The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of graded levels of crude glycerine addition to diets on growth and economic performance, carcass yield, organ weights and moisture levels of meat in broiler chickens. For this purpose, a total of 270 one day old male chicks (Ross 308) were randomly divided into 3 equal groups which fed with isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets with graded levels (0%, 5% and 10%, respectively) of crude glycerine. Each of experiment group was constituted by 5 subgroups with 18 birds each. The birds had ad libitum access to feed and water until termination of the experiment at d 42. Results indicated that 5% dietary crude glycerine addition improved body weight, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio compare with birds fed with basal diet at d 42 (P<0.01). Similarly, dietary 10% crude glycerine supplementation also increased growth performance and improved FCR in broiler chickens at 28th and 42nd days of experiment (P<0.05 and P<0.001, respectively). Moreover, birds fed with 5% dietary crude glycerine had showed over 20% higher relative economic efficiency compare than birds fed basal diet. As a conclusion, dietary crude glycerine addition improved growth and economic performance and Feed Conversion Ratio of broilers in both supplementation levels

Castleman's disease (CD) (angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia) is a rare lymphoproliferative disease of unknown etiology. On rare occasions it is the cause of a solitary neck mass. Definitive diagnosis and treatment is possible with complete surgical resection. This report describes a case of this disorder of the hyalinovascular type as a solitary neck mass in a 35- year-old woman. The patient was treated by surgical excision

An Adaptive Network-Based Fuzzy Inference System for Estimating the Duration of Medical Services: A Case Study

    No full text
The aim of this study is twofold. First one is to derive a feasible numerical prediction model for the duration of medical services in a medical institution that could be used by the hospital management within their quality assurance and improvement processes. The second aim is to develop a freeware software tool, which implements an adaptive artificial neural network-based fuzzy inference system with a user-friendly interface that can be effectively used by both technical and non-technical people. Some promising results have been obtained which show that both of these objectives have been successfully achieved to some extent

WOS: 000294601400013This study was carried out in order to determine the effects of various study doses of mycorrhiza treatment on morphological characteristics and color quality of tomato seedlings (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) which are grown under 100 nM salinity stress. Two different types of tomatoes "Aspendos F-1" and "Donna F-1" were used in this study. Mycorrhiza treatment was performed by using ROOTS-novozymes endo-mycorrhiza fungus (VAM) to obtain 10, 50 and 100 mycorrhiza plants(-1). VAM treatment prevented the decrease in the length of the plants caused particularly by high level soil salinity, both in Aspendos and Donna species. In both species, the height of the plants which are grown under salt+M50 and salt+M100 conditions became bigger than the control plants and the plants grown under salt conditions. Furthermore, high mycorrhiza treatment also increased the weight of fresh stem and root but had no particular affect on dry stem and root. While chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll quantities of the mycorrhiza treatment with M50 and M100 doses grown under salt conditions were found to be high in comparison to control and salt treatment, carotenoid level was found to be low. Conclusively, mycorrhiza treatment to tomato seedlings which are grown under salt conditions was caused to have seedlings grown by preventing negative effects of salt, and provided a high quality growth and which kept the green color of the seedlings

WOS: 000281511100022In this study, the effects of salt stress on pigment and total soluble protein contents were investigated in different varieties of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). The seedlings of L. esculentum viz. Hazera, Dalli Tokat and Argy were treated with NaCl at 25, 50, 100, 125, 150 and 200 mM concentrations for 96 h with 24 h interval. Pigment and total soluble protein contents of all tomato cultivars were significantly decreased by salt stress depending on time intervals and salt concentrations. Decreasing of pigment and total soluble protein contents were more evident in Hazera under short time salt exposure. Pigment content of Argy plants were less affected by salt concentration and exposure time. The results of this study suggest that the Argy cultivars are relatively better protected under salt stress conditions than Dalli tokat and Hazera cultivars

Abstract Objective: This study aims to compare three different surgical approaches for combined coronary and carotid artery stenosis as a single stage procedure and to assess effect of operative strategy on mortality and neurological complications. Methods: This retrospective study involves 136 patients who had synchronous coronary artery revascularization and carotid endarterectomy in our institution, between January 2002 and December 2012. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to the surgical technique used. Group I included 70 patients who had carotid endarterectomy, followed by coronary revascularization with on-pump technique, group II included 29 patients who had carotid endarterectomy, followed by coronary revascularization with off-pump technique, group III included 37 patients who had coronary revascularization with on-pump technique followed by carotid endarterectomy under aortic cross-clamp and systemic hypothermia (22-27ºC). Postoperative outcomes were evaluated. Results: Overall early mortality and stroke rate was 5.1% for both. There were 3 (4.3%) deaths in group I, 2 (6.9%) deaths in group II and 2 (5.4%) deaths in group III. Stroke was observed in 5 (7.1%) patients in group I and 2 (6.9%) in group II. Stroke was not observed in group III. No statistically significant difference was observed for mortality and stroke rates among the groups. Conclusion: We identified no significant difference in mortality or neurologic complications among three approaches for synchronous surgery for coronary and carotid disease. Therefore it is impossible to conclude that a single principle might be adapted into standard practice. Patient specific risk factors and clinical conditions might be important in determining the surgical tecnnique

It has been reported that sagittal spinal alignment may become abnormal in patients with hip osteoarthritis. There is limited data in the literature on how spinopelvic parameters change after total hip arthroplasty (THA) with femoral shortening in unilateral Crowe type IV dysplastic hips. We aimed to investigate the effects of THA with femoral shortening in unilateral Crowe type IV dysplastic hips on sagittal spinopelvic parametres. Patients who underwent THA for Crowe type IV dysplastic hips at our institution between 2014-2019 were included in the study. Pre- and postsurgical standing anteroposterior and lateral spine X-Ray images of the each patient were uploaded to SURGIMAP© (Nemaris Inc.. USA) (https://www.surgimap.com/). The radiographic data of all patients were reviewed and measurements performed for each patient by two senior spinal surgeons. All of the parameters were retrieved from the SURGIMAP© measurement system. There were 18 patients aged 27-60 (mean, 45.5±7.9) years. The mean follow-up duration was 27.5 ± 8.9 (range, 13–42) months. There was no statistically difference between pre-and postoperative values of Sacral Slope (SS), Pelvic incidence (PI) Lumbar Lordosis (LL), PI-LL mismatch and Thoracic Kyphosis (TK), Global Tilt (GT), T1 Pelvic Angle (TPA), Cervical Lordosis (CL) and T1 slope (T1S). We also found no significant change between pre-and postsurgical values of global alignment and proportion (GAP) scores. The only significant change was in detected pre-and postsurgical values of PT, T1Spi, T9Spi ( p = 0.022, p = 0.035, and p = 0.033 respectively). THA with femoral shortening in unilateral Crowe type-IV dysplastic hips does not effect a change in sagittal spinopelvic parameters. Except for PT, T9SPi, and T1SPi do.
