Judging Trustworthiness, Competence and Dominance from Multimodal Emotional Expressions

This item is only available electronically. It is well-established that facial physical resemblances to emotional expressions can be misattributed as enduring traits (Montepare & Dobish, 2003). However, faces are typically encountered in the presence of other cues such as bodies and voices. With only a few studies having examined the integration of multiple emotional cues in trait judgements, the present study aimed to address this gap by investigating how people make judgements of trustworthiness, competence, and dominance from dynamic audio-visual stimuli. Participants (N = 158) viewed 104 videos of two posers (male and female) posing four emotions (happy, sad, angry or fearful) and rated them on all three traits. The videos showed an isolated voice, face, or body, or voice-face-body pairings that were emotionally congruent (e.g. all three cues expressing happiness) or incongruent (e.g. two cues expressing happiness with the third expressing anger). The results demonstrated that trait intensities were impaired by the presence of the incongruent emotion. When viewing the emotionally incongruent audio-visual stimuli, the perceptions of traits were more likely to be informed by the emotion displayed via two cues. The influence of the incongruent emotion cue was also reported, such that the posers were rated as more trustworthy and competent when displaying a happy face, and more dominant when displaying an angry body or voice. Hence, the strength of the face, voice, and body varied according to the emotion displayed, and the trait being perceived. These findings suggest the importance of using whole-person multisensory stimuli when investigating trait impressions formation.Thesis (B.PsychSc(Hons)) -- University of Adelaide, School of Psychology, 202

Application of Importance - Performance Analysis Model in Evaluation Service Quality of Diving Tour Operator in Nha Trang (Viet Nam)

The purpose of this study is to improve service quality for dive tour operators in Nha Trang (Viet Nam), so the objectiveswere set to understand the divers’ opinion on dimensions of service quality of diving experiences in Nha Trang, and their evaluation of the diving tour operators’ performance. Analysis employed the Importance – Performance analysis (IPA) paradigm based on five dimensions and twenty five attributes of service quality (Parasuraman, 1988). The results are significant to dive tour operators because it showed clearly the managerial implications in order to provide a quality service during the dive tourism experience. In details, it indicated that Tangibles, Responsiveness and Reliability were in the quadrant “Low Priority”, which means low importance and low performance. Moreover, Assurance and Empathy dimensions had high importance and high performance, so they were in the quadrant of “Keep Up The Good Work”

Teacher Professional Development in the Context of Education Reform in Vietnam: Policy and Practice

    Get PDF
Teacher Professional Development (TPD) plays an important role in the Fundamental and Comprehensive Education Reform in Vietnam. The goal of this study is to describe the situation of TPD in the context of education reform in Vietnam: Describe both the reform policies and practice in school. This study emphasized that Vietnam has actively implemented education policies relating to TPD. Three-dimensional evaluation of TPD included: (i) Teaching plans and materials; (ii) Organization of learning activities; and (iii) Students’ activities. The research results showed a positive moderate to the high correlation between teaching plans and materials and organization of learning activities and Students’ activities. The research results showed an inverse correlation between the average teacher age and the Organization of learning activities. The older teachers tended to underestimate the extent of implementation of Organization of learning activities. This finding led to recommendations to provide older teacher groups with professional development activities

Digital Hardware Realization of Forward and Inverse Kinematics for a Five-Axis Articulated Robot Arm

    Get PDF
When robot arm performs a motion control, it needs to calculate a complicated algorithm of forward and inverse kinematics which consumes much CPU time and certainty slows down the motion speed of robot arm. Therefore, to solve this issue, the development of a hardware realization of forward and inverse kinematics for an articulated robot arm is investigated. In this paper, the formulation of the forward and inverse kinematics for a five-axis articulated robot arm is derived firstly. Then, the computations algorithm and its hardware implementation are described. Further, very high speed integrated circuits hardware description language (VHDL) is applied to describe the overall hardware behavior of forward and inverse kinematics. Additionally, finite state machine (FSM) is applied for reducing the hardware resource usage. Finally, for verifying the correctness of forward and inverse kinematics for the five-axis articulated robot arm, a cosimulation work is constructed by ModelSim and Simulink. The hardware of the forward and inverse kinematics is run by ModelSim and a test bench which generates stimulus to ModelSim and displays the output response is taken in Simulink. Under this design, the forward and inverse kinematics algorithms can be completed within one microsecond

Impact of Service Quality Performance on Customer Satisfaction: A Case Study of Vietnam’s Five Star Hotel

    Get PDF
To exist in highly competitive market, companies need to pay more attention in improving quality of products and services. It is necessary to maintain customers’ loyalty for sustainable future development. This research focuses on investigating the impact of service quality performance on customer satisfaction in a sample of Vietnam’s five star hotels, with a case study of Hotel X, where service quality is considered as the key to success. This study chose the SERVPERF model as a conceptual framework. Analysis of results shows that components RES-EM, ASSURANCE and RELIABLITY explain customer evaluation of perceived service quality in Hotel X. These components play important roles in service quality measurement and thus it is suggested that five star hotels generally and Hotel X in particular needs to have specific strategies to enhance these components as well as customer satisfaction
