Enabling Radiation Tolerant Systems for Space

    Get PDF
A hazard to all spacecraft orbiting the Earth is the existence of a harsh environment with its subsequent effects. The effects can provide damaging or even disabling effects on spacecraft and its instruments. One of the most recognized and serious of the different space environments is ionizing radiation and its effects on spacecraft and spacecraft systems. This is increasingly becoming more of an issue for all missions due to the use of lighter composite materials, smaller satellites, and smaller electronics. NASA's Space Environments and Effects (SEE) Program was established to develop new plateaus of technical capability to reduce the cost of NASA's missions and provide leading-edge exploratory and focused technology to promote continued U.S. preeminence in space. The SEE Program has an "Implementation Plan" to develop roadmaps and fund technical tasks to enable radiation systems for space

Growth and Reproduction in the Ouachita Madtom (Noturus lachneri) at the Periphery of its Distribution

The Ouachita madtom (Noturus lachneri) occurs primarily in drainages of the upper Saline River and in a few small tributaries to the Ouachita River in Arkansas, USA. We collected specimens by hand and by use of aquarium dipnets on 29 occasions from 20 October 1999 through 25 July 2000 in Cooper Creek, presently a feeder creek into Lake Catherine on the Ouachita River. Total length was measured, reproductive attributes were noted, and individuals were released at the capture site (with exception of 3 gravid females retained to assess fecundity). We recognized 2 age (size) classes during most of the year based on a plot of length-frequency distributions. Regression of total length against time indicated a mean growth rate of 0.14 mm/day for the population, and 0.20 mm/day for juveniles during warmer months. Hatchlings were found from 27 June through 4 November

God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good. I was fortunate to grow up in a home where we were taught about Jesus and grew to love Him. My parents are both pillars of faith in the foundation of my life, and for that I am grateful

Extracting and Applying SV-SV Shear Modes from Vertical Vibrator Data Across Geothermal Prospects Final Report

This 3-year project was terminated at the end of Year 1 because the DOE Geothermal project-evaluation committee decided one Milestone was not met and also concluded that our technology would not be successful. The Review Panel recommended a ?no-go? decision be implemented by DOE. The Principal Investigator and his research team disagreed with the conclusions reached by the DOE evaluation committee and wrote a scientifically based rebuttal to the erroneous claims made by the evaluators. We were not told if our arguments were presented to the people who evaluated our work and made the ?no-go? decision. Whatever the case regarding the information we supplied in rebuttal, we received an official letter from Laura Merrick, Contracting Officer at the Golden Field Office, dated June 11, 2013 in which we were informed that project funding would cease and instructed us to prepare a final report before September 5, 2013. In spite of the rebuttal arguments we presented to DOE, this official letter repeated the conclusions of the Review Panel that we had already proven to be incorrect. This is the final report that we are expected to deliver. The theme of this report will be another rebuttal of the technical deficiencies claimed by the DOE Geothermal Review Panel about the value and accomplishments of the work we did in Phase 1 of the project. The material in this report will present images made from direct-S modes produced by vertical-force sources using the software and research findings we developed in Phase 1 that the DOE Review Panel said would not be successful. We made these images in great haste when we were informed that DOE Geothermal rejected our rebuttal arguments and still regarded our technical work to be substandard. We thought it was more important to respond quickly rather than to take additional time to create better quality images than what we present in this Final Report

THE SECURITY DILEMMA IN (SUPRA)GEOPOLITICS GREAT POWER POLITICS IN THE CREATION OF SPACE FORCES

There seems to be a common perception that outer space is a politically different or a realm separate from Earth. However, space is not a place that is uniquely free of humanity’s fears and interests. This thesis examines the development of Space Forces in the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, the United States, and France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Utilizing the theory of Neorealism, this thesis argues that each country perceived a level threat-based competition that compelled the development of specially designated Space Command in each national military structure. It will argued that the threat perception stems from the increase in digitized military operations and high-tech advances in traditional weaponry as well as the threat of space asset weaponization that have effectively launched terrestrial geopolitical concerns into orbit.Master of Art

    UC-364 Step Up

Step Up is a website designed to let users enter their information and calculate a step count to aid them in losing weight. Each user creates an account to store their data. This information will include necessary variables to calculate their step count using their target weight loss. The step count provided by Step Up considers the number of steps a user between the ages of 19 to 40 must make over three months to reach their goal. Step Up allows users to receive email reminders to keep their information up to date. Administrators of Step Up have the option to download anonymous user data for further research into the method behind Step Up\u27s calculations
