    Eisenhart Lift of 22--Dimensional Mechanics

    The Eisenhart lift is a variant of geometrization of classical mechanics with dd degrees of freedom in which the equations of motion are embedded into the geodesic equations of a Brinkmann-type metric defined on (d+2)(d+2)-dimensional spacetime of Lorentzian signature. In this work, the Eisenhart lift of 22-dimensional mechanics on curved background is studied. The corresponding 44-dimensional metric is governed by two scalar functions which are just the conformal factor and the potential of the original dynamical system. We derive a conformal symmetry and a corresponding quadratic integral, associated with the Eisenhart lift. The energy--momentum tensor is constructed which, along with the metric, provides a solution to the Einstein equations. Uplifts of 22-dimensional superintegrable models are discussed with a particular emphasis on the issue of hidden symmetries. It is shown that for the 22-dimensional Darboux--Koenigs metrics, only type I can result in Eisenhart lifts which satisfy the weak energy condition. However, some physically viable metrics with hidden symmetries are presented.Comment: 20 page

    It has been observed that a reduction in the amount of physical activity involved in daily life has a negative impact on physical fitness. In order to improve fitness, appropriate exercise methods should be selected according to the needs of each person. Therefore, measurement and assessment is important for analyzing the physical fitness of the individual. The purpose of this study was to examine physical fitness in college women, comparing students over a period of five years - from 2007 to 2011. The results indicated that the height of students at Doshisha Women\u27s College of Liberal Arts significantly increased from 2007 to 2011, but that there were no significant changes in body weight or percentage of body fat. Further, there was a significant decrease in the vertical jump and the standing position anteflexion. Thus, the results suggest that college women have become weaker in muscle power and flexibility. Therefore, the prescription for daily physical activity or training content should be determined on the basis of the assessment of individuals.論文 (Article

    Prevalence of Masked Obesity Associated with Lifestyle-Related Habits, Dietary Habits, and Energy Metabolism in Japanese Young Women

    We investigated the prevalence of Masked Obesity (MO) and the correlations between MO and lifestylerelated habits (e.g., exercise habits, dieting habits), dietary habits, energy metabolism, and seasons. The subjects were 131 young Japanese college students. Body composition was measured by bioelectrical impedance method and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) was measured by an indirect calorimeter. Subjects with a BMI in the normal range (n=110) were divided into the MO (percentage of body fat to Body Weight [BF]≥30%) and control (C) (BF<30%) groups. Dietary energy and nutrient intakes were calculated from weighed dietary records. A questionnaire on lifestyle habits was obtained individually from the subjects. The percentage of MO was 32% of subjects within normal BMI. The prevalence of MO was the highest in winter, probably due to accumulation of body fat as an adaptation to cold. The MO group had low Fat-Free Mass (FFM) and high BF. RMR of the MO group was significantly lower than that of the C group. The MO group tended to have poor exercise habits, more dieting (restricting calorie intake) experiences and consumed a diet with less vegetables and beans. We concluded that the prevalence of MO was 32%; it was the highest in winter for subjects who had high fat and low FFM. This fact may be due to poor exercise, more dieting experiences and insufficient intake of vegetables and beans. Furthermore, this accumulation of body fat may be partly due to low RMR

    本研究は、看護基礎教育におけるプレパレーションに関する文献を検討し、現状と課題を明らかにすることを目的とした。医学中央雑誌で「プレパレーション」「教育」をキーワードに過去10 年間の論文を検索し14 文献を対象とした。分析の結果、プレパレーション教育は講義、演習、実習、またそれらを組み合せ教授されていた。学生は、講義でプレパレーションの意義と方法、演習では設定された事例に身を置くことで子どもの特性やプレパレーションの工夫等を学んでいた。実習では、患児との関わりで心を突き動かされ、看護の価値を実感していた。学生は、身体を通した学びを得ていたと考えられ、学生が自身で問い、感じ、考えることができる授業が重要であることが示唆された。また、教員は学生の内側で起こっている体験を不断に知ろうとする努力が必要である。さらに、プレパレーション教育は小児看護の重要な要素を学ぶ教育として位置づけられると考える

    Antisynthetase syndrome: Pulmonary computed tomography findings of adult patients with antibodies to aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases

    AbstractObjectivesTo describe the pulmonary CT findings in patients with anti-ARS-antibody-positive interstitial lung disease (anti-ARS-ILD)MethodsThe CT findings of 64 patients with anti-ARS-ILD were retrospectively reviewed. The images were retrospectively reviewed independently by 2 chest radiologists, and the final decision on the CT findings was made by a third chest radiologist.ResultsThere were 16 male and 48 female patients, aged 54.2±13.4 years. Sixteen patients had anti Jo-1, 24 had anti-EJ, 9 had anti-PL-7, 7 had anti-PL-12, 5 had anti-KS, and 3 had anti-OJ antibodies. Overall, 63 patients (98.4%) had CT findings predominantly in the lower lobe; 61 patients (95.3%) showed peripheral opacities, and 47 patients (73.4%) showed peribronchovascular opacities. Ground-glass attenuation, consolidation, and reticulation showed similar distribution patterns. Regarding detailed CT findings, 89.1% of patients had lower volume loss, 76.6% had interlobular septal thickening, and 67.2% had thickening of bronchovascular bundles. The final radiologic diagnoses were as follows: inconsistent with usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) in 63 patients (98.4%), which included nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) in 35 patients (55.6%), organizing pneumonia (OP) in 4 patients (6.3%), and OP with fibrosis in 22 patients (34.9%).ConclusionsThe characteristic CT findings of patients with anti-ARS-ILD were areas of ground-glass attenuation and reticulation, predominantly distributed as lower and peribronchovascular lesions, which is compatible with NSIP.     CD19-dependent B lymphocyte signaling thresholds influence skin fibrosis and autoimmunity in the tight-skin mouse

