    Determination of shear support capacity of transfer beam with varied section

    In the RC structure with transfer beam, if the beam is fixed with the column under the transfer layer, it will cause very big reaction of the support at the supporting point and can cause the serious breaking because the section of the transfer beam is very big. It’s not easy to make the section big for the whole length, so I studied about how to applicate the transfer beam with varied section to increase the capacity by changing the section of the beam around the supporting point. In this thesis, I suggested the formulars of the shear capacity of transfer beam with varied section by using the program ABAQUS

    A unique bleeding-related complication of sorafenib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report

    INTRODUCTION: Sorafenib, a multikinase inhibitor as a standard of care for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, may lead endothelial cells to an unstable state by blocking the signaling pathway of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor, which may result in the disruption of the architecture and integrity of the microvasculature, and eventually increase the risk of hemorrhage. Hemobilia is a relatively uncommon condition as a consequence of hepatocellular carcinoma and its risk factors remain uncertain. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we report a unique case of hemobilia occurring in a 55-year-old Korean man with hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma on Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer advanced stage after seven days of treatment with sorafenib. He had received prior radiation therapy. Endoscopy revealed bleeding from the major duodenal papilla and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography revealed an amorphous filling defect throughout the common bile duct. Blood clots were removed by balloon sweeping and a nasobiliary drainage tube was placed. No further bleeding has been detected as of eight months after discontinuation of sorafenib. CONCLUSION: Sorafenib may increase the risk of biliary bleeding in hepatocellular carcinoma patients who were primed with irradiation, by blocking the signaling pathway of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor. Therefore, sorafenib should be used with caution in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, especially when combined with radiation therapy

    Experimental Study on Electromagnetic Forming of High Strength Steel Sheets with Different Dimensions of Aluminum Driver Plate

    Recently, the potential of the electromagnetic forming process has been introduced to form the shallow longitudinal reinforcement ribs in the lateral walls of roll formed parts, made of high strength steel sheets of 340MPa tensile stress grade [1]. However, it seems that the application may not be easy for high strength steel sheet because of its high tensile strength and low electric conductivity. In order to overcome this difficulty, aluminum driver plate could be considered to enhance the formability of high strength steel sheets in the electromagnetic forming process. In this paper, in order to investigate the effect of aluminum driver plate on forming height of high strength steel sheet in electromagnetic forming process, DP780 workpiece sheets were formed into a hemi elliptical protrusion shape with Al1050 driver plate of various thicknesses and sizes. Experiments were performed with a flat spiral coil actuator connected to an electromagnetic forming system. The results, the aluminum driver plate helps to increase the forming height of high strength steel sheets. In addition, the forming height of high strength steel sheet increases as the thickness and size of a driver plate increases

    Structural and optical properties of position-retrievable low-density GaAs droplet epitaxial quantum dots for application to single photon sources with plasmonic optical coupling

    The position of a single GaAs quantum dot (QD), which is optically active, grown by low-density droplet epitaxy (DE) (approximately 4 QDs/ÎĽm2), was directly observed on the surface of a 45-nm-thick Al0.3Ga0.7As capping layer. The thin thickness of AlGaAs capping layer is useful for single photon sources with plasmonic optical coupling. A micro-photoluminescence for GaAs DE QDs has shown exciton/biexciton behavior in the range of 1.654 to 1.657 eV. The direct observation of positions of low-density GaAs DE QDs would be advantageous for mass fabrication of devices that use a single QD, such as single photon sources.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    Development of Barley Cultivars for Animal Forage in Korea

    In Korea, the domestic consumption of barley as a cereal crop has been decreasing since the 1980s. It has been considered that crop production in the winter-season rice fields could enhance the global competitiveness of domestic livestock industry by providing better quality fodder to livestock and enhancing field use rate. Therefore, the purpose of barley cultivation for cereal food production has been recently replaced by the production of the barley for forage use. Consequently, the area of barley cultivation for forage is markedly increasing in Korea. While any type of barley can be used as forage for feeding cattle, whole crop barley delivers a higher dry matter yield than conventional feed barley.     Open reduction of zygoma fractures with the extended transconjunctival approach and T-bar screw reduction

    Background Zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures mostly occur in the form of tripod fractures. The surgical field is accessed using a combination of three classic approaches. However, the subciliary incision may have unfavorable aesthetic results. Herein, the authors report the advantages of the extended transconjunctival approach (ETA) combined with T-bar screw reduction in minimizing scarring and complications for the treatment of ZMC fractures. Methods A total of 26 patients underwent ZMC reduction through the ETA and intraoral approach. A skin incision measuring roughly 5 to 8 mm in length was placed following the lateral canthal skin crease. After releasing the inferior crus of the lateral canthal tendon for canthotomy, the medial periosteum of the lateral orbital rim was preserved for canthal reattachment. A limited subperiosteal dissection and partial relaxing incision of the orbicularis oculi were performed to expose the fracture line of the inferior orbital rim and zygomaticofrontal suture. Reduction was performed using a T-bar screw through the transconjunctivalincision and an elevator through the intraoral incision. Results The aesthetic and functional results were excellent. Successful reduction was achieved and the skin incision was less than 8 mm in 20 cases (76.9%). Only six patients had an additional skin incision (less than 5 mm) to achieve reduction. No cases of ectropion, entropion, or excessive scarring were noted. Conclusions The ETA using a T-bar screw is a useful method for maximizing aesthetic results in ZMC fractures, with the advantages of minimal scarring, faster recovery, and maintenance of pretarsal fullness
