İlköğretim Öğrencilerinin Bilim Merkezindeki Davranışlarının İncelenmesi

The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school students’ behaviors at science centers and determine the factors influencing their behaviors. The sample of the study consists of 63 primary school students, 32 female and 31 male, who were selected among those visiting a science center situated in Ankara. This study was guided by Naturalistic Inquiry described by Guba & Lincoln (1989). The sample of the study consists of 63 elementary school students, 32 female and 31 male, who were selected among those visiting a science center situated in Ankara. The analysis of data revealed that the subjects of the study stopped 317 times in front of the exhibits and interacted with them at different levels. Participating students were observed as very active during their free time in the science center like running from one exhibit to another. The findings of the study indicate that the priority of the students is to make sure that the exhibit is functional rather than understanding the facts and concepts behind the exhibit.Bu çalışmanın amacı, bilim merkezini gezen ilköğretim birinci kademe öğrencilerinin öğretmen ya da merkezde görevli eğitmenlerin kontrolü olmadan serbest zaman dilimindeki davranışlarını incelemek ve bu davranışları etkileyen faktörleri araştırmaktır. Ankara İli'nde bulunan bir bilim merkezini ziyaret eden öğrenciler arasından seçilen 32’i kız ve 31’i erkek olmak üzere toplam 63 ilköğretim birinci kademe öğrencisi ile bu çalışma yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmada Guba & Lincoln(1989) tarafından tanımlanan Doğalcı Araştırma Modeli (Naturalistic Inquiry) kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin toplam 317 kez etkinliklerin önünde durdukları ve farklı düzeylerde etkileşimlerde bulundukları belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin bilim merkezinde geçirdikleri serbest zaman diliminde oldukça hareketli oldukları, bir deney setinden diğer deney setine koştukları tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin önceliğinin deney setlerinde verilmek istenen bilgi ve kavramın anlaşılmasından ziyade, deney setinin işlevsel olmasını sağlamak olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır

Investigation of Elementary School Students' Perceptions about "Soil"

Soil is one of the most important non-renewable natural resources. Because of its' vital importance in terms of production, economics and ecology, it is important to understand how people perceive soil. According to studies in the field of education, values and attitudes begin to emerge during elementary school years. The aim of this study is toj investigate fourth grade students' perceptions about the concept of soil through metaphors. One hundred and three 4th grade students from two elementary schools participated in this study. Findings revealed that most commonly used metaphors for soil are mother, sand and home. Aging Education In Elementary Textbooks

The aim of this study is the examination of primary school textbooks as to how they cover the issues of elderly people and aging education. The study is a qualitative one wherein the method of document analysis has been used. A total of twelve primary school textbooks have been examined /analyzed within the scope of this study. For evaluation, a measurement system consisting of 8 themes and their constituent subthemes has been implemented. At the end of the study it has been concluded that primary school textbooks do not cover the subject of elderly people and aging education adequately and that the books contain negative representations of the elderly. It is thereby concluded that in order to ameliorate the attitudes of the students towards elderly people (and in order to cultivate in them an acceptance of their own aging), it is necessary to incorporate elderly people and aging education in primary schools and textbooks. Disability in Elementary School Textbooks

WOS: 000440293500006This study investigated the representation of disabled people in the textbooks of elementary school Life Science, Social Science and Science and Technology courses. In this study, 12 textbooks published by Ministry of National Education in Turkey during the academic year of 2011-2012 were examined using content analysis. Findings of this study revealed that representation of disabled people in visuals and texts in elementary school textbooks was limited. Significant findings from the study results also show that the vast majority of individuals affected by disability are children and physically handicapped, and that over half of them are accompanied by unhindered peers. The individuals, affected by inadequacy and vast majority of whom consist of children, are usually located outside the school. Texts and visuals largely supported each other in the textbooks examined. Individuals affected by disability should be fully integrated into textbooks as well with social and educational life

Preservice Science Teachers' Ability to Identify Good Teaching Practices

Teacher practice course plays a vital role in preservice teacher education. As a part of this course, preservice teachers are expected to observe classroom dynamics and to practice the theoretical framework and skills they were taught during the three years of their education. The use of videos can be a useful instructional tool to present different cases to preservice science and technology teachers. However, one aspect of the effectiveness of this approach relies on preservice teacher's ability to recognize strength and weaknesses of teaching practices. Examine Preservice Elementary School Teachers' Perceptions About Soil Science During Community Service Learning

The purpose of this study is to examine preservice elementary school teachers' perceptions about the topic of soil through attending "Soil Science School" as part of the Community Service Practices Course. Qualitative method was used for data analysis. In line with obtained results, it has been observed that the perceptions of preservice electuary school teachers consist of 3 main themes in the form of "Soil Knowledge", Impact of the Soil Science School", "Cooperation of the Faculties of Education and Agriculture".Wo
