The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Ni(C16H20N2)2(H2O)2]Cl2·C3H7NO, consists of two NiII atoms, each lying on an inversion center, two Cl anions, two N,N′-dibenzylethane-1,2-diamine ligands, two coordinated water molecules and one N,N-dimethylformamide solvent molecule. Each NiII atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, with the equatorial plane formed by four N atoms and the axial positions occupied by two water molecules. The complex molecules are linked into a chain along [001] by N—H⋯Cl, N—H⋯O and O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The C atoms and H atoms of the solvent molecule are disordered over two sites in a ratio of 0.52 (2):0.48 (2)

    2-(1-Methylethoxy)-5-nitrophenyl N-methylcarbamate

In the title compound, C11H14N2O5, the nitro group is approximately coplanar with the benzene ring, making a dihedral angle of 4.26 (17)°. The dihedral angle between the methylcarbamate group and the benzene ring is 72.47 (6)°. There is a strong intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond between the N and O atoms from adjacent methylcarbamate groups, forming a one-dimensional network along the a axis

Influence of Reducing Agents on Biosafety and Biocompatibility of Gold Nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Extensive biomedical applications of nanoparticles are mainly determined by their safety and compatibility in biological systems. The aim of this study was to compare the biosafety and biocompatibility of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) prepared with HEPES buffer, which is popular for cell culture, and sodium citrate, a frequent reducing agent. From experimental results on the body weight and organ coefficients of acute oral toxicity tests, it could be observed that HEPES-prepared GNPs are biologically safer than citric-prepared GNPs at the same dose of 500 μg/kg. The in vitro cell viability was higher for HEPES-prepared GNPs than citric-prepared GNPs at 5.0- and 10.0-ug/mL concentrations. More reactive oxygen species (ROS) were generated in the cell suspension when supplemented with citric-prepared GNPs than HEPES-prepared GNPs when their concentrations were higher than 20 μg/mL. The results stated that HEPES-prepared GNPs had better biosafety and biocompatibility than citric-prepared GNPs. This study not only revealed the influence of reducing agent on biosafety and biocompatibility of nanomaterials but also provided accumulative evidence for nanomaterials in biomedical applications. Extramedullary versus intramedullary tibial alignment technique in total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to establish whether the use of an extramedullary or intramedullary tibial cutting guide leads to superior mechanical leg axis and implant positioning. A meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials including 350 knees was performed. For the mechanical axis, frontal tibial component angle and tibial slope, there were no significant differences in the mean values or the number of outliers (±3°) between the extramedullary and intramedullary groups. A reduced tourniquet time was associated with the intramedullary guide. No significant difference in the complication rate was noted between the two groups. Neither extramedullary nor intramedullary tibial alignment was more accurate in facilitating the tibial cut. Use of an intramedullary guide results in a shorter tourniquet time and exhibits a similar complication rate as the extramedullary guide

Silver nanoparticles confined in SBA-15 mesoporous silica and the application as a sensor for detecting hydrogen peroxide

Silver nanoparticles within the pore channels of selectively grafted mesoporous silica SBA-15 were synthesized. Silanols on the external surface of as-SBA-15 were first capped by -Si(CH(3))(3) groups. After removal of the template of capped SBA-15 by calcination, silanols on the internal surface of SBA-15 were modified by 3- aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS), and then formaldehyde was grafted by amino groups of APTMS, and further Ag(NH(3))(2)NO(3)SBA-15). High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy ( FTIR), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, and UV-vis spectra confirm that the silver nanoparticles have been confined inside the channels of SBA-15. In addition, the Ag-mSBA-15 modified electrode (Ag-mSBA-15/GC) exhibited an excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)). The proposed H(2)O(2) sensor exhibits a linear range of 48.5 mu M-0.97M with a detection limit of 12 mu M (S/N = 3) and analytical time of 10 seconds per sample. Andrastone A From the Deep-Sea-Derived Fungus Penicillium allii-sativi Acts as an Inducer of Caspase and RXRα-Dependent Apoptosis.

Two new ( 1 , 2 ) and one known ( 3 ) meroterpenoids were isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus Penicillium allii-sativi . The relative structures of new compounds were determined on the basis of an extensive analysis of the NMR and MS data, and the absolute configurations were established by ECD calculations. Andrastone A ( 1 ) is a rare andrastin bearing an unusual cyclopentan-1,3-dione. It shows a selectively antiproliferative effect against HepG2 tumor cells with an IC50 value of 7.8 μM. Mechanism study showed that apoptosis via Caspase and RXRα pathways are responsible for the inhibitory effect
