    Investigation into Airborne Dust ina Wool Textile Mill

    Airborne dust samples were gathered from the vicinity of various commonly performed processes in the wool-preparation industry. Samples of airborne wool dust were collected on membrane filters during the processing of wool lots. The chemical composition of the inorganic particles present in the total inspirable and respirable dust fractions was determined with the use of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The widely differing morphologies of the particles collected raise questions about the validity of trying to correlate minor respiratory symptoms with dust concentrations, as some particle types will penetrate the respiratory system more easily than others. The results are discussed with respect to the sampling methodology used

Using this model, the calculated transient leather temperature agrees well with experimental values. Variations in temperature and moisture content distribution are solved using the finite-difference method. The effects of operation parameters, such as temperature and humidity in the dryer, initial moisture content of the leather, and heat and mass transfer coefficients are examined using the model

In order to assess the advantages of this drying process, extensive trials have been carried out. The objective of this investigation was to study the drying rate of infrared drying. This was achieved with the use of scanning pyrometer and image analysis.

    A New Image Analysis Based Method for Measuring Electrospun Nanofiber Diameter

    In this paper, a new image analysis based method for electrospun nanofiber diameter measurement has been presented. The method was tested by a simulated image with known characteristics and a real web. Mean (M) and standard deviation (STD) of fiber diameter obtained using this method for the simulated image were 15.02 and 4.80 pixels respectively, compared to the true values of 15.35 and 4.47 pixels. For the real web, applying the method resulted in M and STD of 324 and 50.4 nm which are extremely close to the values of 319 and 42 nm obtained using manual method. The results show that this approach is successful in making fast, accurate automated measurements of electrospun fiber diameters

    Non-fluorinated sol-gel processing of hydrophobic coating on cotton fabric

    376-384In this study, the importance of wash durability tests for providing efficient hydrophobic surfaces through nonfluorinated sol-gel processes has been investigated. Various concentrations of methyltriethoxysilane (MTEOS) and trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) have been used to deposit SiO2 nanoparticles on a cotton fabric in a two-step sol-gel process. The effects of catalyst type on the hydrophobic properties of fabric are investigated by using ammonia or hydrochloric acid in the sol-gel procedure. Surface characteristics, such as morphology and wettability are evaluated by image processing techniques and contact angle measurements. Air permeability, mechanical strength and wash durability tests are also performed to investigate the physical/mechanical properties of the samples. The results show that SiO2 nanoparticles are well dispersed on cotton fabrics with a contact angle of 149o. It is revealed that the fabric coated with 1 mL of MTEOS and ammonia catalyst exhibits the highest breathability and strength. Moreover, the first stage of the sol-gel technique is sufficient to provide super hydrophobicity. However, the results of the durability test indicate that sol-gel technique does not provide suitable wash durability that should be considered in future investigations

    Observational Constraints on the Modified Gravity Model (MOG) Proposed by Moffat: Using the Magellanic System

    A simple model for the dynamics of the Magellanic Stream (MS), in the framework of modified gravity models is investigated. We assume that the galaxy is made up of baryonic matter out of context of dark matter scenario. The model we used here is named Modified Gravity (MOG) proposed by Moffat (2005). In order to examine the compatibility of the overall properties of the MS under the MOG theory, the observational radial velocity profile of the MS is compared with the numerical results using the χ2\chi^2 fit method. In order to obtain the best model parameters, a maximum likelihood analysis is performed. We also compare the results of this model with the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) halo model and the other alternative gravity model that proposed by Bekenstein (2004), so called TeVeS. We show that by selecting the appropriate values for the free parameters, the MOG theory seems to be plausible to explain the dynamics of the MS as well as the CDM and the TeVeS models.Comment: 14 pages, 3 Figures, accepted in Int.     A systematic review of radiation-induced testicular toxicities following radiotherapy for prostate cancer

    Background: Prostate cancer is the second most common malignancy in men in the world, and radiotherapy is used as a standard treatment modality for this cancer. Although this treatment modality effectively kills prostate cancerous cells, it unavoidably irradiates the organs/tissues that are away from the treatment site. In this regard, radiation-induced testicular toxicities following prostate radiotherapy can affect sexual function, reproduction, and quality of life in cancer survivors. This review summarizes the available data on testicular exposure to radiation during prostate radiotherapy and the consequences on testicular function. Methods: To illuminate the radiation-induced testicular toxicities following prostate radiotherapy, a systematic search was conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guideline in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and clinical trials electronic databases up to September 2018. According to a set of prespecified inclusion and exclusion criteria, 31 eligible articles providing data on testicular function following radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer were included in the study. Results: According to the different radiotherapeutic techniques used for prostate cancer treatment, the total tumor dose and scattered testicular dose values were ranging from 36.25 to 78.00 Gy and 0.06 to 6.48 Gy, respectively. Luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels after prostate radiotherapy were signi�cantly higher in comparison with the pretreatment levels. Around 60 of the studies showed that testosterone levels after prostate radiotherapy were signi�cantly lower than the pretreatment levels. Furthermore, erectile dysfunction (ED), as an adverse side effect resulting from prostate radiotherapy, was reported and this complication is signi�cantly correlated with lower satisfaction with sexual life. Testicular atrophy following prostate radiotherapy has also been observed and its frequency in patients with prior prostate radiotherapy is 2.5 times more than that in the patients without prior radiotherapy. Conclusion: The data revealed that the scattered dose to testicular tissues during prostate radiotherapy can lead to testicular atrophy, variation of the male sex hormones, and quality of sexual life. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

    Detection of pseudocyst forms of trichomonas muris in rodents from iran

    Background: Trichomonas muris is one of the most common protozoa diagnosed in rodents. The trichomonads are generally described as presenting only trophozoite form while pseudocyst is another morphological form of trichomonads identified among gastrointestinal and genitourinary trichomonads. We identified and described different shapes of T. muris pseudocysts and trophozoite in stool samples were collected from rodents including Merinos persicus, Mus musculus and Cricetulus migratorius. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, stool samples from 204 trapped rodents were collected from Meshkin Shahr during Mar to Dec 2014. Samples were preserved in formalin 10 and PVA solution and transferred to Department of Medical Protozoology and Mycology, School of Public Health, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Formalin-ether concentration method was used for the samples. The slides were stained with trichrome staining method and observed under light microscope. Results: The trophozoites were classified as T. muris based on size (18 to 24 µm), presence of three anterior flagella, recurrent flagellum, undulating membrane, and axostyle in direct examination and stained slides with trichrome staining method. Fifty-five out of 204 (27) rodents were infected with T. muris in which 51(25) samples pseudocysts form were observed. The spherical bodies of pseudocyst with almost 8 µm size, contained internalized flagella, an undulating membrane with recurrent flagellum, axostyle, and costa were seen. The pseudocysts were more prevalent than trophozoite form and pseudocysts were found with different shapes in this study. Conclusion: T. muris pseudocysts were found in stool samples of caught rodents for the first time in northwestern Iran. © 2018, Iranian Journal of Public Health. All rights reserved
