    Effect of magnetic field on unsteady natural convective flow of a micropolar fluid between two vertical walls

    AbstractWe study theoretically the boundary layer flow of an incompressible micropolar fluid under uniform magnetic field and motion takes place due to the buoyancy force between vertical walls. The governing unsteady boundary layer momentum, angular momentum and energy equations of micropolar fluid are nondimensionalized and solved numerically. Analytic result for steady state case is also discussed. The effects of magnetic parameter (M), vortex viscosity parameter (R), Prandtl number (Pr) and material parameter (b) on velocity, micro-rotation and Temperature profiles are discussed through several figures

    High Temperature Calibration of Thermal Imagers for Infrared Measurements on Military Platforms

    Calibration of thermal imaging system is not a straight forward process and hence manufacturers suggest re-calibration at factory itself. However, it is time consuming and expensive. A few research papers refer various approaches to perform low temperature calibration considering the wide requirement of low temperature measurements (typically less than 150 °C). However, no reference is available in open literature about high temperature calibration of thermal imagers. Hence, the possibility of high temperature calibration of thermal imaging systems has been explored using high temperature blackbody sources available at laboratory. With the use of neutral density filters, calibration has been performed in mid-wave (3.7 μm - 4.8 μm) and long-wave (7.7 μm - 9.5 μm) bands of imagers for IR measurements. The developed calibration has also been tested for field measurements

    The experimental findings suggests that SEEDTEC 2324 proved superior over other cultivars for increasing yield of winter maize and application of 240 kg N/ha was found most suitable for achieving higher yield and profitability of winter maize in eastern Uttar Pradesh conditions. Further investigations are required to bring yields of QPM cultivars at par with the best normal endosperm cultivars

    Clobetasol propionate cream 0.025%: a topical therapeutic for dermatological disorders

    Due to the anti-inflammatory and vasodilator effects of topical corticosteroids, they help in treating atopic eczema, psoriasis, chronic hand eczema, and localized vitiligo, among other dermatological diseases. Clobetasol propionate (CP) is the most popular topical medication used to treat plaque psoriasis. It has anti-inflammatory, antimitotic, antipruritic, and immunosuppressive characteristics. The USFDA has approved CP 0.025% cream for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis in adults. Propylene glycol, short-chain alcohols, and sorbitol-based emulsifiers are all recognized contact allergens, and the formulation has exhibited hypoallergenic effects. CP 0.025% is an effective and safe agent due to its high active ingredient penetration and minimal systemic absorption. The clinical experience of employing CP 0.025% cream in diverse dermatologic disorders is discussed in this case series, with a focus on its efficacy and safety

    Spin-gravity coupling and gravity-induced quantum phases

The phases are exact to first order in the background gravitational field, are manifestly covariant and gauge invariant and provide a useful tool for the study of spin-gravity coupling and of the optics of particles in gravitational or inertial fields.     Analysis of BAC-end sequences (BESs) and development of BES-SSR markers for genetic mapping and hybrid purity assessment in pigeonpea (Cajanus spp.)

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Pigeonpea [<it>Cajanus cajan </it>(L.) Millsp.] is an important legume crop of rainfed agriculture. Despite of concerted research efforts directed to pigeonpea improvement, stagnated productivity of pigeonpea during last several decades may be accounted to prevalence of various biotic and abiotic constraints and the situation is exacerbated by availability of inadequate genomic resources to undertake any molecular breeding programme for accelerated crop improvement. With the objective of enhancing genomic resources for pigeonpea, this study reports for the first time, large scale development of SSR markers from BAC-end sequences and their subsequent use for genetic mapping and hybridity testing in pigeonpea.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A set of 88,860 BAC (bacterial artificial chromosome)-end sequences (BESs) were generated after constructing two BAC libraries by using <it>Hin</it>dIII (34,560 clones) and <it>Bam</it>HI (34,560 clones) restriction enzymes. Clustering based on sequence identity of BESs yielded a set of >52K non-redundant sequences, comprising 35 Mbp or >4% of the pigeonpea genome. These sequences were analyzed to develop annotation lists and subdivide the BESs into genome fractions (e.g., genes, retroelements, transpons and non-annotated sequences). Parallel analysis of BESs for microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) identified 18,149 SSRs, from which a set of 6,212 SSRs were selected for further analysis. A total of 3,072 novel SSR primer pairs were synthesized and tested for length polymorphism on a set of 22 parental genotypes of 13 mapping populations segregating for traits of interest. In total, we identified 842 polymorphic SSR markers that will have utility in pigeonpea improvement. Based on these markers, the <it>first </it>SSR-based genetic map comprising of 239 loci was developed for this previously uncharacterized genome. Utility of developed SSR markers was also demonstrated by identifying a set of 42 markers each for two hybrids (ICPH 2671 and ICPH 2438) for genetic purity assessment in commercial hybrid breeding programme.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In summary, while BAC libraries and BESs should be useful for genomics studies, BES-SSR markers, and the genetic map should be very useful for linking the genetic map with a future physical map as well as for molecular breeding in pigeonpea.</p

    ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF PALMAROSA CULTIVATION IN INDIA

    ABSTRACT Cymbopogon martinii, commonly known as palmarosa, is an essential oil-bearing crop cultivated by the farmers for production of oil used in perfumery, cosmetics and flavour industries. The study on the economics of palmarosa cultivation has shown that the major portion of operational cost was shared by human labour, distillation charges and preparation of nursery. Total variable cost was found to be 47926 per hectare per year. The gross returns were found to be 124000 per hectare e per year. The net returns over variable cost were 76074 per hectare. The benefit-cost ratio was found to be 2.59 indicating a higher profit to the farmers. The independent variables like human labour, planting material and distillation charges were positive indicating significant impact on the returns from the crop. There is need for effective market intelligence system to ensure remunerative price of the produce to the farmers

    Synthesis and down conversion emission property of Eu3+ doped LaAlO3 CsAlO2 and LiLaO2 phosphors

    [EN] LaAlO3:Eu3+, CsAlO2:Eu3+ and LiLaO2:Eu3+ phosphors with varying concen- trations of Eu3+ from 3 to 10 mol% were prepared by combustion synthesis method and the samples were further heated to 1,000ºC to improve the crystallinity of the materials. The structure and morphology of materials have been examined by X-ray diffraction and scan- ning electron microscopy. SEM images depicted that the morphology of crystallites have no uniform shapes and sizes. Small and coagulated particles of irregular shapes of different sizes are obtained. The characteristic emissions of Eu3+ were clearly observed at nearly 580, 592, 650, 682 to 709 (multiplet structure) nm for 5D - 7 Fn transitions where n = 0, 1, 3, 4 respectively, including the strongest emission peaks at 614 and 620 nm for 5 D0 - 7 F2 transitions in CsAlO2:Eu3+ and LiLaO2:Eu3+ host lattices. The intensity of emission peak corresponding to 5 D0 !&#8594; 7 F1 transitions in LaAlO3 :Eu3+ material is comparable to that of 5D0 5D-7F2 transitions which is also a singlet. Photoluminescence intensity follows the order as in LiLaO2 > LaAlO3 > CsAlO2 lattices.
