Lymph Node Fibroblastic Reticular Cells Construct the Stromal Reticulum via Contact with Lymphocytes
The sophisticated microarchitecture of the lymph node, which is largely supported by a reticular network of fibroblastic reticular cells (FRCs) and extracellular matrix, is essential for immune function. How FRCs form the elaborate network and remodel it in response to lymphocyte activation is not understood. In this work, we established ERTR7+gp38+VCAM-1+ FRC lines and examined the production of the ER-TR7 antigen. Multiple chemokines produced by FRCs induced T cell and dendritic cell chemotaxis and adhesion to the FRC surface. FRCs can secrete the ER-TR7 antigen as an extracellular matrix component to make a reticular meshwork in response to contact with lymphocytes. The formation of the meshwork is induced by stimulation with tumor necrosis factor-α or lymphotoxin-α in combination with agonistic antibody to lymphotoxin-β receptor in a nuclear factor-κB (RelA)–dependent manner. These findings suggest that signals from lymphocytes induce FRCs to form the network that supports the movement and interactions of immune effectors within the lymph node
Data-driven Exploration of New Pressure-induced Superconductivity in PbBiTe with Two Transition Temperatures
Candidates compounds for new thermoelectric and superconducting materials,
which have narrow band gap and flat bands near band edges, were exhaustively
searched by the high-throughput first-principles calculation from an inorganic
materials database named AtomWork. We focused on PbBiTe which has the
similar electronic band structure and the same crystal structure with those of
a pressure-induced superconductor SnBi2Se4 explored by the same data-driven
approach. The PbBiTe was successfully synthesized as single crystals
using a melt and slow cooling method. The core level X-ray photoelectron
spectroscopy analysis revealed Pb2+, Bi3+ and Te2- valence states in
PbBiTe. The thermoelectric properties of the PbBiTe sample were
measured at ambient pressure and the electrical resistivity was also evaluated
under high pressure using a diamond anvil cell with boron-doped diamond
electrodes. The resistivity decreased with increase of the pressure, and two
pressure-induced superconducting transitions were discovered at 3.4 K under
13.3 GPa and at 8.4 K under 21.7 GPa. The data-driven approach shows promising
power to accelerate the discovery of new thermoelectric and superconducting
materials
High abundance ratio of CO to CO toward photon-dominated regions in the Orion-A giant molecular cloud
Aims. We derive physical properties such as the optical depths and the column
densities of CO and CO to investigate the relationship between
the far ultraviolet (FUV) radiation and the abundance ratios between CO
and CO.
Method. We have carried out wide-field (0.4 deg) observations with an
angular resolution of 25.8 arcsec ( 0.05 pc) in CO (=1--0) and
CO (=1--0) toward the Orion-A giant molecular cloud using the
Nobeyama 45 m telescope in the on-the-fly mode.
Results. Overall distributions and velocity structures of the CO and
CO emissions are similar to those of the CO (=1--0) emission.
The optical depths of the CO and C18O emission lines are estimated to be
0.05 1.54 and 0.01
0.18, respectively. The column densities of the CO and CO
emission lines are estimated to be 0.2 10
3.7 10 cm and 0.4 10 3.5 10 cm, respectively. The abundance
ratios between CO and CO, /,
are found to be 5.7 - 33.0. The mean value of / in the nearly edge-on photon-dominated regions is found to be 16.47
0.10, which is a third larger than that the solar system value of 5.5.
The mean value of / in the other regions is
found to be 12.29 0.02. The difference of the abundance ratio is most
likely due to the selective FUV photodissociation of CO.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, Accepted to A&
