    Get PDF
N,N’-bis(3-methoxysalicyl)-p-phenylenediimine Schiff base was prepared from the interaction of ethanolic solution of 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde and p-phenylenediamine. The Cu (II) Schiff base complex was synthesized from aqueous solutions of CuCl2.2H2O and ethanolic solution of N, N’-bis(3-methoxysalicyl)-p-phenylenediimine. The Cu (II) Schiff base complex decomposed at 280oC. The ligand is soluble in most common organic solvents except nitro benzene. The Cu (II) Schiff base complex is insoluble in most solvents except DMF and DMSO. The molar conductance value of Cu (II) Schiff base complex is 7.8 ohm-cm2mol-1. The empirical formula of the metal Schiff base compound determined is [CuL].2H2O. The spectral data of the ligand and its Cu (II) complex compound were used to characterize the complex. The dissociation constant of the Schiff base (pKa) determined is 10.23. The stability constant of Cu (II) Schiff base complex was found to be 3.55 x 106. Keywords: Schiff base, 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde, p-phenylenediamine, Stability constant

Learning activities can be carried out in or outside the classroom. Learning outside the classroom, such as field observations, is an excellent learning activity. This paper discusses the development of a field observation practicum guide for bird bioecology Megapodius reinwardt. The goal is to develop and assess the feasibility of the developed practical guide, the process of scientific literacy, and the critical thinking skills of prospective biology teacher students through three stages: define, design, and develop. Data collection through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive quantitative. An average of 77% obtained the results of the practical guide validation, which means worthy. The process of scientific literacy of prospective biology teacher students, on average, obtains a good predicate. User response is positive, so it is suitable for use as a bioecological Field Observation Guide Megapodius reinwardt for the literacy process scientific and thinks student critical biology teacher candidate

The people of NTB have many distinctive cultures and cuisines. The use of plants is traditional medicine. This study aims to develop practical guidelines based on the medicinal plant sasambo, NTB. Development design is Research & Development with a 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). The results of laboratory experiments are outlined in practicum guidelines for student activities. Chemistry lecturers in chemistry and natural product chemistry constructively validate the procedures. The analytical method uses Aiken's V formula and percentage agreement. The results of the expert validation show that the practicum guidelines meet very valid criteria with an Aiken value of 0.86. The guidelines also received positive responses from students and expert validators with an average practicality level of 88.6% with very practical criteria. Guidelines can be applied to learning with a percentage agreement of 100%. The cultural richness applied to learning can increase motivation learning and encourage students to be creative in developing products from the Sasambo milk medicinal plant

Development and validation of a critical thinking measurement instrument based on Megapodidae reinwardt bird ecotourism

Critical thinking skills are important in sharing aspects of life in the current and future era of globalization and information. An important aspect of critical thinking is literacy. Literacy abilities within the scope of Natural Sciences refer to scientific literacy. The critical thinking test results show that students' critical thinking components must still be developed. This paper discusses developing and validating a critical thinking measurement instrument for prospective science-biology teacher students based on Megapodidae bird ecotourism. The aim is to develop and assess the validity, reliability, and characteristics of critical thinking skills instruments so that they can be used to measure critical thinking skills in Science-Biology prospective teacher students. Product development in the form of critical thinking skills test instruments in Biology learning for prospective teacher students at FKIP Unram. Instrument development is carried out in four steps: identifying indicators, developing collection items, making validity checks, and improving item quality. Instrument validation is by a learning expert from FKIP Unram. Essay form questions consist of 21 items with difficulty levels at medium and high levels. The results of expert validation analysis using Aiken's V method for each aspect are classified as valid with a value of 0.79. The instrument developed can be used as a valid and reliable measure of critical thinking ability

The study aims to explore the attitudes of science teacher candidates towards indigenous science-based science learning. This study is an exploratory research conducted in three study programs that provide science teacher education, namely Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Education with 53 research subjects. This study uses a research instrument in the form of a closed questionnaire with answers using a Likert scale and has been validated by experts. The research data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics and inferential statistics Anova test and t-test. The results of this study are (1) the attitude of students in the biology education study program has an average score of 3,29 in the Good category, physics education is 3,00 in the Good category, and chemistry education is 3,13 in the Good category; (2) the attitude of male students has an average score of 3,21 in the Good category and 3,28 for women in the Good category; (3) there is no significant difference in the attitudes of students of biology, chemistry, physics education study programs towards indigenous science-based science learning in songket cloth motifs, as evidenced by the significance value of the Anova test of 0,507>0,05; (4) there is no significant difference in the attitudes of male and female students towards indigenous science-based learning in the songket cloths motifs, as evidenced by the significance value of the t-test of 0,455>0,05

This study aims to explore the perceptions of prospective science teacher students regarding creative thinking abilities. This study is an exploratory research with research subjects as many as 14 biology education students. The research instrument used is a closed questionnaire which has been developed referring to indicators of creative thinking abilities, namely fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. The questionnaire has answers using a Likert scale that has been validated by experts and declared valid. This research data was analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with the Anova test. The results of this research are (1) biology education students have an average perception score regarding creative thinking abilities, namely the Fluency indicator is 2.52 in the Tall category, Flexibility is 2.61 in the Tall category, Originality is 2.63 in the Tall category, and Elaboration of 2.67 in the Tall category; (2) there is no significant difference in students' perceptions of creative thinking abilities on the indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration, as evidenced by the results of the Anova test with a significance value of 0.719>0.05

Design of a framework to promote physical activity for the elderly

Physical inactivity is estimated to be one of the leading risk factors for global mortality and it is associated with several illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and various types of cancers. To tackle this issue and promote physical activity amongst the elderly, a system that computes automatically, in real-time, the score of a Boccia game was developed. The objective of this paper is to infer the best design possible for the User Interface (UI) that displays this information. To achieve this, two surveys were conducted involving 45 participants. In the first survey, the participants were asked what features they would like to see in the UI. Based on these remarks, the authors designed an UI, along with several variations. The preferences between these variations were afterwards evaluated in the second survey. Thus, the final design of the UI was validated before being shown to the elders. This article is a result of the project Deus ex Machina: NORTE – 01 – 0145 – FEDER - 000026, supported by Norte Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
