Enhancement of thulium– ytterbium doped fiber laser efficiency using dual-pumping method

    Get PDF
Performance enhancement of laser acquired from a newly developed double-clad Yb31/Tm31 codoped fiber (YTDF) is demonstrated using dual-pumping scheme. The laser uses a 2 m long YTDF fiber with a core dopant concentrations (in wt%) of 2.00 Yb2O3, 0.5 Tm2O3, 1.0 Al2O3, and 3.00 Y2O3 as a gain medium in conjunction with a pair of fiber Bragg grating in a linear cavity resonator to generate lasing at 1901.6 nm. The best efficiency of 2.9% and the highest output power of 27 mW are obtained by combining 927 nm pump with 905 nm pump. As compared to a single pumping scheme using 927 nm pumping source, about 0.43% increment in efficiency is observed with no evidence of rollover at the highest output power. The best combination is to use 200 mW of 800 nm pump with 927 nm pump, wherein only a total pump power of 1900 mW is required to generate 20 mW of 1.9 lm laser output

The purpose of this research was to get the best formulation of mix jackfruit rags and soursop in making fruit jam. This research used Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications, followed by Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatments in this research were DS1 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 65% and soursop pulp 35%), DS2 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 50% and soursop pulp 50%), DS3 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 35% and soursop pulp 65%), DS4 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 20% and soursop pulp 80%). The result of analysis showed that the jackfruit rags and soursop significantly affected the moisture content, total acid content, total dissolved solids, sucrose content, fiber content, description of sensory test on colour, texture, flavour, taste and overall test. The best formulation of jam was DS2 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 50% and soursop pulp 50%) with moisture content 25.25%; total acid content 4.66; total dissolved solids 67.91obrix, sucrose content 54.74%; fiber content 2.85%. Description of sensory test scores of DS2 (jam with mix jackfruit rags pulp 50% and soursop pulp 50%) were colour 3.66 (yellow), taste 3.17 (taste jackfruit rags and soursop), texture 3.31 (soft) and flavour 3.83 (jackfruit rags and soursop flavour). Overall scores of DS2 were colour 4.05 (like), taste 4.05 (like), texture 4.06 (like), flavour 3.94 (like) and over all test 4.31 (like)

Neuro-fuzzy systems approach to infill missing rainfall data for Klang River Catchment, Malaysia

Rainfall data can be regarded as the most essential input for various applications in hydrological sciences. Continuous rainfall data with adequate length is the main requirement to solve complex hydrological problems. Mostly in developing countries hydrologists are still facing problems of missing rainfall data with inadequate length. Researchers have been applying a number of statistical and data driven approaches to overcome this insufficiency. This study is an application of neuro-fuzzy system to infill the missing rainfall data for Klang River catchment. Pettitt test, standard normal homogeneity test (SNHT) and Von Neumann Ratio (VNR) tests were performed to check the homogeneity of rainfall data. The neuro-fuzzy model performances were assessed both in calibration and validation stages based on statistical measures such as coefficient of determination (R2), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). To evaluate the performance of the neuro-fuzzy system model, it was compared with a traditional modeling technique known as autoregressive model with exogenous inputs (ARX). The neuro-fuzzy system model gave better performances in both stages for the best input combinations. The missing rainfall data was predicted using the input combination with best performances. The results of this study showed the effectiveness of the neuro-fuzzy systems and it is recommended as a prominent tool for filling the missing data

Talent management is one of the roles in human resources management and there has been a long debate about talent management for years. This study aims to identify the relationship between talent management and teacher leadership development. In addition, the study also analyzes the talent management and teacher leadership levels. The data are analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences Software (SPSS) version 23 and Partial Least Squares Structural (Smart PLS) version 3 are also applied to analyze the data. The survey study involves 473 teachers in Malaysia residential school. The findings reveal that talent management and teacher leadership practices were at high levels. There is a significant positive relationship between talent management and teacher leadership development. The results of the study promote the role of talent management that can lead to positive changes in teacher leadership at schools. It is hoped that through this study various stakeholders such as schools, district education offices and the ministry of education of Malaysia will be able to assist in planning and organizing efforts in order to produce good leaders in future. It is hoped that through this study, various stakeholders such as school, district education offices as well as the Ministry of Education will be able to assist in planning and organizing efforts to address the role of teacher leadership to produce highly talented future leaders at schools

Passively mode-locked laser using an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber

This paper describes the setup and experimental results for an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber laser with passively mode-locked output. The gain medium of the ring laser cavity configuration comprises a 3 m length of two-core optical fiber, wherein an undoped outer core region of 9.38 μm diameter surrounds a 4.00 μm diameter central core region doped with erbium ions at 400 ppm concentration. The generated stable soliton mode-locking output has a central wavelength of 1533 nm and pulses that yield an average output power of 0.33 mW with a pulse energy of 31.8 pJ. The pulse duration is 0.7 ps and the measured output repetition rate of 10.37 MHz corresponds to a 96.4 ns pulse spacing in the pulse train
