    Three-loop HTLpt thermodynamics at finite temperature and chemical potential

    In this proceedings we present a state-of-the-art method of calculating thermodynamic potential at finite temperature and finite chemical potential, using Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) up to next-to-next-leading-order (NNLO). The resulting thermodynamic potential enables us to evaluate different thermodynamic quantities including pressure and various quark number susceptibilities (QNS).     Hypoxic Culture Conditions as a Solution for Mesenchymal Stem Cell Based Regenerative Therapy

    Cell-based regenerative therapies, based on in vitro propagation of stem cells, offer tremendous hope to many individuals suffering from degenerative diseases that were previously deemed untreatable. Due to the self-renewal capacity, multilineage potential, and immunosuppressive property, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are considered as an attractive source of stem cells for regenerative therapies. However, poor growth kinetics, early senescence, and genetic instability during in vitro expansion and poor engraftment after transplantation are considered to be among the major disadvantages of MSC-based regenerative therapies. A number of complex inter-and intracellular interactive signaling systems control growth, multiplication, and differentiation of MSCs in their niche. Common laboratory conditions for stem cell culture involve ambient O-2 concentration (20%) in contrast to their niche where they usually reside in 2-9% O-2. Notably, O-2 plays an important role in maintaining stem cell fate in terms of proliferation and differentiation, by regulating hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) mediated expression of different genes. This paper aims to describe and compare the role of normoxia (20% O-2) and hypoxia (2-9% O-2) on the biology of MSCs. Finally it is concluded that a hypoxic environment can greatly improve growth kinetics, genetic stability, and expression of chemokine receptors during in vitro expansion and eventually can increase efficiency of MSC-based regenerative therapies.Article Link: http://www.hindawi.com/journals/tswj/2013/632972

    The Implication of Misstatement to Retained Earning Based on SAK

    This study examines the implications of misstatement to retained earnings based on Financial Accounting Standards (SAK). It takes manufacturing companies in Indonesia as case study. The study found several misstatements such as misstatements on receivables, taxes on prepaid rent, rent, depreciation, account payable, interest loan, and classification of loan. The results of the study found that the implications of misstatement is the decline in retained earnings by 26%. Misstatements that are not recorded will cause the financial statements to be unreliable. Accountants must update themselves to the development of SAK and the role of higher education is necessary to produce competent graduates who are able to identify and know the effects that will arise on the misstatement.     Keywords: misstatement, Financial Accounting Standards, retained earnin

    Clinical features and outcome of surgery in 30 patients with acromegaly

    Objective: To assess the surgical outcome of hypophysectomy in acromegalic patients, differences in response to surgery in micro and macroadenoma and the development of associated hormonal deficiency after surgery. Methods: Retrospective analysis of charts of acromegalic patients who were operated upon at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, was done. Information regarding presentation, laboratory data, radiological assessment, details of surgery and postoperative outcome was recorded. Surgical outcome was classified depending on the degree of disease control after surgery as biochemical cure, remission and treatment failure. Results: Out of 30 patients, eighteen (60%) were males and 12 (40%) females with mean age at the time of diagnosis 35.6+/-10.4 years. The mean duration of symptoms was 3.2+/-2.4 years. Twenty-five patients had macroadenoma and five had microadenoma. Preoperative mean GH level was 42.4 ng/ml with range of 2.5 to 534 ng/ml. Following surgery, 13 had biochemical cure, 4 were in remission and 13 failed to respond. The outcome in microadenoma was better than in macroadenoma i.e. 100% vs. 32%. Preoperatively four patients had panhypopituitarism with additional six patients (20%) developing hypopituitarism postoperatively. Conclusion: Our study showed that acromegaly was seen at a much earlier age, outcome of surgery was comparable to other international studies and postoperative panhypopituitarism was seen in significant number of patients. The outcome in microadenoma was better than in macroadenoma but the number of patients seen with microadenoma was small

    Power Quality has been said a set of electrical boundaries of the electrical supply provided under normal operating condition that allow equipment to function in its rated condition without significant loss of performance and life expectancy that do not disturb or disrupt the consumers\u27 process. Performance degradation results when the electrical power supplied to equipment is deficient. Thus power quality improvement is the main concern of present era. The problems of power quality are rising exponentially from the last few decades due to the rising demand for power and the need for their improvement is indeed a big question. The main power quality problems such as voltage sags and swells, power interruptions (short and long), voltage spike, harmonic distortion, noise have led to financial losses. To avoid huge losses and to overcome the above mentioned problems, power electronics has evolved with its new types of devices known as Custom Power Devices which are being reviewed in this paper

    Three-dimensional modulation instability of dust-ion-acoustic waves and rogue waves in warm nonthermal magnetized plasmas

    A theoretical investigation has been made to study the modulation stability/instability of three-dimensional dust-ion-acoustic wave packets in the warm magnetized complex plasma system in the presence of nonthermal distributed electrons and positrons species. The set of equations describing our plasma system has been reduced to a (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation by using the reductive perturbation method that is valid for finite but small amplitude limits. It is observed that both nonlinear and dispersive coefficients of (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation are significantly modified by the external magnetic field and transverse velocity perturbation. The regions of stable and unstable for the modulated dust-ion-acoustic waves have been examined numerically. Moreover, the dependence of modulation instability and rogue waves on the relevant plasma parameters is discussed.
