas. In two malignant meningiomas PCNA positivity was 70% and 90%.Conclusion: It is worthwhile to include p53 and PCNA expression along with histologic assessment in predicting outcome of meningiomas. A larger series with complete follow-up is essential in assessing value of these markers which unfortunately remains a dream in our country
Pengembangan Spreadsheet Untuk Perhitungan Kapasitas Baja Canai Dingin (Profil Z Dengan Stiffener, Profil I Dan O Dari Dua Profil Kanal C) Berdasarkan Sni 7971:2013
Correlation Between Branched Chain Amino Acids to Tyrosine Ratio and Child Pugh Score in Liver Cirrhosis Patients
Background: The determination of branched chain amino acids (BCAA) to tyrosine ratio (BTR) was available in making differentiation of chronic hepatitis from liver cirrhosis, because there was a strong association between BTR and staging (fibrosis) scores. Branched chain amino acids to tyrosine ratio have a correlation with Fischer ratio and the examination is easier because it can be done by enzymatic assay. Materials and Methods: To evaluate the correlation between BTR and Child-Pugh score, we examined the amino gram of 52 liver cirrhosis patients consisted of 26 Child-Pugh A, 19 Child-Pugh B, and 7 Child-Pugh C. The examination of amino gram was done by High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) analyzer. Branched chain amino acids to tyrosine ratio were compared to Child-Pugh score, albumin, ammonia level, number connection test to Fischer ratio. Results: Significant differences in BTR among Child-Pugh A, B, C were observed (Child-Pugh A 7.75 + 1.2; Child Pugh B 6.0 + 1.23 and Child Pugh C 4.38 + 3.14 (p = 0.000)). Branched chain amino acids to tyrosine ratio had a weak correlation with albumin (r = 0.292; p = 0.036), ammonia level (r = 0.376; p = 0.006) and strong correlation with Fischer ratio (r = 0.818; p = 0.000). There was no significant correlation between BTR and number connection test. Conclusion: These results showed that the determination of the molar ratio of branched chain amino acids to tyrosine well reflected the severity of liver cirrhosis and it can be used as a substitute of Fischer ratio
The Effect of the Pairing Interaction on the Energies of Isobar Analog Resonances in Sb and Isospin Admixture in Sn Isotopes
In the present study, the effect of the pairing interaction and the isovector
correlation between nucleons on the properties of the isobar analog resonances
(IAR) in Sb isotopes and the isospin admixture in Sn
isotopes is investigated within the framework of the quasiparticle random phase
approximation (QRPA). The form of the interaction strength parameter is related
to the shell model potential by restoring the isotopic invariance of the
nuclear part of the total Hamiltonian. In this respect, the isospin admixtures
in the Sn isotopes are calculated, and the dependence of the
differential cross section and the volume integral for the
Sn(He,t)Sb reactions at E(He) MeV occurring by the excitation
of IAR on mass number A is examined. Our results show that the calculated value
for the isospin mixing in the Sn isotope is in good agreement with Colo
et al.'s estimates , and the obtained values for the volume integral
change within the error range of the value reported by Fujiwara et al.
(535 MeV fm). Moreover, it is concluded that although the
differential cross section of the isobar analog resonance for the (He,t)
reactions is not sensitive to pairing correlations between nucleons, a
considerable effect on the isospin admixtures in isotopes can be
seen with the presence of these correlations.Comment: 16 pages, 5 EPS figures and 2 tables, Late
Challenges in Bridging Social Semantics and Formal Semantics on the Web
This paper describes several results of Wimmics, a research lab which names
stands for: web-instrumented man-machine interactions, communities, and
semantics. The approaches introduced here rely on graph-oriented knowledge
representation, reasoning and operationalization to model and support actors,
actions and interactions in web-based epistemic communities. The re-search
results are applied to support and foster interactions in online communities
and manage their resources
Study of Transaminases in Heroin Addicts
A recent increase in the number of drug users particularly of heroin has been noted in the community. A cross-sectional study on the level of transaminases as a representation of liver damage in drug users was done in privated hospital in Jakarta. Exclusion criteria were fever, serious illness or the multiple use of addictive drugs based on a urinary test. The hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was examined using reverse passive hemaglutination assay (RPHA) and the antibody of hepatitis C virus core-protein (anti- HCV) with dipstick anti-HCV. AST and ALT levels were determined using an automatic chemical analyzer. Of 132 patients who fulfill the criteria, 83.5 % were injection drug users (IDU). Means AST and ALT were significantly higher in IDU. Anti-HCV positive patients with increased AST and ALT were significantly higher compared to anti-HCV negative. The increase of transaminase was also consistent in injection drug users although no viral marker could be detected. In conclusion, the examination of transaminases in drug users especially IDU is important besides tests for hepatitis viral markers because there is often an increase with or without viral infection and this can be associated with hepatocellular damage
