(DIPF/Orig.)To what extent can learning tasks be developed for the in-company part of dual training that tie in with the learners’ everyday experiences in the company and at the same time enable sustainability-oriented spaces for perception, reflection, and design? Possible answers to this question are provided by an open learning task concept that was developed in the context of the NaReLe pilot project in the domain of the food industry. (DIPF/Orig.

Diehl P, Hantke B, Hennig M, et al. Protein expression of MMP-13, uPA, and PAI-1 in pseudocapsular and interface tissue around implants of loose artificial hip joints and in osteoarthritis. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE. 2004;13(5):711-715.Matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP-13), urokinase type plasminogen activator (uPA), and plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) have been reported to be involved in aseptic loosening of artificial hip joints. This study for the first time presents the protein levels of all of these factors in synovial-like interfaces between bone and prosthesis and in pseudocapsular tissues surrounding the artificial joint in patients with aseptic loosening (n=17) measured by ELISA. No differences were observed in the antigen expression of MMP-13, uPA, and PAI-1, comparing interface and pseudocapsular tissue. Also, no significant correlation between the protein expression of these factors and years from arthroplasty to revision or to type of fixation (cemented vs. cementless) was observed. As control, MMP-13, uPA, and PAI-1 antigen levels were also determined in the synovium of patients with osteoarthritis (n=10). Yet, the antigen levels of MMP-13, uPA, and PAI-1 in tissue specimens from patients with aseptic loosening of artificial hip joints were significantly higher compared to their expression in synovial capsular tissues obtained from patients with osteoarthritis. In conclusion, this study shows that elevated protein levels of uPA, PAI-1, and MMP-13 in periprosthetic pseudocapsular and interface tissues from patients after total hip replacement due to aseptic loosening seem not to be associated with the patient outcome

The INTERSPEECH 2020 Computational Paralinguistics Challenge: elderly emotion, breathing & masks

The INTERSPEECH 2020 Computational Paralinguistics Challenge addresses three different problems for the first time in a research competition under well-defined conditions: In the Elderly Emotion Sub-Challenge, arousal and valence in the speech of elderly individuals have to be modelled as a 3-class problem; in the Breathing Sub-Challenge, breathing has to be assessed as a regression problem; and in the Mask Sub-Challenge, speech without and with a surgical mask has to be told apart. We describe the Sub-Challenges, baseline feature extraction, and classifiers based on the ‘usual’ COMPARE and BoAW features as well as deep unsupervised representation learning using the AUDEEP toolkit, and deep feature extraction from pre-trained CNNs using the DEEP SPECTRUM toolkit; in addition, we partially add deep end-to-end sequential modelling, and, for the first time in the challenge, linguistic analysi

Hantke B, Lahmann C, Venzke K, et al. Influence of flavonoids and vitamins on the MMP- and TIMP-expression of human dermal fibroblasts after UVA irradiation. PHOTOCHEMICAL & PHOTOBIOLOGICAL SCIENCES. 2002;1(10):826-833.UV irradiation leads to distinct changes in skin connective tissue by degradation of collagen, for example. Many of these alterations in the extracellular matrix are mediated by MMPs (matrix metalloprotemases) with reduced content of their antagonist TIMPs (tissue inhibitors of metalloprotemases). Potential candidates to reduce MMP activity in the skin after solar stimulation were examined. The influence of vitamin C, vitamin E and the flavonoids AGR (alpha-glucosylrutin) and 8-prenylnaringenine on the MMP and TIMP expression was, investigated. Human dermal fibroblasts were incubated with these additives and irradiated with UVA [10 J cm(-2)]. The gene expression of MMP-1 (collagenase-1) and TIMP-1, the protein expression of MMP-1, MMP-2 (gelatinase-A), TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 as well as the enzyme activity of MMP-1 and MMP-2 were examined. AGR and vitamins C and E were shown to reduce NIMP expression and activity, whereas 8-prenylnaringenine appeared to be responsible for the opposite effect. None of the substances considerably influenced the TIMP levels. AGR represented the most effective additive in reducing the collagenase protein expression to 60% and may be useful to level out the MMP activity in the skin after sun exposure. Furthermore, no protein expression of MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-12 and MMP-13 could be detected