    金沢大学大学院医学系研究科血管分子科学The tight-skin (TSK/+) mouse, a genetic model for human systemic sclerosis (SSc), develops cutaneous fibrosis and autoantibodies against SSc-specific target autoantigens. Although molecular mechanisms explaining the development of fibrosis and autoimmunity in SSc patients or TSK/+ mice remain unknown, we recently demonstrated that SSc patients overexpress CD19, an important regulatory molecule expressed by B lymphocytes. B cells from CD19-deficient mice are hyporesponsive to transmembrane signals, while B cells overexpressing CD19 are hyperresponsive and generate autoantibodies. In this study, TSK/+ B cells also exhibited a hyperresponsive phenotype with decreased surface IgM expression, enhanced serum Ig production, and spontaneous autoantibody production. Moreover, CD19 tyrosine phosphorylation was constitutively augmented in TSK/+ B cells. CD19-mediated [Ca2+]i responses, Vav phosphorylation, and Lyn kinase activity were similarly enhanced. Studies of TSK/+ mice deficient in CD19 expression demonstrated that CD19 deficiency significantly decreased skin fibrosis in TSK/+ mice. Additionally, CD19 loss in TSK/+ mice upregulated surface IgM expression and completely abrogated hyper-γ-globulinemia and autoantibody production. CD19 deficiency also inhibited IL-6 production by TSK/+ B cells. Thus, chronic B cell activation resulting from augmented CD19 signaling in TSK/+ mice leads to skin sclerosis possibly through IL-6 overproduction as well as autoimmunity

    The linkage between medical student readiness for interprofessional learning and interest in community medicine

    Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between medical student readiness for interprofessional learning and interest in community medicine prior to incorporating community-oriented interprofessional education into the curriculum. Methods: A questionnaire was administered to students at Nagasaki University School of Medicine in Japan during each of three consecutive years (N=2244). The Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) was administered in addition to a questionnaire to evaluate interest in community medicine. The Kruskal-Wallis and Steel-Dwass tests were used to determine differencesbetween school years. Correlation between the RIPLS score and interest in community medicine was evaluated with Spearman\u27s rank correlation coefficient. Relationships between RIPLS score and demographic parameters, and interest in community medicine were evaluated with multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Eighty-four percent (1891/2244) of students responded. The RIPLS score was highest in school year 1, followed by year 6, year 5,year 3, and years 4 and 2. Interest in community medicine correlated with the RIPLS score (rs = 0.332, p < 0.001),but less in year 1 (rs = 0.125, p = 0.002) than in other years. RIPLS score was significantly associated with gender, age, school year, interest in community medicine, but not the year that the survey was conducted. Conclusions: Community-oriented interprofessional education has the potential to improve attitudes towards interprofessional learning. When introducing this promising education into the curriculum from year 1, attracting students\u27 interest in community medicine should be considered

    Effects of die- and punch-shaped electrode on formation of the intermetallic compound for Fe/Al resistance spot welding

    Resistance spot welding has recently been proposed for joining steel and aluminum alloys to reduce the weight and increase the strength of automobile bodies. However, joining Fe and Al results in the formation of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) at the joining interface. A thick IMC layer reduces the joint strength, but it is difficult to control the IMC layer thickness. Therefore, in this study, a joining process that simultaneously achieves resistance heat generation and plastic deformation using die- and punch-shaped electrodes in resistance spot welding equipment is developed. The formation state and extent of IMCs for this process are investigated. The formation state of IMCs is evaluated experimentally for various electrical currents. Numerical simulations are conducted to calculate the temperature variation of the joining interface for various currents. It is found that the IMC is thin at the center of the joint and thick and spike-shaped at the edge of the joint. Furthermore, the cross-tension strength is found to increase with increasing electrical current. The stable formation of IMCs at the center of the joining interface is considered to be due to an increase in temperature in this region with increasing current. Joints with high cross-tension strength form spike-shaped IMCs with differences in thickness. It is considered that the spike-shaped IMCs create a snagging effect, enhancing the strength of the joint interface

    A preliminary survey of Seinura spp. was conducted in the Kyoto area, Western Japan. The survey yielded four new strains of Seinura spp., including two strains of S. caverna, a strain of S. italiensis, and a strain of an undescribed species. Molecularly, the two strains of S. caverna were nearly identical to the type strain but showed some minor variations, particularly in the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene. The small subunit and D2-D3 large subunit sequences of the Japanese strain of S. italiensis were nearly identical and identical to its original description, respectively, and the difference in the small subunit was due to mis-reading of the sequences. The new species, S. shigaensis n. sp., was phylogenetically close to S. caverna and S. persica, although these three species were clearly different phylogenetically. The new species was typologically similar or nearly identical to several other Seinura spp., including S. chertkovi, S. christiei, S. italiensis, S. steineri, and S. tenuicaudata, but it can be distinguished from those species by the morphometric values. Because the new species is phylogenetically very close to S. caverna, it could be a good comparative system for S. caverna as a potential satellite model for the predatory nematode
